Looking for some hiking and/or work pants, any recommendations? Should have pockets on the side, be durable, allow freedom of movement. Been looking at the the fjallraven vidda pros. any experience with them? any other recs?

Hiking or working? Different needs, different pants.
What climate, dumbass? The pants I wear in November are not the same pants I wear on July.
>>
>>2882568
dont care much about summer, spring, autumn are more important.

> Hiking or working?

i am open to suggestions for both
>>
>>2882570
Again, what is the climate, jackass?
"Autumn" in Alaska and Georgia are two completely different worlds.
>>
>>2882574
oh sorry, my bad. winter should be around 0 degrees celsius, summer is around 27 degrees

I use these things from decathlon. They are pretty nice. I sometimes see other workers wearing them when i go to the café nearby.

helicon tex does have some good stuff and a wide selection of style from heavy duty to light. many camo options too

check out your local hardware store too if you want durable. work clothes sometimes have a few quality pieces. Socks / gloves are usally always great for the price. Tvek suits are used for DIY gear too.

>>2882579
second vote for decathlon, Fishing hunting stuff SOLOGNAC

Helikon Tex is tacticool larp shit for bro vets who can't let it go

I like to be stealthy in the woods. Synthetic pants are too loud...I prefer a canvas twill or cotton/spandex blend from Kuhl.

goddamn, they couldnt come up with more cringe names for their pants, could they? what is the target audience here?
>>

>reeeing about the name

Vidda pros are dogshit. They changed the fit to fashion over function. I also got a hole in mine in no time.
Just get dickies relaxed cargo ($20-30 on sale) or big bill cargo pants ($60 and careful of tarrifs with trade war) from tractor supply co (cheapest place). Former is cheaper but latter is more durable and made in Canada from us fabric. Both are 65/35 polycotton, same material composition as vida pros except vida pros is a thinner canvas as opposed to twill.
My only con with either is not cinches are the bottom to keep out ticks but it wouldnt be hard to get some elastic cord and thread it through.
The only other durable pant (besides wool) id recommend is surplus nyco bdus. They have twill versions and ripstop. The latter is lighter weight and dries better.
Nylon is more durable than polyester BTW but polyester dries much faster. Nylon runs cooler and polyester runs warmer. Polyester is also more flammable but ive never had sparks take out my dickies. Did have it affect a fjallraven shirt though.
I've tried most the options and blown plenty of holes in the crotches due to bad design.
Fjallraven is a fashion company now that overcharges. I looked past that and bought some and couldnt believe the fit and lack of durability.
G1000 is just polycotton. Its not a miracle technology. Also dont buy into the wax bullshit. It will just make the pants not breathe and its never 100% waterproof. If anything just wax knees and seat.
If you want waterproof buy rain gear pro or louisiana professional wear outer pants. Those are polyurethane coated and will give at least a good 5 to 10 years of waterproof. 0 breathability but its what loggers and sailors use. I prefer breathable pants though and waterproof top unless im in heavy brush or sideways heavy rain.

Didn't realize thread was filled with euro fags.
Dont have a lot of experience here but bdu is the perfect pant design. If you dont want to tear the crotch you want a higher waisted pant with a reinforced seat.
People keep adding bullshit to their low waisted pants to 'fix' the design and it never works. Diamond crotch, elastic gussets whatever. Its all shit. Low waisted increases tension on the seams whereas high waisted relaxes the stress points.
Austria sells quite a bit of surplus pants and they seem pretty nice. They are only 50/50 polycotton so wont dry as fast. Theyre also green so wont look too much like the stolen valor chic.
The Swedish wool surplus Pants are gold. Idk if they still sell them or not. The old west German ones are good too. I didnt like the fit of the Finnish either but the material was good.
I had a friend that had some made in Italy that were good workwear similar to dickies and big bill but forgot name.
Most the replica manufacturers are dogshit. I know helikon makes replica m65 us bdus. The fabric is good on those but idk about stitching. Most of helikon is just cheaper fjallraven in terms of cost and build quality tho
Also if youre looking for quality 100% waterproof go for 420 denier polyurethane coated nylon. That's what the Louisiana and rain gear pro are made of. Theres other people making the exact same fabric/coating. Pu will last longer than goretex since less points of failure.

Only go duck cotton if in a completely dry environment.

I'm liking what you have to say here. I'm looking for pants that are durable and waterproof for cold-weather search and rescue in Mesa County, CO. We have desert and high mountain country on the Mesa.
>>
>>2882565
Fjalraven is a meemee 2bh, they'll shred the first time you cross desert peach on your way up to the sky island
>>
>>2882736
Swede here, and I hate people's obsession over Fjällräven. It's average at best. Overpriced, non-durable. They live on popularity through marketing, and they haven't kept up with anything for the last 20 years. Actually, a lot of outdoor stuff made in Sweden is trash; 90% of everything I buy is from America despite the insane tariffs and 25% VAT.

I've been using a Fjallraven backpack for 4-5 years and it's served me well. Seems pretty durable. Still as good as new minus a few scratches and scuff marks. I don't baby it at all.
>>
>>2883952
I have a 4€ Quechua backpack I've used for like a decade. That means nothing
>>

I work cold weather inland SAR in Alaska. You should look into backcountry hunting pants instead of hiking pants, like KUIU or Stone Glacier. That's what we all wear. I have found that backcountry hunting clothing is made with outdoor performance and durability as the main consideration, whereas hiking/outdoor gear cares about fashion and appearance as much as performance/durability

What more could you ask for out of a pack other than being comfortable and lasting a long time? Is it supposed to give me blowjobs?
