Every time I go to the gun shop, it’s like this dude is playing a mini game with me to see how dumb he can make me look but asking hyper specific questions about preference for a part or some inner mechanism. Always just ask the dude if I can shoulder it and then he gives me a weird look.
>>2883363Just go to a different store. Assuming you live in the middle of nowhere and are just going to some nearby shit shop, just go to the town with the Walmart you shop at and find a gunstore(s) or an outdoor store. You are most definitely within driving distance of a big chain, like Scheels, Bass Pro, Cabela's, etc. At the latter two, they're depressed, uninterested wagies. At Scheels, they'll suck your dick for commission.
>>2883363savage axis II in .308win. great budget rifle and great cheap round. please dont get a 6.5 or one of those meme guns that cost alot to shoot. the chances of you needing to take an ameican sniper 700 yard shot are slim.
.308 was the obvious choice when LC M80 was 45cpr. I would probably make the same choice again. But I live innawest and hunt innamountains. If I still lived back east it would be a .357 lever action.

>>2883363Inifinite info on youtube. Generally you pick the right caliber then rifle depending on the need. Is the are wide open - more likely to shoot longer distances? Is the area wooded - more likely close? Many cartridges can be used for both but some are better than others. You want to kill the deer with a good shot and 'big enough' bullet to put it down quickly and not just run off.Can you shoulder it? Almost any rifle shotgun yes. Length of pull if from your firing hand to the end of the butt stock in your shoulder. Its should feel comfortable, not too long or short. If you do not have shooting experience its best to get some before hunting. You want to know who to safely load/unload, carry and shoot. You will want to do target shooting first to be sure you understand the iron sights, or optic if you have one. If optic you want to zero it/sight it in. As for the inner mechanism he might be asking if you want/prefer a pump action, lever action, bolt action or semi-auto. For each caliber there are different bullets (soft point, hollow point, boat tail and on and on). You do not really need to worry about too much. I suggest you focus on the mid range caliber 308 Winchester and decide if you want a bolt or semiauto. Semis are good for a fast followup shot if you miss. As beginner you will not shoot fast with a lever or bolt action without practice. You can just buy a box of Hornady 308 "whitetail" 165 grain soft points - its even got soft tail in the name so you know what game its for. Plenty for up close or 200-400 yards (you should get a scope and learn how to use that if you are going out past 100 yards as beginner.Make sure to take a hunting safety class.
>>2883363Depends on the state, local hunting laws, local firearms laws, local terrain, in other words go out first and hike as that will tell you a lot. However independent of these factors the AR is the current standard and pinnacle as far as ease of use, modularity, and customizability goes- and you can get one in .300blk, shoot subsonic hunting rounds through a can, and not lose your hearing by age 35. Also cheaper to train with than .308 or .30-30, and lighter than many traditional platforms of eitherMany hunters do not wear hearing protection but no deer is worth the hearing aids and medical bills.
