That's all fine really, everything being black and white keeps it consistent. You'll find things you enjoy taking photos of more than others and it'll all fall into place. Gave you a follow since you have some cool pics.

Social media is literally just client work for a soulless algorithm now. It's only worth it for a small network, ie: real friends only, but almost nobody does that anymore. The only communal activities anyone is interested in anymore are video games, sports, and drinking and no one has any shared interests beyond that. Our culture was systematically killed.

In fact, I grew up being repeatedly told that because I was white, I had no culture, despite being able to clearly see all the older white people obviously had a culture but my entire generation was told, again and again, you have no culture. College was worse. I was told we were the worst thing to ever happen to the planet and had to say sorry or we were even eviler.
>>

It isn't.
All it did was make me unhappy because I was watching photos I had put lots of effort into making be completely ignored. I don't bother showing my pictures to anyone aside my Girlfriend anymore.
Don't get me wrong, my photos are nothing super special, but they're usually technically competent and of something at least moderately interesting, that would spark a conversation at least.
All it did was make me feel like nobody really gave a shit about me. So I don't bother with it anymore. I'm just going to print photos to put around my home now, that make me personally happy.
Thanks for reading my blog.

Photography as a community was purposefully injured by zuckerberg (zuckerberg (zuckerberg)). He just decided short form video was more addictive, trained AI better, and generated more profits by harvesting more data from the users he considers cattle/dumb fucks and that was it. Reels to the top of the algorithm. Photos to the bottom. Now platforms are slowly phasing out “sort by most recent” to ensure nothing is seen if they haven’t determined it to be worth seeing.

They control the community so there can never be dissent and to keep consoomers consooming

And everyone under 30 fell for it, and defended falling for it.
Dumb fucks.

Based, who'd you go with for getting a domain? I've been considering doing the same
>>
>>4497581
This domain and hosting is through ifastnet. Its fairly well priced for what you get and I do recommend. That being said, im only with them becuase they're partnered with the free hosting i used for testing. If your needs are basic, you'd be better off buying a domain from squarespace/google, and using neocities for hosting
>>
>>4497583
Thanks, I'll check them out. I thought neocities did everything like domains too so I'll have to look deeper.
>>
>>4497583
Isn't Neocities really restricted on how much you can upload (e.g. big problem for photo files)?

I've never really done much in the way of making websites etc so not sure if I am missing something there but that was the reason I gave up on making a neocities site for my photos.

Yeah that shit is obnoxious, apparently a lot of people are complaining about it. We're both lucky that giant billboard in the city hall station wasn't active in our photos, it's going to look like shit in there when it is active.

There's another station I haven't been to yet which apparently has a really cool glass elevator tube, I think that'd make for a cool pic.

Sure, it's the Anzac station. You can find a lone glass tube at the edge of the park and it's one of the elevators, though that's not the main way in obviously but is an extra just behind the main entry area. It's pretty neat that they went with a glass tube instead of just some standard box for it.

I heard it is good custom to actually follow back everyone who follows you.

I actually wanted to post mine but it is very barebone, made in summer. I was not using IG for very long time, only uploading to my own private site (without restrictions on size and such) but I noticed that most people don't go outside social media and people who received my photos (I was doing them mostly at anime cons, concerts, events, etc) while really liked them, often asked for IG or similar profile and strongly suggested to make one. IG seems to be in demand as people actually started posting my photos once I made this profile. Problem is, I don't really know what I'm supposed to do with it. I cannot upload sample pics of all galleries uploaded so far on private site since IG got angry for posting few "carousels" in short time and demanded extra verification - and I don't really want them to get to the point where they will demand ID, so far stopped at photo and phone number. I also don't use application on phone, just browser on PC and I cannot add website address that way, except of as text in description. I don't know, for example, if I should upload mine few selected photos after anime con staff (where I was photographing as "officially approved media") uploaded some of the ones I sent them or not. Or to upload selected ones I made during conference in Japan and so on. Overall I'm not professional photographer, I have my own, rather unrelated job, so I only do actual photos when I have chance to (I still wish I could do actual photo session with some cosplayer at least once in my life but I might be too old for that already). Any suggestions?

Sorry for little blogposting.

Okay, sorry. Account is https://www.instagram.com/sabi.sif.photostuff

Overall, Im purely amateur photographer and shoot wahtever I find interesting at the moment but mostly enjoy cons and similar events. I have no idea what Im supposed to do with IG account so it kinda sits in same place it was when I made it during summer. I was encouraged to do so by people at cons where I did photos - performers, cosplayers, etc - so I did. But besides that few posts, Im not sure about what to do next. Like, if a con official page upload some of my photos, should I upload some on my own from same category? Overall, I was uploading to private site for very long time so thats where my galleries in general are.

Thanks for any advice.
>>
>>4499974
Gave you a follow my man.

>I have no idea what Im supposed to do with IG account so it kinda sits in same place it was when I made it during summer.
You can do whatever you want really. I tend to go for a 3 in a row theme and change it up with each set of 3, so you could have your cosplaying as sets of 3 or 6 and then a whole new theme for another 3 or 6 (and when I say theme I mean casual stuff, architectural, street, etc). You can also create a second page where it's all non-cosplay stuff and keep the other as just cosplay, assuming that's what your bread and butter is.

>Like, if a con official page upload some of my photos, should I upload some on my own from same category?
Ideally you'd be uploading them yourself and tagging the con or vice versa. Try and get some more 1 on 1 photos with cosplayers too and tag them in the photos, it'll spread you around a little bit.
>>
>>4499997
Man idk what to post these days but I like your idea of post 3 sets of the same subject in a row. Anyways Its like what some of you guys said about social media these days. IG has been a fucking mess in recent years that now I feel less motivated to post. Should I move to flickr or anything that isnt similar to IG copying ShitTok? I really miss when IGs main focus was just photography. My account isnt great. Its far from perfect its a mess these days I just post whenever but I used to be very consistent a decade ago when everything was more organized.

>IG has been a fucking mess in recent years that now I feel less motivated to post. Should I move to flickr or anything that isnt similar to IG copying ShitTok?
I'm considering Flickr a little but it's less social and is more like a gallery I guess. I hear one way o getting reach is with Reels, so making a short video of still images or walking around and showing how you took them is something I hear about.

>I really miss when IGs main focus was just photography.
Yeah it's all changed badly. I used to get dozens or hundreds of likes years despite having a small account but now I only get likes from people that follow me or if I got real lucky and hit some brief trend.

>These days I shoot with a Canon T7 but Im currently saving up for a Sony later
Which Sony? The new A7V seems pretty good. I use Sony, Canon and Nikon pretty interchangeably in my photography. I'm considering a Ricoh or Fuji next as a travel camera but it's hard to pick one.

Also fuck IG for limiting up to 5 hashtags but I still see some people posting like 20+ hashtags, does anyone know a way around that?
>Which sony?
Uhh forgot but my friend texted me one to buy months ago so ill have to check that message again. I originally started with several point n shoot canons then i was stuck with a 2008 Nikon cooplix which is most of my older post before 2019 and later to a Canon T6 then T7 in 2021. >>

Ultimate dubs enjoyer, very based.

>By the looks of it yeah Flickr seems less social but i guess thats the point when you're posting photographs but maybe ill consider it
I'm thinking the same, at least the quality is better and you don't have to cuck your aspect ratios like you do on IG. Everything having to he 4:5 or 1:1 is very limiting.

>Also fuck IG for limiting up to 5 hashtags but I still see some people posting like 20+ hashtags, does anyone know a way around that?
There's a limitation? I never knew. I sometimes post from the browser version of IG and I can add as many hashtags as I want, maybe try that out and see how it goes.

>Uhh forgot but my friend texted me one to buy months ago so ill have to check that message again.
My guess would be an A7V or maybe the A7CII, both really good cameras. Get yourself a 35mm prime and a good zoom and you're all set.

>Your account looks clean and organized, something I used to do but stopped caring when I started posting cosplays and travel stuff
Thanks man. I post infrequently so I guess it's easy, I tend to wait until I have a nice set of 3 similar images before posting them and that might take weeks or months. I really only post for /p/ users to see them these days, seems like it doesn't really reach others like it did in the early 10s.

>Quality on flickr is better
Yeah from what ive seen. I might make one very soon I have so many photos from 2012 to now over 20000+ I think. Recently went to Japan so I have some more things to show. I don't consider myself a professional but I do experiment with new techniques these days or follow what I'm already good at. I dont really inspire people but normally I would say go with what you feel is best for you in terms of photography.
>>
>>4499997
Thank you.

>You can also create a second page where it's all non-cosplay stuff and keep the other as just cosplay, assuming that's what your bread and butter is.

Alright. Doing photos of cons and cosplay was actually part of my self-therapy for my social phobia, since you have to approach and talk to people (partially worked, by the way), but this is also what I share with people, scale models are more for /m/, /tg/ and own satisfaction. But I simply assumed that if people follow profile because of certain photos, they wouldn't want their update section filled with something completely different.

>Ideally you'd be uploading them yourself and tagging the con or vice versa. Try and get some more 1 on 1 photos with cosplayers too and tag them in the photos, it'll spread you around a little bit.

Okay, thanks for tips. When I'm volunteering as "officially approved" photog for the con, I send them all the photos and previously they wouldn't upload them but after I made IG account, they suddenly started to (probably don't want to post external links on IG/FB and prefers IG accounts tagging). I uploaded few on my own previously but IG can take like 10 photos at once while my galleries on site easily reach 300 if event was big and featured lots of performancers.

I know what you mean man, I really miss when IG had a chronological feed, you could just scroll and see images from accounts you actually give a fuck. I'm using a IG clone which removes most of the noise (ads, reels and what not), but still it's not the same.
>>
>>4500045
>But I simply assumed that if people follow profile because of certain photos, they wouldn't want their update section filled with something completely different.
I think that's probably pretty true for cosplay. I've met only a handful of cosplayers and I was unfollowed eventually since my cosplay stuff was pretty rare and I typically do street or architectural, which they don't give a shit about. So I think two accounts would work best for you.

>When I'm volunteering as "officially approved" photog for the con
How'd you get into it anyway? The cosplayers I'd met previously were just on the street and just wanted more photos, I haven't tried a con yet but I want to. Curious was well what lenses you use since the lighting is probably challenging indoors.

Cool that you have your own website too, that's a big plus for the cosplayers and events thing. How'd you do it? How much is storage for hundreds of photos?

Don't know about how cons work in your country, in mine staff usually announce media applications in advance (1-3 months), you usually have to send them some basic info like link to some sort of portfolio, if you cooperated with similar projects before and so on. Basic stuff they expect in return is being send photos you did during the con, usually as link to some online storage, details vary - some might also specify what kind of photos they want (like specific events, crowds/ participants for promotion, etc). This usually means free ticket and being much less restricted in where you can go during the events - this is most important stuff for me as it means moving around freely under and around the stage instead of being confined to single seat or small arena. At one con I was also allowed to use some staff restricted rooms, for example to safely leave some of my gear, which was good. About lenses - generally, outside the events nobody will mind if you use flash, at events you usually are expected not to but you might ask beforehand. Fast lenses are obligatory as many indoor events use low light, if it's some kind of dancing, you will need to keep exposition times at around 1/200 or 1/300 so it helps to be able to pump ISO too (reason why I bought my first full frame years ago was precisely because of that). For range it depends on what kind of stage you work with and where you will be located but in my case it was always rather close so anything under 85mm would be fine. Personally I use 24-70mm 2.8 one for convenience. Telephoto is usually not needed unless you really have to stay away.

Based. I don't have any zoom lenses with that aperture though, I have one that's a constant f/4 and that's it (which is still really good but not ideal maybe). Would just a 35mm prime work or is that too limiting do you think? I'm using full frame as well so maybe that f/4 limitation on the zoom wouldn't be so bad but I haven't done a lot of indoors stuff, so idk.

All good anon, I checked and we're following each other. I swear I'll start posting more soon, it's just been a busy time lately.

Two years ago I made shooting of idol cosplayers performance with 24-120 f/4 "universal" lens (I expect to be placed far away from scene so I mounted telephoto instead at first but turned out that I had to be very close instead so I quickly switched to what I had in backpack) and it still went okay so it should be good. Also, while I kept that 24-70mm solely due to space limitation, I was mostly shooting around 35-55mm range so that 35mm prime should be good as well.

Example from mentioned two years ago event - 50mm, f/4 and 1/250. Maybe not as good as work of many anons there but I really like it.

Looks good to me though, what ISO is that at? I rarely surpass 800 on my camera but I also rarely do indoor photos.
>>
>>4500236
3200 actually. I could probably go lower that time but with all that dancing and music I lost myself a bit.

Still looks really good to me, I wouldn't have thought it was above 1000 desu. Maybe f/4 will be entirely serviceable then but I also wonder if fucking up the gig means I'd never get a press pass there again though.
Was your IG enough to get brought on or did you require your own site?
>>

To be honest, I don't think you can really fuck it up. A lot depends on what the organizers expect, of course but you can check their official profiles/media beforehand to get a grasp on what kind of photography they like to post later. But using actual camera with good lenses puts you ahead already. You don't have to apply right away, when I was starting I was just shooting from the crowd, learning along the way (and was surprised how many people treated me as "official" solely because my camera looked "professionally" enough), when I felt more confident I sent organizers some photo on my own, as happy participant sharing his work. When I finally applied, they remembered me because of that, later I could use this whole "...and I was shooting for X guys before" as an argument for other applications.

>Was your IG enough to get brought on or did you require your own site?
Site is much older than my IG, which I made literally few months ago so I rather provide site link as it makes much better impression than pitiful IG account with 5 carousel posts and low amount of followers. I think any kind of online portfolio works well.

>Browser version of IG can add more hashtags
I checked it and it works! Thanks maybe now i feel more motivated to post. I still think it was retarded of IG to limit up to 5

Yeah back when the algorithm wasnt a mess

Happened to me too since I also rarely post cosplays they usually dont care about my other content but i guess thats same for others on my different posts and vice versa. I hardly even cosplay at all these days. Not into anime much either

>Site link
Thats pretty cool. Had some thoughts about a site too but ehh i just made a deviant art instead for my digital artworks or vector graphic works which I rarely do these days since I prefer to just go outside and shoot photos. Some friends told me I should make a book with many of my photos but kinda shy about it...maybe someday. I just don't think highly of myelf

Speaking of browser and mobile IG differences - can I somehow add a link to profile in browser version? I see this option blocked, says that "editing link is only available in mobile application", which sucks since I don't want to install their application.

Thanks man, I might make a site at some point and volunteer/apply at some of the anime and game conventions that come into my city. There's no shortage of that at least. Maybe I'll see if I can save on storage by embedding from a Flickr account or something.

Not as far as I know, the hashtags thing was my main trick unfortunately. Supposedly image quality is also slightly higher when uploading from the browser but I haven't done any side by side checks.
