Looking for a good minocular to take camping and vacations. I want one instead of binoculars because they are easier for the kids to use and easier to carry around. Any standard recommendations and/or price range i should look in/avoid?
Nocs makes some good ones. $80-180. Solid design, holds up well in wet conditions and has a great warranty. several color options, and attachments for taking pictures or to convert them into microscopes.
>>2882944I got a standard 8x32 monocular for the packability and convenience factor.Ultimately, despite wanting to like it, I have to admit that the FOV is a limiting factor that just makes it mediocre most of the time. The sweet spot for things that are too small for the naked eye, but not too far for the monocular to make a difference is rather narrow. So most of the time, you're seeing something slightly bigger but shaky and in a small window.Feels like if you really wanna get a good look at things, you might as well commit to full sized binos and a harness to hike around with them. Or leave mono to a spotting scope with actual range if you're going to be looking at further distances.
>>2882977kids always have problem focusing and holding binoculars and big ass ones just make it even worse
>>2882964yeah these look perfect. just after a glance though it seems like nocs business model is to make money off of accessories because fuck they are expensive. 40$ for a fucking tiny carry bag and 40$ for a bit a plastic phone attachment for the monoculars lol
>>2882964Nocs is the only acceptable answer. I work in sporting goods; they're great. I like the Zoom Tube best.
>>2882983eh I would view the accessories as options down the road, if your kids like them, and the outdoors, now you have birthday and christmas options later on. part of the cost is because of the warranty, they stand behind their products.
>>2882997im not trying to come down on nocs, they are a company and they have to make money but its just funny to see charging so much for items that would normally literally all come with the main product. they are selling a lanyard with you can basically pic up off the ground for free for 25-30$. what sort of warranty applies to a nylon bag or paracord lanyard? lol
>>2883016Then stop bitching and buy some SIG Zulu HDX Pros. They have an unlimited transferable warranty. Or you could buy Swaros. One of these days, I'm going to buy some SIGs.
>>2883018i already ordered some nocs, just none of the dumd accessories. i can supply my own string and plastic bag without spending more than the nocs themselves cost
Get real binos instead of a glorified toy
>>2883019Good. None of us told you to buy accessories. I was just playing with NOCS today. I think they were some 10x32 binoculars. They were pretty nice for the money.
>>2882944I have this Vortex that's decent. It's compact and light which is good for hiking, but detailed viewing is only good for about 100 yards or so.Avoid any cheap brands on amazon like Barska.
>>2882977Skill issue. Brace your elbows or use a string pod.
