An extremely basic question, but an important one. There are many ways to go /out/ - how do YOU do it? Do you drive to your nearest state park/reserve and walk the trails with others? Do you prefer to be alone, instead venturing into your backyard or local forest to hike and or camp? Do you venture to the local park and trudge through through the bush since walking a pre-created "trail" does not count as true /out/doorsing? Sitting on 4chan and posting on /out/ does not, unfortunately, qualify with the topic of this thread. Unless of course you are doing it outside. That counts I guess.
>>2881115I live on about 7 acres of forest, we're bordered on 2 sides by BLM land (not sure of the exact square mileage). going /out/ is walking out the back door. There's no road access to the BLM land so in the 7 years we've lived here i've never once seen another person. It's just me and my dog for hours. We've widened a bunch of the meandering deer trails for hiking, so there's a bit of variation in routes we can take. The enjoyment from being /out/ is inversely proportional to the amount of people you encounter imo, I definitely appreciate the solitude and will be extremely sad when the neighboring forest is inevitably converted into suburban storage for brown immigrants.
I drive 4-8 hours usually and take overnight trips. I don't hike very far, and I don't camp, I stay in rental cabins, but the sense of adventure and going to a new place makes it fun - I try going in a different direction every time.
>>2881115I go outside the front door and then I become /out/ mode
>>2881115I live in a state with a ton of public land. I just drive a few miles to NF forest trailhead. Im also rich and have a cabin on 20 acres surrounded by NF on 2 sides...so theres that.
>>2881115Around me I am relegated to forest preserves. Nothing very wild or big. But its all ive got. Ill go there myself and walk the trails for a couple hours. If i want anything good ill have to drive multiple hours and then is just like the forest preserve by me, but bigger. When I really wanna go out, I head out west to Colorado or further. Ill usually drive out there myself and stay there a week. In a car campsite, driving from camp to trailheads. I flew out last time because i didn't feel like driving. I stayed in hotels and drove to trails. Obviously nothing that out there, but thats how it is if you're in a hotel. Going out solo is the way I like doing it, backpacking and setting up a campsite in the middle of the woods doesn't appeal to me, I dont wanna try that hard.
>>2881115I swear I must be completely autistic, I cannot chose any place to go. I just wanna go to some nice place, walk for an hour or two and then bivouac, but I can't just pick a place a commit to it.
>>2881149just look on alltrails for shit thats nearby and looks goodthen u go and park and then walkif youre extra retarded u can even use the map thats provided in the appyou have to just make yourself do something if youre being a lame ass pussy and not going outsidepick something that sucks. it doesnt matter really, only that you do in fact pick something instead of just pretend-planning
i luckily live on about 6 acres of woodlands that I share with 4 other properties that never use it so I can just walk out to my backyard and have awesome woods and further in a sizeable pond, beyond that I usually drive anywhere between 20 minutes to 3 hours for various woods, waterfalls, rivers, lakes, I used to live near more arid areas so I had a bigger variety then but now its pretty much just appalachia (used to be an oregonian)
I've got a free bus pass that lets me go anywhere in Scotland. I go wherever I feel and just wander about often for a week or more. We have right to roam and wild camping so I'll stay out as long as I feel comfy.
