I am going to post random images I made which I have also edited and I would love my /p/iss bros to give me feedback on my composition, but mostly editing style... or direct me towards an editing style that would fit me.>feedback on composition>feedback on editing>direct my towards my own styleStarting with opening image...
>>4502365Which /p/ had IDs after they stripped away metadata, so you can see who's picture belongs to whom.Eitherway, I like hiking on very desolate terrain, but also and if possible like going to car sports or aviation events.
>>4502365My gear is a canon90D and my goal is also to purchase the Canon r6 m3 this or next year
>>4502365My handle or name I go by is Adrian James
>>4502365I dont no... but if the weather is shit and pissy/cloudy I just go black and white. So most pictures in Scotland are going to be like this
>>4502365This is in Germany
>>4502365I still think this is one of my best compositions...>>4502374(p.s the germany picture I tried making is more silvery blue, but it came out too metallic yellow). I do have troubles with RAR editing, thankfully I have the jpg. I however wasnt able even with HUE shifts to hit the correct color. This is my gripe with darktable!
>>4502365This is another issure with Hue shift I may need to resolve. Magenta/green & yellow/blue
>>4502365Is it just me or are thumbnails completely different than when image is opened? Here the thumbnail is more saturated, but when posted it looks greyish and lifeless.
>>4502367don't put your name on your photos and definitely don't put your photos with your name on 4chan lol.nice photos. i have no real critique.
>>4502365Still magenta and blue issues I need to resolve in my rar editing
>>4502365>>4502382Not my real name, just my photographer nameThanks for first complement. I am however trying to figure out if there is a repeating style to be seen. If there is its my blind spot, I wish to harness it. Be it repetitive colors I use etc. I'm trying to find my quirk if there is one.
>>4502365Some stranded boats
>>4502365NecropolisTried find the Album cover of The Absence - From Your Grave only to realize they made a collage (related but not same picture or angle to pic posted). I however found the tower in that album cover.
>>4502365Should I go with framing or without?
>>4502365This was also a nice snowy morning
>>4502365For today the birb is my last photo in this thread. Will try to post more if I can get some constructive feedback
Did you have a Darktable thread a while back?I would crop off the last grouping of windmills on the right side.>>4502368The two bushes in front being nearly all black is distracting. For anything architectural or geometric, try keystoning.>>4502371Feels a little on the dark side overall.Very neat, but doesn't feel quite right for me. I'd be curious what slightly different perspectives would look like.Just looks like early era terrible digi camera>>4502368Great, nothing I'd change, but another I'd wonder what the moments before and after might look like
>>4502365good pic>>4502367boring. just a picture of thing. no composition. but if you like cars this is a cool picture. those hot brakes on the back are a nice detail. sense of speed is lost a bit since the blurred background is a bit too dark to see>>4502368just a picture of thing + everything feels ultra sharp. very rock wellian. honestly i hate this one.>>4502371this one is nice. big dark hill imposing on that tiny little white house. nice lines. nice textures all throughout playing with each other. saved.>>4502373nice composition leading lines but they dont really take you anywhere. i dont really like this one
>>4502374this one is a really interesting setting because it looks like flooded signposts and gives off those floating tori gate vibes. I also like the smooth and vast waters. but that whiteout is super distracting to me. the posts are already blacked out so I think you couldve stopped down a bit more to save some more of the image from whiteout. also maybe you can edit out the island, bird, and boats to increase that vastness. im curious what your shooting settings were>>4502375i think this is one of your best compositions, too. love the reflection of the white boat. love how the tree outline looks like a chasm. saved.>>4502377i think the green foreground part takes away from the image but the rocks are neat and the muted brown background is calming to my eye. where was this taken?>>4502378nice color and textures and light. I wish I was on that balcony right now. minus points for clipping the top and bottom windows but that's pedantic. >>4502387yeah it is kinda purple when i feel it should look more brown. but its a bit boring of a picture regardless. maybe a crop to focus on that little lake on the right?
>>4502388almost saved but cropping the top blade is too much for me. i like how centered it is and how it looks like it has the electrical tower and the other turbine "under its wings" like a protector or something. nice and simple>>4502391messy. lots of textures and hops between black and white. i would lean into it with a crop that ignores the leftmost section of the image and maybe the sky as well. has potential>>4502392boring. what am i meant to look at? the shapes of the graves?>>4502393that triangle shape is really cool but then theres also a biker and a group of people and the railing blocking the full shape. its hard to focus on the cool triangle with all these distractions. i am indifferent to the white border.>>4502394nice and blue. peaceful. clean colors. saved.
>>4502396nice color and texture and i like the sharp triangles but it feels more like a picture of a thing than anything else.overall the picture are of excellent visual quality but the compositions just miss the mark. nice pics thanks for sharing. also what do you mean when you say you want a style that fits you?
>>4502414Yes I did make a darktable post processing thread, but that was in September/October 2024I agree the two bushes are shit. I think I didnt try to take the picture again with the trees not overlappping the corner of the tower due to being obstructed by a wall.I'll try to correct the dark mountains. Sadly there is no other perspective. At that angle if I took another step left, I'd have fallen 100 meters to my death and landed in front of the dam. This was taken in Zervreila 7132 Vals(pic related) Is what you see after after getting of the bus and walking up to the dam.
>>4502454Thank you hater for the detailed feddback. And that is what I am struggling with... what differentiates just a "thing" from a composed image. I have to work whats in front of me at that moment with the perspective I'm given. Unless I stake out the area first, but that means coming back to the same spot day after day, season after season and making notes of how light and shadow play with eachother at a specific time of the day. As a tourist, that is almost never possible.
>>4502455Here is the first pic you mention again as a jpg with no color editing SOOC. Like I said, rar editing is my difficulty in combination with darktable. Thankfully I shoot combined rar + jpg.
>>4502455The boat and the Zypresse is my best overall I think. (pic related) from all my photos is the 2nd best I find. I love the mysical somewhat dark athmosphere. While taking this pic I almost fell and broke my camera. Literally no pavement and was walking/hiking on the edge of an icy road with crazy Austrians driving by as if they were in F1.
>>4502455This is the Old Man Storr taken on the Isle of Skye in the Highlands. Here is an updated image wwith better colors
>>4502456Yeah I like that windmill too, With my 28mm lens I just could go further back sadly and so let the top be out of frame.Okay, here is a cleaner boat pic. I like the stranded dirty boats on the Scottish coast for some reason. How is this one.
>>4502456You didnt liek the Necropolis one? I was hoping this invoked somberness.
>>4502457Thank you overall for the feedback>"overall the picture are of excellent visual quality"I am happy with this. This is what I have been striving for since I purchased my camera and always felt my Canon90D couldnt compete with modern Mirrorless cameras and it took me maybe 1-1.5 years till I found the correct settings I needed to dial in and also microadjust my lenses.>"but the compositions just miss the mark"hmmm... how do I get better?! I have read and internalized different compositon methods, but as a tourist with only a little bit of time on my hands, where I am somewhere for the first time and I can only shoot what is there in that moment. I wish I had liek a photography group or some peers to photograph with and with whom I could host friendly photo competitions at a designated area where we could chill for 1-2 hours.
>>4502560And with finding my style... Im not even fucking sure what I mean. You knwo when you see some pictures from your favorite photogrpahy youtuber and his picks/ editing skills are easily identifiable? This is what I also want. I myself cant see if there is a pattern with my pictures, some small quirk that stands out and is visible in all pictures I have currently posted in this thread. Something which is unintentionally me, which is why I consider it to be my blind spot. This is what I need help finding. Knowing this, I can then purposefully enhance it with post processing.
>>4502365Okay, I'll continue posting more. Here I like the angle and the color! This was in Edinburgh.
>>4502365I love this one. Woke up real early to get here and stood in the freezing cold for 2 hours. I might possibly need to purchase heating packs for my hands. Pisses me off having numb fingers. So cold and numb you cant even switch lenses or zip up your coat.
>>4502365Just a birb
>>4502365I need to get into industrial photography. Sometimes it looks fucking cool. Definitely only if its black and white. One day I might get the balls to just tresspass and get some nice pics.
>>4502365This pigeon of peace is at the same place this picture:>>4502374>>4502553... was taken
>>4502567>>4502365Btw I am now trying this new watermark. Feedback on this would also be nice. Would like it in svg but cant find a good png to svg converter.
>>4502365>>4502414Here some other windmills from the same place as my first picture.
>>4502365
professional photographers never put their name on a photo, this is kinda cringe ngl Photographers make a great photo and people wonder who made it, they care to know who made it. And if they don't then your watermark won't help you
>>4502572But how will they then find the person who made it if they really liek the picture? How will anons on /p/ know this is my work and not someone elses work I just copied in here?If I could find my own editing/photogrpahy style then... a signature or watermark wouldnt be needed since it would be apparent to anyone and everyone who the creator was.
>>4502574>But how will they then find the person who made it if they really liek the picture?Google search by image
i need to go to a rally stage and take some photos. i live in wales and never been which is sad
>>4502574>How will anons on /p/ know this is my work and not someone elses work I just copied in here?noone here cares loldrop the watermark and the white borders, be a fucking man
>>4502583
It's not enough that we have snoy schizos, tripfags, and dogfuckers, we are also going to get watermark trannies.
>difference between "picture of thing" vs composed image>>4502367this photo belongs in a magazine for rally races. the only focus is the car. Not to say its a bad photograph, it's actually very good! it's high quality and has all those little details im sure rally fans would love to gawk at, but if i saw this image in an art gallery, i would glance over it. It has a boring composition.>>4502375this does not belong in a magazine for boats or zypresses, despite boats and zypresses being the main subject, there's more going on in the photo. the strong constrast between black and white, the way the tree looks likes a chasm in the ocean, the way the reflection of the boat makes the whiteness of the image stronger, the patterned texture of the water. all of these elements merge together to create a compositionally pleasing image. its not a picture of a boat or relfection or plant or water, its a picture of all these things in a harmony of sorts. if i saw this image in an art gallery, i would stop and admire.>>4502551again, this photo belongs in a magazine for rally races. and again, its a wonderful photograph, a rally fan might hang this on their wall if you gifted them the image. but again, the only element is the car. its boring. its just a picture of a car. its just a picture of a thing>>4502391this does not belong in a magazine for boats, despite boats being the main subject. again, there's more going on in the photo. all these jumps between black and white randomly scattered throughout, the sharp textures of the shore, the leafless trees, the boats being washed ashore and looking abandoned, the flat grey sky. all these elements compose into a gritty photograph. if i saw this image in an art gallry, i would stop and admire. although there are elements that take away from this grittyness like the car park on the left and those trees with leaves still on them
>>4502551>I have to work whats in front of me at that moment with the perspective I'm given.while compositions might not be immediately apparent, spending just 5 minutes in an area, walking around, trying different angles, or just simply pausing, photographs will reveal themselves. you can still learn from what you've experienced to build upon your intuition, allowing you to sniff out compositions faster>As a tourist, that is almost never possible. sadly, as a tourist, some shots are impossible for you. but as a fact of life, most shots are impossible, period. i may never see a rally race in person, or see scotland or germany. i may never lay eyes on that church, or see the same bird on the same pole that you have. and in contrast, you may never see the things i have seen. "To have seen something, is to have not seen something else." there are still lots of good shots to take
>>4502553almost no whiteout, nice! but im confused, this version is your SOOC jpg? usually the SOOC jpg has irreversible artifacts like whiteout and the raw version is of higher quality, but here it seems to be the opposite? for a raw image to have whiteout and the jpeg to not, it makes no sense.>rarwhat is this? you mean to say raw?>>4502554the boat and zypresse are without a doubt great images, but this one is not second best. you say you love the mystique atmosphere but rather than focus on the fog or the dark looming trees, instead you fill the frame with a well paved road and maintained fence, which strongly insist that there is nothing mysterious or dangerous happening. and then you tilt it 45 degrees for no reason. unless you were literally falling when you took this photo, in that case that's funny as fuck. but still not second best.>>4502555the color isnt really the reason i wasnt a fan of the image. its more of a picture of The Storr than it is a photograph that combines all the visual elements present into a melody. and even then, it doesnt feel like a picture of The Storr, not enough focus is put on The Storr, its too easy for my eyes to wander to the lake and river below>>4502557such a shame about the windmill. i like this boat picture too. lots of elements to build a scene of abandonment and grittyness with a lot fewer elements to fight that theme. this is a nice picture>>4502558i felt no somberness from the necropolis or this image. i dont feel much of anything from themi actually felt the most somber from 4502394 which is such a blue and peaceful scene
>>4502560the canon90d is a 5 year old 1,000+ USD camera. im going to assume it is perfectly capable of taking any picture a modern mirrorless can (besides the 10,000 fps sony that came out a while back). only the most autistic of autistic camera autists can tell if its dslr or mirrorless>how do I get better?!the same way you get better at anything else: lots of practice and watching people better than you do it.>I wish I had liek a photography groupim sure these exist in your area. if it doesnt exist, then you will have to be the one to make it>>4502562i understand what you're trying to say. i personally do not see a pattern in your images. i think if there was a pattern between the pictures, it would be more obvious and you would also be able to see them. i think if you want a style, you yourself are going to have to go about curating it.>>4502563>building corner photographykeknice color. but clipping part of the window, words are distracting, angle not lined up with frame corner.>>4502564picture of thing>>4502565picture of thing + whiteout on the subject
>>4502566spectacular clouds! the buildings only detract from the beauty>>4502567beautiful. saved. interesting branch shapes, bird silhouette in full flap mode, sun is centered nicely with a nice radiant glow. i would crop out the stuff on the bottom though, the building is distracting from the beautiful nature>>4502568wonderful fantasy-like scene! very similar to your signposts on that infinite lake. the sky being mostly closed off by the clouds partially negates the feeling of infinite vastness and that chip in the barrier on the right is distracting. the other watermark was clear and simple, this one i cant even read it.>>4502569i like this one better. the spareness of the windmills and the increased fog give the image a nice feel>>4502570interesting structure with all these lines and shadows and nice sunset light, i want to study this structure under these conditions. but then you zoom it out and then add these people at the bottom. i dont think the people add much. and why are their bikes sideways? a bit distracting
>>4502571feels like multiple images collaged together (in a good way). lots of changes in texture from mountain side to road to bushes to machinery to lake to mountains. nice>>4502580nice textures and lines and light>>4502595whysit purple? nice composition. i like how the bridge is well lit but everything else is dark, really focuses on the bridge nicely. if it wasnt this weird purple i would save it.
>>4502566The worst thing that can happen when you trespass is you get told to leave
>>4502645>and why are their bikes sideways?you need to go outside more, autist.
>>4502811bad bait. im going to block you so i never see your stupid comment again. bye
>>4502562One pattern is you make a lot of use of high contrast and large "blocks" against the sky. >>4502567is a prime example of this. Most of your photos are about silhouette, not all but most. You can actually see this quite well with how often you tilt your camera up to the sky, like in: >>4502564I personally wouldn't have done that, I think cropping the base of the bridge off creates a bit of an odd termination and whilst the sky is pretty it means my view of the bridge isn't complete.
