Even if I turn off all the HDR & post processing options in the menu, it still edits the photos. They get blurry and look like shit, and the worst part is when my phone's a little slow I can SEE it happening - for 1/2 second the photo is perfect and then it gets filtered and smoothed to death.

The cameras on Galaxy phones always get hyped to hell and back before release and in reviews but they seem to fall a bit short when you actually try taking pictures yourself. I've also got an S23U as well as an X90 Pro+ and I was surprised how hard the chink phone shitted on the Galaxy in RAW. Way better dynamic range, finer noise pattern, better colors and details were somehow sharper even though effective resolution is 12MP for both. Even RAWs out of my Pixel 6 Pro looked way better than what my Galaxy could produce. 200MP is a gimmick and I hate that chink OEMs are moving towards this hardware for their main cameras.

The only faggots saying that are using shitty 1/2.8" phones from 2012, or are niggers that need to affirm their $6000 in camera gear isn't made obsolete in certain cases by a $400 phone.
Phone cameras have their place.
I'd still prefer a digishit with an actual optical zoom unless I was already content with 24-28mm focal lengths, but lots of things are done fine by a phone camera.
>>
>>4501304
They all look really smeary and plastic

Its the same aesthetic as “wildlife photographers” who always shoot at iso 12800, use AI NR+Sharpening to fix it, and then say full frame and micro four thirds look the same

Phone cameras are really only good for closeups in dimly lit areas because then the AI HDR actually does something uniquely useful in combination with the deep focus of a wide angle f32 equivalent lens. Granted, the real resolution of a 200mp phone is more like 8mp because of quad bayer alternating readout hdr shit. That should be a familiar general concept however. Mp is only a resolution figure by proxy when talking foveon or high end film scans - the real resolution of a 24mp bayer camera is closer to 16mp

/p/ thinks smartphones still have tiny 1/2.5"-1/3" sensors. At this point, smartphones rival p&s cameras and come pretty close to DSLRs in some areas if we're talking just global properties.

Nowadays you don't even need portrait mode on some phones when using the telephoto because the hardware has gotten to a point where it's capable of authentic bokeh without any software. Sensors have gotten so big across the board that shooting in RAW isn't a total waste of time. Phone displays and ISPs have gotten so good that you can take photos in real HDR and not HDR compressed down to SDR that you can then view on your phone in real HDR because 99% of phones come with 1000 nit+ OLEDs. You can then upload said photo almost anywhere and shit just werks on any compatible display. Obviously all these photos kind of fall apart when you zoom in, even in RAW, but that completely misses the point of taking pictures on a phone.
>>
>>4502462
>Obviously all these photos kind of fall apart when you zoom in
Actually you ironically get much better zoom on a phone because for a FF camera to keep its size down it will have to have a small wide angle prime so theyre with not zooming at all lol
>>
>>4502464
By zoom I mean cropping in. Unfortunately these high resolution sensors are a meme because they technically aren't even designed to output at full resolution due to binning being done at a hardware level. Demosaicing algorithms are a thing but they vary wildly on an OEM basis, so one phone might take really good 50MP pictures but another might take really shit 50MP pictures that look like a simple upscale, which is a pretty significant amount of them.

Samsung originally had 108MP sensors that would bin down to 27MP and details held up pretty well even after cropping in but OEMs dropped them in favor of bigger, lower resolution sensors that bin down to 12MP. Some newer phones support 24MP/25MP output with 48MP/50MP sensors, but every time I look at samples they don't look like real 24MP/25MP at all so I suspect there's some amount of software trickery going on to get that number.
>>
>>4502464
Todays phone photos look exactly like AI generated images. They are defacto worthless, and will never be photos with certainty. This is because they use AI to basically remake the photo to fool people like you.

Imagine a film camera that contains tiny airbrushing robots meant to make 800 iso 35mm look like 50 speed 6x7 as long as you don’t pay attention or look too closely. Your snapshit collection would just look like airbrushed photos and be written off as worthless for being possibly fake in every way. Imagine if this happened in the 50s or something.
Never ever ever would anything people shot on such a device even be considered as proof something happened. It would all look airbrushed. Full control of truth would be ceded to the state and the media mafia. A lot of civil rights and government accountability shit never would have happened and the vietnam war would be an un-debunkable american victory hard fought with nobility and honor, and minimal civilian casualties.

The iPhone 5 somehow had a better camera than the iPhone 16. Because its photos actually looked like photos.
>>
>>4502539
>meant to make 800 iso 35mm look like 50 speed 6x7 as long as you don’t pay attention or look too closely
Normies don't look too closely, anon. They're sharing photos on social media and sending them in messaging apps where the image gets compressed to shit anyway, and even if they did look closely they wouldn't know it looks bad because they don't have an actual camera to compare it to.

>Samsung originally had 108MP sensors that would bin down to 27MP and details held up pretty well
Fucking no. Not at all. You don't understand this shit anon.
48MP = 12MP
108MP = 12MP

You can't "bin" 108MP to 27MP. These 108MP sensors are simply extra photosites behind a much lower res filter. The filter determines the resolution.

A 24MP full frame bayer camera only has 6000 red, 12000 green, and 6000 blue samples. A 24MP sensor can't capture signal with 24MP detail. In theory you can maybe hope for 1/4 of the advertised resolution. (nyquist, on both axis) but in reality 4x res isn't enough in all cases. This is where aliasing and moire come from.

Smartphones with meme sensors are their 100% full resolution but are fundamentally gimped because their color filter is at a much lower resolution. Instead of red green and blue photosites, you have CHUNKS of red green and blue at either 4x (48MP) or 9x (108MP) resulting in an effectively binned equivalent to 12MP bayer. This 12MP bayer is already far from an ideal. These phones are binning to accomplish what is unacceptable resolution that is miles behind what film was capable of.

Honest 16MP phone cameras are alright, limited by their lens with vignetting and corner sharpness loss but are genuinely okay hardware.
Anything 48MP or 108MP is a red flag reliant on binning bullshit to deliver AI sloppified falsifified fake photos. If the hardware and firmware is configured to actually properly bin the 3x3 chunks into binned 1x1 binned bayer, then that's probably a good 12MP phone sensor but they all try to falsify data and deliver garbage at inflated resolutions that are 100% not possible or backed by anything but slop filtering.

A 108MP phone sensor (in theory alone assuming a PERFECT lens) can only deliver maybe a good 6MP or 3MP depending on subject. A genuinely good 3MP is good for most things.

Binning is good, phone scam sensors are not.
>>
>>4503249
Right looks more like a real photo but isn't good. Left is an eyesore.
I don't buy apple products because Steve Jobs is a kike, but last I heard the Halide app offered real RAW without the post-processing and gave you raw sensor readout (with all the noise) and if your app does the same that's fine. If it is doing anything to "make it look like a real camera" however, then it is a scam. Just fuck off and give the RAW. If your app can't do that, it's trash. Apple wants to force post-processing with their fake pro-raw bullshit but some older iPhones could output real genuine noisy RAWs and those were fit for proper photography.
>>

>You can't "bin" 108MP to 27MP.
You can if you're binning pixels 2x2, which was how the original 108MP sensors did it. Nowadays, yes, they all just bin down to 12MP.

You only bin pixels in a 2x2 chunk if it's quad bayer, effectively giving you binned quarter resolution but still bayer.

What Samshit ever had a quad bayer 108MP?
All the ones I know about are the nonacell 3x3 bayer shit.

Binning isn't some magic cure-all or benefit in general. It's more or less copium. Sony used it in a full frame camera for 48MP binned to 12MP, but it turned out to be mostly worthless. The real use case for that camera was having a natively low res sensor so it could just output less-processed video and a real 12MP sensor probably would have performed better, but binning is nice for video and eliminating hot pixels. Hot pixels aside binning is said to reduce noise but what they omit from advertising is the photosites binned are all much smaller and are noisier than larger sites so there's really no benefit in dynamic range or noise despite what advertisers say.

Phones have a really bad time with hot pixels in particular so binning is decent but all the AI ensloppification they try to force during the process is atrocious.
