Im going back to aps-c, pic related. I have finally gained wisdom and dropped the pretensions. It only took me a decade. Bros, 24MP is enough. Film is dead. Medium format, film or digital, is only worth it if you shoot professionally. save yourself the pain. Just shoot. Don’t be a gear whore.
>>4517696If you were speaking any truth you wouldn’t be attention whoring on 4chan over itYou know you’re giving up something you enjoy. Or maybe looking up longingly instead. Short on cash? Lol. Now give us the usual cope about instagram on phones and return to the orange site
>>4517702The fuck are you talking about. I don’t even have instagram. I print for books and prints up to 2x3ft. I used to hike with an RZ67.I enjoyed the fantasy of using a film or sensor size that “pros” use. I haven’t picked up my Gfx 50R in months. You what I do love? My Ricoh griiix. Obsessing over specs doesn’t matter if you don’t take the camera with you.Sounds like you want me to feed into your own delusions about what a real “photographer” is or sone gay shit.
>dont be a gear whore!>blows $2000 on a "26mp" (16mp adjusted for cfa blur) cope machine that gets mogged hard by a $300 5DIII and $100 40mm f2.8

>>4517704Nice reddit spaced seethe rant but it really sounds more like you ruined photography for yourself by being an actual gear whore and now you spend all day on /p/ taking it out on people who are happy with their a7vs and r5iis whenever you aren’t taking pics of your dog. I cant fathom being mentally ill enough to make a nophoto thread informing 4chan of my choice of camera and claiming its the best. I already know my camera is the best. You come to me to hear about it. Not the other way around. Sucka.
>>4517707/p/ is dead I’m just here to shitpost. Imagine taking this place or the internet seriously. I’m just excited to get my xpro2 and warn others film and large cameras.
>>4517708>i made a mistake and need to shitpost to feel better about itJust the latest in a string of purchases, each one definitely the camera unlike the lastPeople like you dont realize it but you get bored with photography. It’s not the camera. People who enjoy photography still take their D850 out daily.
>>4517709I don’t see the mistake when I rarely used the camera I had. I gave up the photographer dreams long ago and just want a system that I actually use.is that so bad. Also no one uses a dslr anymore
>>4517710> I gave up the photographer dreams long agoYeah it showsHappy people don’t have to post purchase cope about how their old camera is bad and the one they just ordered is good on /p/. An xpro3 is still roughly the same size as a sony a7iv with small primes. Not too far off from a canon r8 or nikon zf either. You’re still another purchase or two away from realizing you don’t like doing photography more than you dislike carrying a camera anymore. You’re not the first or the last person to go down this melodramatic road.
>>4517704The thing I always wonder about bringing small cameras places you wouldn't want to bring bigger cameras is what worthwhile picture are you hoping to take and where? Are you really going to take a world class photo walking down the street or on a hike? I get that it's nice and convenient and fun to just have a little camera to snap around with, but if I'm doing "serious" photography I am not bothered by larger cameras because I bring the best tools I can at any cost because it enables me to produce the best images I can.
>>4517711>down this melodramatic road*on /p/for that matter. /m43/ was basically just that. >i dont miss the nice camera i used to love at all. this cheaper lower end one is totally just as good. actually photography is gay cya. -/m43/

I didn’t say all other cameras are bad though, just that there is a trap with film and larger formats that I personally fell into which meant I took less photos, got less practice, and fell out of it. It’s a hobby though which waxes and wanes. I’ll say the Ricoh griii is really cool though and I never thought I’d think a p&s would be worth anything

>>4517717I think you're intentionally missing my point. Answer my question please.Personally I don't think the trap is about camera size or format it's about your own shortcomings as a photographer. Choosing the wrong tool for the job is not the tools fault. It is your fault for choosing it.
>>4517729I clearly stated I was fixated on medium format sized sensors, so yea I didn’t understand my own personal needs for a camera. It’s still an amazing machine that I will be sad to sell but I just don’t use it much.

>>4517785That’s not true at all. A lot of people, most people actually, just buy the best camera they can get once and keep it until it breaks. Yes, even “serious photographers”. Even PROFESSIONAL photographers. Most I know are literally waiting for their 5div to break and have an og eos r6 used exclusively for video, or started recently and have two sony a7iiis. 99/100 real life people do not give a fuck about gear, just buy whats obviously good and keep it, and do not do this swap and shop shit with the associated drama and cope about how this time you bought the best camera and your old one was a scam for retards once adjusted for equivalence, instagram, and deep dives into the mtf chart ratios of collected cfa photons. That is very much a 4chan, reddit, and forum thing for autistic genetic dead ends. Digital cameras are appliances. If you are art sperging, the majority of art was, is, and always will be shot on film. If you think an extra 20mp is a game changer for you, well shot 35mm is already capable source material for detailed albeit grainy scans in excess of 200mp and all the artists have pentax 67s so… if there’s an upgrade that takes aesthetics to the next level it says kodak on the wrapper and costs $100 a frame to milk for peak quality because it’s a significant work of art and will be displayed in a gallery and sold for thousands.
>>4517794a major aspect of film is that every shot is guaranteed to be real and unique, every print is unique, and the entire process involves craftsmanship. the human element and scarcity give even half frame shots value that a 100mp fujigfx100.raf can never havedigislugs sperging, coping, swapping, and shopping looks petty when compared to film’s greatness

While MF and larger formats can give something nice and specific, it really doesn't matter if they are dogs pics or some shit. im just realizing what matters and what doesn't. For me, i'd rather be taking photos more often and a GFX is a bit large for me to want to do that. Its not even the body size so much as the lens size that really affects it.I realize that you dont need an MF camera to make good 2ft x 3ft prints which is probably as big as I'll ever go.
>>4517823>You in 2 months:>old aps-c is a sham. i missed out on so many photos because the ISO didnt go high enough or the autofocus was too slow. i finally came to my senses and got a sony a7c. i’m done disappointing my friends and family declining to take photos an old larp camera can’t nail reliably. oh, and the weather sealing is working great. >or>aps-COPE is more like it. this fuji xpro is a huge clunky junker. i switched to an OM system OM-5II. some professionals use it and it looks fine. actually, its sharper and modern denoise makes it look better than my fuji ever did. the autofocus is better, my lenses are cheaper, and it goes everywhere with me and into weather fuji can’t handle. you are all fools for using FOOL frame. >or>fuji mirrorless… eventually, I grew up and got a DSLR. bottom price. peak performance. i’ll shoot in a warzone, i dont care, a replacement camera is $250. and everyone thinks its cool because its old. You’re not the first blogposting gearfag here or the last. There’s a dozen a year and they all did what you’re doing now several times before quitting photography. Stop gearfagging while you have the chance. Your habit does not have an end point. You’ll just keep camera shopping whenever you get bored. You never had a reason to sell your last camera unless you couldn’t actually afford it in the first place and were trying to impress 4chan when you bought it (sadly, this is also common here) and are now trying to save face under the assumption someone recognizes you (yes this happens to, its why we have *fags who maintain identities)
I don’t think 4chan/reddit people actually understand how abnormal they are. their tendency to constantly buy and sell gear while trying to justify each choice as the best choice, even if it’s objectively a downgrade, is bizarre. It’s easiest to interpret as running out of money without wanting to admit to it… except when they quickly shift to a huge upgrade or multi-camera kit. The people with walls of electric guitars or golf clubs they don’t use anymore are actually more common.

As non-professionals it's all about the emotions. When shooting, when holding the camera, when editing photos and of course later when looking at them. Remembering that moment in the past. Started with fuji apsc and at some point when to full frame. First the A7IV and from there I tried to find the same pleasure I had with the Fujis. Tried several brands and always ended up not enjoying the camera all that much. But it's really difficult to go back to apsc image quality when used to full frame. It's like a massive downgrade. I compare raw files in LR and full frame looks so alive, crisp, so much detail. I'm so close to just sell all my FF gear (currently the Zf with lenses) and just go X-E5 with those qt crons. Or wait for x-Pro4. But I'm always too afraid that I miss the details I get from FF. Also I think Fujifilm (and Leica) are the only ones with good product designers. Their cameras look beautiful. Something you can have around your neck without looking like a creep. And they bring much more joy when using. Of course a Canon might be the best ergonomical solution but god damn they are ugly.
>>4517934At this point if you want Fuji design but don't want anything less than full frame, you know what to do. The 50MP GFX cams are pretty similar to FF prices these days and while they don't really look better than FF like the GFX 100s do, at least they aren't worse.
>>4517935All the 50s are bad for video unfortunately. And I do 50/50 hybrid. Wish they would make a new 50R with modern AFand something like 4k/30 without much rolling shutter.

>>4518442Have you used the Mark II?
>finally made the switch from APS-C to FF yesterdayI haven't had the chance to do some proper shooting with it yet. It's kinda neat looking through all my vintage lenses with it and seeing a wider FOV, it almost feels like all my lenses are new again. This'll take some getting used to.
>>4519186Happy days; what system?
>>4519188A used a7 iiiIt's not the newest or the flashiest but it's what I can afford. Until now I'd been using an a6000, so some of the features in the a7 iii may as well be alien space technology compared to what I'm used to. The a6000 was a fun little camera and really helped me with grasping photography fundamentals but I was starting to push up against its many limitations, particularly in low light situations or astrophotography.
>>4519192The E-mount would be a lot more compelling if they'd make a full frame camera in the styling of the NEX series.
>>4519194The a7c is kind of close in styling and form factor, just with more dials and buttons.
>>4519192A7III is goated. If you are doing a lot of low light or astro, I hope you have got good lenses!
>>4519198It's thick with a giant grip that despoils its otherwise limited size.
>>4519202https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_lightest_mirrorless_camerasLooking at this wiki article it would appear that unless you go and buy a Sigma then I doubt you're ever going to find a full-frame with the same depth dimensions as the NEX series.
>>4519203The S9 would be it if they gave it a viewfinder.
>>4519205I was going to say get an aftermarket EVF but then I read a bit more about it>no hotshoewtf were they thinking? The more I read about the S9 the more I'm questioning why it exists; I get that they stripped it of a lot of features because its target demographic is primarily """content""" creators but it sounds like it doesn't even do that particularly well. Just lots of weird design choices all around.
>>4519194>>4519205The NEX cameras were styled with grips about the same size as the A7C's though. All of them have super dinky grips, which, while better than having no grip like the S9, really could use a normal size given the fact that the lens is going to add a lot of bulk anyway. Now if you are talking about an NEX sized full frame, they'd have to forgo video which I would be perfectly fine with even though the retards at dpreview think adding video has no bearing to cameras.
>>4519202meant to reply with>>4519214The A7C is not thick compared to the S9 and it does not have a giant grip if you are interested "in the styling of the NEX series"The original A7 cameras were pretty thin but people complained about battery life and occasional overheating, probably videofags.
>>4519194>The E-mount would be a lot more compelling if they'd make a full frame camera in the styling of the NEX series.I really dont understand why they cant do a real a7c in the size of the original NEX bodies. I guess not having any small FF lenses has something to do with it.
>>4519235Is there ever a point a camera would be too small for you?
>>4519214>>4519235I use an A5000 with the 18-135 kit on it, bought for my missus but she only uses her phone now. Its a dinky little thing, great for wondering around, but the screen is tiny and the focus gets confused. Changing settings is a pain.Used it for astro with a vintage lens and a tracker but gave up trying to sequence shots, so purchased a Canon ASP-C. Ergonomics are night and day different and as much as I like the Sony, its too small for anything that requires quick adjustment of settings. Was playing around with a friends A7iii recently. Ok but prefer Canon ergonomics.
>>4519214personally i wouldnt be able to own a camera without an actual pasm dial; i like the nikon z30 for that reason
>>4519235They could but I think the Sony plan is super compact APS-C with crappy pancakes (although the 20mm pancake is still pricey and not anything to write home about optically) and FF is supposed to be the "pro" expensive step up so their small lenses like the 40mm and 50mm G cost a lot and aren't pancakes but are a lot sharper than the Nikon or Panasonic pancakes. Viltrox has their 26mm f/2.8 pancake for FF e-mount now which I think is going to do well because a lot of FF e-mount users actually don't care too much about wide open sharpness and would be happy with a more compact setup. But of course pixel peepers like to trash small lenses because of their optical compromises. It took a long time for me to get around to using the 16-50mm kit lens on APS-C or the 28-60mm kit lens on FF because everyone was trashing them. Sure there is something special about pixel peeping on a good prime or big heavy zoom but sometimes convenience is just nicer.
>>4519268I like the 16-50 kit lens, it weighs like a pancake that's why it's my go to travel lens.
>>4519210>wtf were they thinking? As far as I can tell, they weren't.That or they made it out of spite. The most generous interpretation is that they cheapened it to serve as a test bed for the form factor and will improve on its successor.
>>4519216>The original A7 cameras were pretty thinThey were.Too bad they were shit, aside from the A7S, due to plastic mounts and gimped shutter mechs.
>>4519252If there is; they haven't made it.A full frame camera the size of the PowerShot D30 would be a dream.
>>4517696I like to shoot in the dark and without flash so FF is my way to go. In a studio setting or in daylight, APSC is sufficient, not Fuji though: sub par AF and demosaicing. Ricoh is just perfect in that regard.
>>4519252NEX-5 size is pretty much perfect(about half the size and weight of the a7c bodies). a7c is just too big.
>>4519327The original A7 was fine given that it was the first FF interchangeable mirrorless camera. It'd be trivial for them to do update it but they won't since people seem to be happy with the A7C which is the same size as the S9 (which is an absolute shitshow >>4519326) with the dinky NEX grip you like.
>>4519367>The original A7 was fine given that it was the first FF interchangeable mirrorless cameraHow does that excuse throwing out decades of material science and camera design?
>>4519340GR has absolute shit AF, probably worse than Fuji if such a thing is possible. But it is the most compact setup you can get for the sensor size. It's interesting that full frame film compacts could get pretty small and no one, even Ricoh themselves, has been able to replicate the film GR size in full frame. Pentax seem fine with doing weird cameras and I can't think of a technical reason now that sensors have microlenses and BSI.>>4519265Not a fan of PASM myself although it seems to be what Sony ended up adopting with the NEX-6 and 6000 series. Strange reason to specifically pick the z30 since pretty much every mirrorless camera has PASM these days.>>4519344I'd be happy if Sony did an update of the NEX-5 just for APS-C. There is no FF pancake in any system that comes close to the 20mm APS-C pancake size although I would want a viewfinder and flash and would be willing to live with a tiny screen to keep the dimensions.
>>4519371the zve10 i bought and kept for a short time didnt have pasm, while the z30 did. im just saying i would've been happier with the z30. plus theyre cheap...$400 refurb from nikon at one point with the kit lens (now like $600)
>>4519369Design flaws aren't uncommon even for things that should have been solved (oily shutters, foam gaskets, sensor rusting) because some engineer screwed up. Someone makes a metal replacement for the plastic shim for the A7 which would be a pretty cheap fix for any ebay camera with that issue. Granted they fixed that with later versions but none of those are as thin.
>>4519373no that's fair and that is a great deal. The ZV series are Sony's video focused "vlogging" type cameras and they don't have a PASM dial and some other photo oriented features. The rest do.
