Photography became more and more readily available. People did it as a hobby for a decade. The realised they didnt make any money out of it. They took fewer photos. Posted fewer photos.I think it still has a place, this board. Its a good place to dump stuff, get it seen, talk about things that piss you off.
>>4507585The funny part is each of those three categories are mutually exclusive. Dogposters are based and heal 4chan btw.
captcha and waiting systems are a pain in the ass sitewide

>>4507647I think this place just doesn't appeal to younger generations and there's very little newfags coming to this site compared to 10 years ago.
>>4507583Personally I think the gay mods and the gay backseat mods who always cry whenever somebody makes a new thread is to blame.
Performative photographers finally got filtered by living in a post-simulation society. Global cost of living increases pricing out new photographers in ways that hasn't really been seen before. Indian mudflood diaspora to the west making the outdoors less enjoyable and less photogenic. Even if 4chan got new users (it doesn't) the gatekeeping influencer mafia who own wedding "photography" businesses are targeting mindrotted would-be hobbyists with a constant bombardment of information overload to scare them away and make this Fisher Price hobby for retards seem difficult to learn somehow and since they have goldfish attention spans, the psyops stick. Literally no one is doing photographers any favors. I don't think it's just photography though, people generally don't have hobbies anymore and everyone seems to be shambling around in survival mode instead of enjoying life.
>>4507583Blame the fujislugs and the staff that enabled them. When you have nannies banning people for making f/64 threads and leaving brandfag circlejerks up that's what you get. Sonyggers too helped sink the place into nothingness. Glowies and perfidious angloids trying to dox people didn't help either. And the mirrorlesscuck to AI prompter pipeline is also real. If you're content with seeing simulacra, some deformed shadows instead of reality, then it only makes sense you'll be content with AI. TCD.

For me, this:The board culture here was never that great, but you could learn some in the olden days. Nowadays it is just a bunch of brand/meme shit posting, like that cANON in this thread going on about fujislugs and snoyboys. How does that in any way help me with my photography? It doesn't. And I'm soooo fucking done with it. Take photos with whatever you want, who cares? Sadly, just too many.Sure, stuff like that has always existed, but it feels like every thread goes there nowadays. And I've never felt safe posting my own pictures here, because well... it's 4chan. Were I to post my pictures I've always felt I could be doxed, or stalked etc. Which is on me.And well, what little photography talk I need to have nowadays there are much better places to have. Mostly I just shoot pictures instead, learn and develop by doing.

The cases of doxxing and stalking here are numerous.>And well, what little photography talk I need to have nowadays there are much better places to have. Mostly I just shoot pictures instead, learn and develop by doing.Back in the good old days this had some really interesting content but you can thank the usual suspects for supressing anything worth discussing to enable the garbage. This board used to have rich discussions, but over time the brandfags and dramafags took over. Brand circlejerks became a thing where you'd better praise everything a fujislug made no matter how garbage, because shooting with a Fuji and putting some white borders meant it was to be revered as art. So it went from a place where snapshits were shunned to a quantity over quality disgrace where "nophoto" was deemed an acceptable response to constructive criticism, where the attitude wasn't to learn to do better but to demand those having anything different from praise to give post a photo so that you can make up some bullshit reason to feel better about your snapshit. It's izzat culture, instead of trying to better themselves they try to make their critics look bad to save face.
>>4507583There was a core group contributing to the board, then casuals arrived, all of whom are zoomers. Since zoomers are mentally ill and scoff at accumulating knowledge or skills, the board died under a torrent of mental illness and snapshits.

Some people used to say photography is going to kill art.Now AI killed art. And nothing can possibly kill photography because AI can't capture our reality. So in other words all those faggots who studied art and music or 3D modeling are not needed now, only photographers were not harmed by AI.
>>4507583I've been lurking intermittently for about year and a half to learn about photography from other anons with more experience and I have only seen namefaggotry and brand niggerism, biggest culprit being that cANON retard. You can't retain newfags like this.
>>4509314I've been trying to effortpost these last years, I made threads about the history of photography, threats about photographers and post photos/give feedback but none of these things really drive engagement hereit seems like anons here prefer the gearfaggotry, namefag drama and nostalgia jerking about how it was better before
It's demographics. As people get older they tend to "get a life" eventually and have less time to spend here or leave altogether. This affects quality posters moreso than garbage posters. There's hardly any newfags to replace them (thx ticktock) and those that do come are, on average, of lower quality too due to "internationalization" of the internet. This drop in quality drives away even more of the quality posters and only garbage people remain eventually

The editing threads, which by and large are the most useful threads we could have that do not require you to leave your PC, are some of the most neglected because even actually doing some editing at your workstation is too much photography for the average /p/ user. Nobody has any input because nobody actually understands. Nobody cares. It's pathetic. In fact, capitalism means the absolute majority of products are encouraged to be bad in actuality and good in marketing because that makes the most money, and progress is guaranteed to stall while prices (and debt) continue to rise until the next paradigm shift.

>>4509440Switching to something that isn’t shit will make good technique significantly more worthwhile. With FF and a very basic IS lens ala 24-120 f4 I have never needed a tripod even at 8pm, IS100 f8 0.5s-1s territory with handheld bracketing to cover extreme highlights and all the controls to do this at my fingertips. And while that impresses autists I can also just take the fucking picture and move on, even if the single handheld shot is technically only as good from a chart standpoint as a max effort rebel t2i composite, a sane person would understand the massive real life advantage of just being able to take the photo and go, and go home with the same good enoughness of a max effort bracketed panorama from an ewaste camera. All that exposure cope shit isn’t really a useful skill artistically. It’s just tech tricks for chart nerds. Real life asks for taking the photo and going sometimes. A lot of the time. That’s why cameras got better, and stopped getting that much better once they got nikon DSLR levels of good. Thank god you can always sell your wormji and buy a good camera that just werks, and usually gain some free cash for something that actually matters more than worms. >>4509454Tripods are for doing tripod things. Not coping with inadequate sensors. The way to cope with an inadequate low end canon is to realize its market value is identical to or in excess of a superior camera. Not all cameras are good. A good camera won’t fix your mistakes, but it will expand what you can do when you’re not making them and make it significantly less involved to do basic things. Save tripods for epic swirly 5s exposure landscapes instead of approximating ISO 100 in photoshop while arguing about how no one should ever replace some ewaste.
>>4509460>Literally all this proves is that like many children, your summer job was at best buy. What would be sufficient evidence for you?Have you even proved you own a camera, or take photos yet?>>4509457> FF can also blow past it leaving people like you leaning on theoretical scenariosWhat a good opportunity for you to share some photos that could only have been achieved on your FF, you could sure show us up
>>4509460You posted pilpul, I'm not going to pretend your bad faith false equivalencies hold any merit.
>>4509462>Not coping with inadequate sensors. You realize you're coping having poor shooting technique by appealing to "buy a better camera" right? Getting a bigger sensor because you're too lazy for a tripod is cope.
>>4509465The icing on the cake is that his photos will still look like shit because he refuses to learn the basics of photography
>>4509461Literal nonsense. The equivalence thing has been done to death. It needs rules to work as a gotcha, and FF can effortlessly cheat them. It’s why crop didn’t take over. It’s why medium format still exists and is creeping downmarket. Equivalence… just doesn’t matter. >sometimes my kind of shitty camera photo would match your nicer camera in these two metricsYeah I’m happy for you but there’s test shots and then there’s photography, and sometimes people just don’t want to have to put in max effort with the ideal lens to match what a camera that actually costs less can do in a single shot with the kit zoom. Because taking photos and nerding out in photoshop are really two different hobbies. You’re talking to someone who still uses 16mp micro four thirds, but also uses 30mp full frame, medium format film, and occasionally borrows something fancier. I am well aware of what cameras do.
Who could have guessed this thread would devolve into equivalence debate and the merits of using a tripod. Based.
>if I used a tripod I wouldn't be able to take snapshits with such ease!
>>4509468>The equivalence thing has been done to death. It needs rules to work as a gotcha, and FF can effortlessly cheat them. It’s why crop didn’t take over. On the contrary, you need to look for edge cases that are mostly irrelevant exceptions to find a gotcha. >It’s why medium format still exists and is creeping downmarket. Equivalence… just doesn’t matter.Crop medium format is a meme and gets mogged by FF simply because of what the ecosystem is like. Save for some niche uses it's not advantageous over FF and once again, some uppity fag (hasselblyat) got mogged by a 6D on this same board. It simply got cheaper to make and has halo effect so it's easier to market to gearfags.
>>4509467>>4509465>you couldnt possibly think nailguns are worth it unless you can’t swing a hammer! That’s quite a conclusion to draw from>if you dont always have the time to do it manually, which you don’t, just use the more convenient tool. it won’t fix your mistakes but it will make them less relevant when you’re rushing and make doing it right even more worth it. I see you spent a lot on your hammer. Come on dude, its just a hammer. You could sell that and afford both a hammer and a nail gun. And then the fag with the boutique hickory handled vintage nail hammer says>NOOOOOO! You have to use limited equipment to learn!Which instantly outs him as the strict definition of a gear-fagThe focus is the equipment and expertise at using equipment, just getting shit done is an afterthought. If someone isn’t happy with their mediocre camera that costs as much as a good one, fuck “operator skills”, just get a camera that doesn’t need autistic effort to achieve standard image quality, live your life, and learn photoshop tricks because you want to be better, not because your phone looks better if you dont and it makes you regret using a camera that runs like it’s 2008.
>>4509468>Because taking photos and nerding out in photoshop are really two different hobbies. It's the same hobby, just casually vs enthusiast engagementFor a casual nophoto, surprised do see such strong opinions
>>4509472It's not that you can't swing a hammer. Anyone can swing a hammer. It's that you have no idea of what a nail is used for. You're like that kid who can't even play Smoke on the Water and blames his Strat for being unable to play Hangar 18 competently so he goes and buys a Jackson King V hoping it will work this time.
>>4509468>I am well aware of what cameras do.>But I won't ever prove it by sharing photosSad, I can't imagine seeming to care so much and not having photos to share
>>4509471I didn’t know literally every photo with more mp than crop, more aperture wiggle room, a lower ISO, etc is an edge case. ISO 100 is the default from 8am to 8pm. Maybe you lack skill?Again I use a 16mp mft milc, 30mp ff dslr, 6x7 film, and occasionally temporarily use mirrorless from r5 to gfx100s from the worlds best long term rental site (ebay). You compared a rebel to a dated canon 1d. We do not have the same perspective. I think cameras are like tools. Use the one that works now. Worry about getting the best out of it later. You think cameras are like pokemon, and if you don’t get the gym badge by maxing out what you have you can’t handle the better one. It’s very sad because good cameras aren’t expensive. They’re cheaper.
>>4509472You convinced me to buy a phone camera. Thanks.
>>4509476>I am now larping as a camera ownerSad
>>4509477A used D750 currently costs less than the latest iphone SE and is significantly betterMaybe when you start out skill some crop coper will “equivalently” take a similar photo every now and then by putting in more effort (oh no, you shot f8 iso 3200, you lose!), but once you have skill it’s just better every time.
>>4509476>ISO 100 is the default from 8am to 8pmI'd rather raise the ISO than make my photos have the depth of a puddle to hide their dishonesty but I'm more into photography than specshitting like a soulless mirrorlesscuck.
>>4509476>the gym badge by maxing out what you have you can’t handle the better one.Do you also think painters should start out on the finest canvases and paints? Programmers should start out on the beefiest computers? Drivers should start on the highest performance cars?Interesting perspective
>>4509481I think this is a red herring. His argument is more Colapinto fangirl tier, saying he crashes his F1 car because the car is not good enough and not because of a skill issue.
>>4509479But a phone is easy to use right now and I don't need to do anything but press a button. It has superior af as well, and then AI does the rest for me. Arent phones mirrorless cameras and therefore superior? Yeah.
>>4509480>he has to open the aperture to shoot at iso 100>he can’t utilize composition and distance to make aperture less relevant eitherYou lack skill and have never used a camera from 8am to 8pm. >>4509481Do you think a $500 FF DSLR is the finest and a $2000 fuji is beginner kit? I’m glad you hate beginners!I think people should buy once, cry once, and get as much performance and resale value in what they start out with because the only thing worse than failing photography, is trying and failing photography with a brand new low end crop sensor canon kit that ran over a thousand that nobody else wants to buy for more than half of what they paid. After getting frustrated having to learn an actual art in addition to your favorite topics, photoshop tricks, tripod tips, and equivalence. And photography loses another one!The best way to learn all of these is to just use a good camera you can afford, and then when you get made fun of, seize victory by taking your cheap d610 or whatever to a level a lesser camera simply isn’t reaching, and laugh because most of the time the photos look better and have more editing attitude anyways unless it’s a high ISO, stopped down close focus photo of a dogs nose (your usual!)

>>4509485>non sequitur to distract from the meat of the post where he got BTFO

>>4509486>everyone I don't like is cANONMeds.>Sure, and the reason you can’t stand nicer cameras is because you can’t afford them.I don't think they're "nicer" at all, higher price doesn't equal nicer. You'd know this if you did any photography rather than come to /p/ to do low effort trolling when you know nothing about the subject.
>>4509489>but you said the easiest carpentry is the best so I had AI 3d print me a dildo>>4509490It sounds like you lack both skill and intellect. Equivalence loses out for action because FF has better lenses for it, but lets be real no one cares how high quality your dog park photos are so forget that entirely. Equivalence is made irrelevant by megapixel count/pixel quality differences. Equivalence is irrelevant if longer exposures are on the table. Equivalence is irrelevant if you have the skill to get enough DOF with a wider aperture. Equivalence is irrelevant if the DOF is different but no one cares that the blurry background is more or less blurry. Equivalence is irrelevant if there’s a lot of light. Equivalence needs a top tier crop lens to go against a dated, pedestrian lens for FF to get the same aberrations to DOF ratio. Equivalence just isn’t very relevant.I’m gad your cheap camera can be 90% as good 10% of the time especially if you spent twice as much but please be realistic. It’s really just a cheaper way to take okay-ish photos of critters. And it would be a lot cooler and more enjoyable and convenient if it were at least decent crop shit like a 90d instead of overpriced junk like a fuji (fair price <$800 for an xt5) or a rebel 800d (fair price $150)
>>4509492>Equivalence loses out for action because FF has better lenses for itlolThere's a reason crop is favored for sports, more reach. Megapixel count on the subject is what matters, not general megapixel count.
>cANON went forward in time to argue down his more retarded future self and talk himself into buying a Canon 90D

>>4509498It’s because sports photography is so boring almost no one does it for fun, so their boss buys their gear or they make it a tax writeoff and they use the best instead of engaging in minmax cope.Equivalence isn’t even real. It’s just a tool for explaining that fstop isn’t apparent aperture size and photon shot noise changes with cropping. It leaves a lot of very real things out (including those that make some better crops look better than some shittier FFs and the 2x cropped z8 look better than the full res om1) because 10 varied points of technical minutiae don’t make an interesting beginner-oriented blog post. Only beginners even care about the sketchy theory called “equivalence”.

I hope the Sony is a DSLR, from DSLT onwards they're dishonest machines. >>4509719Equivalence posting is actually anti-nipticking. It frees you from most specs. Past /p/ understood snapshits are worse than not attaching an image (for calling them photos would insult photos) and people were willing to learn rather than to get validation to consoom.
>>4509900Equivalence posting is dishonest gearfaggoty with a tenuous connection to photographic reality and how cameras actually work. If you ever had a point every professional would have switched to a lumix G9II overnight. I recommend you get a job and a modern full frame camera instead of a 1ds from goodwill, so you no longer feel a need to cope and deliver /p/ the experience of playing chess with a pigeon. Digital camera sensor tech is a relatively complex subject that has often left you confused and responding only to parts of posts that you understand, which isn’t much.
Captcha is what's killing this site.It took me almost 5 minutes to make a post. Verify email, solve 14 captchas, literally 14 of them, and after 7 it sends the email link and you have to do the other 7. That's fucking ridiculous. You're talking about an audience with the attention span of a gnat who can't be assed to throw their piss jugs away in their room and you want them to jump through all those fucking hoops just to call someone a nigger.Autism and severe crippling soul-crushing depression are the only reasons I'm here anymore, I don't fit in anywhere else and I hate social media and what it has done to society. It makes it frustrating to impossible for IQs too far under 100 to post. It’s even timed like all real IQ tests are. If you have problems with it beyond visual scanning fatigue and accidental inputs you need to see a neurologist. >>4510040I want him to stay, but adopt a more uncompromising stance. /p/ reminds me of /mu/s guitar thread. It almost died because it was taken over by endless arguments between people who lived the reality that better gear like tube amps and american made guitars were better and beginners who seethed that all of that was a waste of money and their modded squier and amp sim sounded the same. Unwinnable because reality and experience can’t defeat delusional poorfag cope. Demands to post playing never helped because when people post OC to keep a foot in a gear argument, the OC is guaranteed to be hated and more likely to be low quality. They saved themselves by collectively deciding to brutally mock all coping poorfags. If anyone mentioned their cheap gear or spoke ill of gibson and tubes, they just called them an idiot until they shut up and left. Miraculously as soon as /gg/ stopped tolerating poorfags everyone posted playing again because all of the people with nicer guitars were also the ones who actually played guitar, and the few cheap gear people who knew how to play were more productive without fighting an unwinnable battle against gibson’s superior tone. Now for the revelation: cANON and cinefag are both copers who got kicked out of /gg/.
>>4509347>>4507760>>4507584>>4509938these all seem true. for something like a photo thread, captcha becomes a very tedious barrier to poting the content the board is aboutregarding tripfags and flame wars, you can blame the instigators but half of the blame also has to go to those who engage. literally 20 years ago, forum dwellers found out that to maintain hygiene of an online space, you have to refrain from feeding the trolls. b8 disicipline here and boardwide is at an all time low. idk what it is, but current users just can't seem to resist the dumbest bait imaginable. furthermore, probably more of an effort should have been made on the part of old-timers to inoculate newcomers against the worst regulars. for something like a 2-year span, p wasn't really usable unless you had cinefag and cANON filtered, but newcomers aren't going to know how to do this. something simple like an infographic on how to filter posts probably would have gone a long way>>4509658rip. those were fun. i started shooting more film and less digital fuji, and almost all of the other main posters left altogether
Well photography booming during the covid lockdowns makes sense. Going outside and taking pictures was one of the few things you could do to get out of the house. When the lockdowns ended, people went back to their old hobbies.
>>4507583Basically this >>4510041Fags like cANON are in seemingly every single thread shitting it up with brandfaggotry
>>4510080Photography is too niche for your little plan, if you want to create your circlejerk start a mumble server or a shitcord or whatever, pushing people away from an almost dead board is going to finish it off entirely
>>4510080Square pe/gg/er detected LOL. With solid body electric guitars the body "quality" can affect sustain but not much else. The tone comes from the pickups, the geometry, and most importantly what's downstream (amp, pedals, etc). Valve amps are quite nice and while digital processing has come a long way and can in some cases manage to sound indistinguishable from tubes, it takes some serious sound engineering skill (or good presets) to do so. Given the choice between an AxeFX and a tube amp I'd pick the latter. Eddie Van Halen famously played a guitar hacked together from spare parts and it sounded great. Gibson has made absurd claims and only retards eat it up. Want to sound great? Use this polish! It goes without saying that the real equivalent of /gg/ poorfags is fujislugs pretending that their "film sims" in any way appear to be the films they pretend to emulate. >this boss katana sounds exactly like a mesa boogie>this fuji x-pro3 takes pictures just like Kodachrome! The irony is that a Les Paul copy is closer to the real deal than a Fuji "rangefinder style" Leica knockoff. Just like valves and transistors, digisluggery falls apart when saturation is reached. Whereas film and tubes blow out gracefully, solid state clips.
>>4510080>It almost died because it was taken over by endless arguments between people who lived the realityI'd be down with this, except most of the people arguing don't take photos or even own a camera to begin withIt's nophotos coping vs poorfagsIt's also interesting that as one of the more experienced people here, who does photos in reality, I have such strongly different opinions, like the comment I replied to initially is fairly retarded for anyone that actually shoots for a living, if you can get on board calling those people out too, I'm down!
>>4510080What camera bodies and lenses do you own and use?
>>4509902Equivalence is one of the many reasons professionals pick FF for most tasks. You go to a chess match and think it's checkers, that's how out of your element you are. What's the equivalent of an 11-24mm f/4L lens for APS-C? It's basically unobtanium. It'd be 9-15mm. In general FF has more variety in quality wides and you can easily rent them as needed.
>>4509902Additionally, for portrait work most clients are tasteless retards who want more toneh. And no format offers more toneh than FF does unless you stop digislugging and do like doghair. But clients also won't pay enough and you want some quality assurance nowadays, with digislugging almost foolproof. So to tonehmaxx you get FF and call it a day.
>>4510093Love all the retards who think it is just /p/ or a 4chan problem.>>4507643This is a systems thinking type response, the rest is just cope that the losers here will find some kind of promised land where their mountains of useless plastic gear will somehow find value again.
>>4510172Still photography remains relevant, posting for likes on Instagram was always pointless. Mindless gearchasing even more so. Sure, some billboards and signs were replaced with screens in the meatspace. But overall, still photography is still everywhere, and I'm not only talking about art galleries or cafe decoration here. Look around, open your eyes and see.
