Color doesn't matter.

Today when you can adjust colors just by pressing a button there's nothing more fake than a color.

You should only shot B&W.

Black and White photography is real and pure. Shape, shadow and light - this is what makes your photography look special, not some bright oversaturation. If your picture looks good without colors then your picture is worthy

wrong, I like colored lights at night and colored objects shot with flash.
But otherwise black and white is pretty cool too.

I want to buy the GRIVm to replace my Nikon Z. Because there are those phases where I really can't figure out a good color setting. Especially at weird lights in nature. There is always something off. The greens, etc. And then I still export and I'm unhappy everytime I see the image. With the Ricoh I could easily crank up the ISO and still get beautiful sharp photos. And no need to color correct anything.

On the other hand color photos overshadow my lack of composition and slapping those vsco presets on them make them look neat too. AND i have a little kid and I'm afraid that someday I bite my ass for only having b&W pictures of him. And my wife gets angry everytime I send her an b&w photo.
>>
b&w digital photos are the ugliest shit known to man. if you use a snapshit and open lightroom to make them black and white so they look artsy you are scum under my shoe.
>>
>>4507214
what if you use a monochrome sensor?
>>
Bw shooters look like THAT!!!?
>>
>>4507187
nikon allows you to set a color profile for the jpegs, i've had mine outputting them in b&w for years. you can more or less built a lut and load it in
>>

Where can I find good presets for Nikon?

Is this the only website https://nikonpc.com/
Was it made by Nikon itself?
>>

don't know, it's been a long time since i dicked around with it and i don't use presets

Can someone explain to me the appeal of B&W photography? I'm really trying hard even shot a month of B&W only but I get bored of it so quick. I think color and color gradients add so much to photos making them much more alive, interesting and pleasing to look at. While B&W always have this depressing look to them, more far from reality. Just imagine being on a tropical island with amazing blue water and vivid plants and you lose all the color information.
>>

It prevents the photohtapher from going full ken rockwell
>>
>>4508463
If something adds to a photo, you should keep it in, if it doesn't, you should leave it out. Applies to color as well.
There are plenty of scenes where colors don't meaningfully add to the photo, or even are a distraction.
Sometimes you might have really beautiful colors and trick yourself into thinking a photo is good when it's really just a mediocre photo with good colors.
Absence of color can shift more emphasis to other things like form, texture, contrast, etc.
>Just imagine being on a tropical island with amazing blue water and vivid plants and you lose all the color information.
Just imagine being a place with nothing but ugly and distracting colors around you.

unironically I think the GRIVm might be the best and only usable GR camera. because with black and white the joke of ricoh color science, the absolute failure that is rico's AWB and the retarded amount of grain with any ISO above 160 dont matter at all.
I thought about getting the GRIVm myself too, but then I realized I can just set my iPhone to monochrome and get better results. so yeah

I got a sailboat and left photography pretty much behind. It's liberating - just experiencing the moment and not being forced to take photos.
>>
>>4508463
Shoot for light contrast and it won't look boring.

If you shoot boring flat subjects then it's going to look bad. Which is where colour can help by bringing attention to your subject.
>>
>>4508529
>iPhone to monochrome and get better results
I'm not much into specs and all but is this really true? Talking even outside on iphone sized screens. Whenever I look at iphone photos on my 4k monitor they seem rather bad. But I have the iphone 13 which is kinda old already.

But the ricoh sensor is still quite bigger isn't it
>>

>is this really true
of course not, phones are inherently bottom barrel, they get truckloads of shilling since they are by far the most profitable dogshit ever and spies on you with over 7 ais now, also that there fake res via ai upscaling

No matter how many megapixels phones have - you start zooming or just view the image on anything bigger than a phone and it starts falling apart really fast.

Even with a red filter to make the bark stand out, I still did a shitload of dodging and burning. I do like the colored version, but I couldn't resist.
>>
>>4508463
you're absolutely right to be skeptical
colour is king and brings life to a photo
black-and-white photography is the first port of call for students and dilettantes to flaunt their artistic prowess because, as you say, it makes everything seem depressing... and all good art is, of course, sad.

having said that, my editing workflow would be kneecapped and crippled without a luminance-only view. tonality matters, it's just not the only thing that matters.

Embarassing post.

>Can someone explain to me the appeal of B&W photography?
If you fuck up your colour photo, often you can salvage it by turning it into artsy and tasteful B&W photo. Distracting red shirts are a woe no more. The noise looks like grain. You can emphasize the contrast in lighting, composition and geometry in your photo by ripping the colour off of it

That being said, have any /p/eeps here tried Lippmann plates to capture real colours?
>>
>>4510709
lies, the color of what you shoot matters either way as does the contrast and quality of light on target. you clearly haven't fucked up enough photos
>>

>>4510741
Thanks for the kind words but I fuck up at least 2/3rds of the pictures I take. You can always try different colour filters on B&W and play with the curves. Agreed about the quality of the light tho
>>
My autism tries to steer away from taking b&w photos because it makes almost everything look better, which I find takes away from the challenge of getting a good shot
>>
>>4511055
Do you also avoid certain lighting scenarios for similar reasons?
>>
>>4511056
I wouldn't say that. I do like some challenge, but I'm not going for the extreme or anything of that sort
>>
I'm a b&w enjoyer these days. I hope it's not just a phase. I'm thinking of trading in my Leica Q2 for the Q2 Monochrom. The normal Q2 is really bad in low light, the noise is pretty bad. Also the white balance is always off. With the mono I could easily shoot in dark places without worrying about noise at all. Sh..should I?
I also have another camera system in case I need some color.
>>
>>4511538
I like my M10-M a lot, don't plan on ever selling.
Great high ISO performance of course, but the pixel peeping is unreal. Looks better than the Foveon and GFX I've used at a pixel level.

Can also take inspo from the Gorsky thread and make some trichromes

Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one and yours stinks as much as everyone else's.
