Does anyone have good advice on how to get rid of hornets around the garden? I discovered (painfully) a nest of bald faced hornets in a bush right next to my garden gate. They attacked me when I was pruning, stinging me repeatedly. To make matters worse, there is also a ground hornet nest nearby that is active.I garden organically--but frankly, the poisons don't work all that well (have used them in the past). I set out multiple bait traps containing apple juice, boric acid, apple cider vinegar (to repel good bees). It seems to be helping--the hornets take it back to their nest and feed it to the queen and larvae. But it is a slow process. Has anyone tried other techniques to get rid of them? They have caused me to avoid going into one whole section of my yard.
Just spray em with raid.
>>2880554Foaming wasp & hornet spray at night when theyre all at the nest.If you have trouble with ground wasps just pour some gas in the hole and put a brick over it
>>2880554mate just wait like litterally 2 week.hornets colonies self terminate in fall so they never an issue. if you see Cicada-killers leavethem alone the dont swarm and are very peacefull and benefitial. Yellowjackets die too. and Nest are never recycled so if you leave them you wont have them again untill the colony is composted. i actally love hornets and get them every few years under the roof or the field /hedge nearby. they are very chill and absolutly murder all pest and even wasps in the yard. i have come video of them eating stuff from bugs to meat from dead birds
>>2880554I work on an organic farmI use a pump sprayer filled with a solution of water with a bit of dish soap in it.Works great, the surfactant in the soap breaks the surface tension of the water and allows it to coat the bodies of the insects, effectively drowning them in short order.Don't put too much soap or it will be too thick, you want it watery.Wait until they are in their nest when it is night or otherwise cold out with no sun directly on the nest.I put on a bee suit, grab a shovel, and start soaking the entrance to kill the guards, then start digging and spraying until I find the comb.At this point I will usually have a bucket of soapy water on hand to dump on the nest, while breaking up the nest with the shovel. The soapy water sprayer also works great on ones that build nests above ground, the nests disintegrate under the stream of water and the bugs get soaked, dropping to the ground and dying.Soapy water trick works for every kind of insect I have tried it on.
