Ew. OM makes good optics. Don't associate them with any more panajunk let alone 徕卡. That's what killed them the first time.

>Hopefully he moves on to bigger sensors this time.

OM System employees said the E-M1X was originally supposed to be almost GFX-format, it's literally a M4/3 camera in a medium format body, but Olympus began to crumble at the same exact time the project was underway and they had already finished the chassis prototype and dual-processor board so to recoup costs they legitimately just stuck the E-M1 III sensor in and tried to make back the money spent on it

as far as sources go, the E-M1X medium format project never actually stopped though, https://www.43rumors.com/ft3-om-digital-is-thinking-about-going-medium-format/

there's talks that OM System has been continuing to develop it for as long as the company has existed (5 years now?)
>>
>>4521229

True, it's just so surprising to see stuff like this happening these days, people who actually give a shit about their companies enough to spend likely hundreds of millions of dollars to rescue it from a patent troll and take the L just because they care about it

Sooo you want an 4:3 camera with digital MF sensor size which is made by the same company that got venture-capital'd into releasing the same camera/lens combo several times in a row because they can't justify RnD costs?
Brudduh you understand if they actually made it they would be charging phase-one money for it right? So you're saying you would (and could) buy a Phase One right now but don't because it's 3:2 and not 4:3?
>>
>>4521330
You don't get how cheap passion project companies can go with loss leaders

If you assume videographers can go fuck themselves and buy a camcorder and 100mp is already enough, all 4:3 medium format uses OLD off the shelf sony sensors. They could undercut the fuji GFX easily the same way Nikon undercuts everyone else, selling basically highly improved A7IIIs (Z5II/ZF) for less than fuji sells significantly worse aps-c shitters.

>Brudduh you understand if they actually made it they would be charging phase-one money for it right? So you're saying you would (and could) buy a Phase One right now

Honestly.... Yeah?
The appeal for Olympus/OM to me is the weather sealing, it's the best in the market with the exception of Leica except Leica doesn't seal their lenses as well as their bodies when OM does, I shoot exclusively in third world warzones and in countries with weather so fucking shit that sandstorms and rainstorms basically annihilate the earth every year
I've seen pro body D850s die in situations 1/3 as bad as the ones I shoot in
I've always wanted to go medium format but GFX/Hasselblad is just never going to survive in my case and that's the harsh reality, I can't keep using weather bags and covers because in the right situation it almost always looks like a concealed weapon cover the police use in rain and I get immediately arrested (has happened before)
I would honestly be the prime audience for an Olympus/OM medium format camera - would buy it in day 1 I think even if I have to take out a loan

Why? Because they BTFO jordanians and egyptians that were illegally occupying the jewish homeland? For what retarded reason? Do you know anything about the history of the region? "Palestine" was never a country people or culture, it was an administrative region that was occupied by diaspora from surrounding levantine countries with very few ancient groups (most of which are Jewish). What you know as palestine is the muslim claim to palestine, not a unique oppressed country like tibet.

"palestine" (occupying islamic crusaders) refused and blew up some civilians.
https://www.politico.com/story/2016/05/bill-clinton-palestinians-israel-223176

At this point anyone telling you to care about a genocide in palestine is making shit up to cover for actual genocides in tibet, xinjiang, and occupied ukraine. There was never a genocide in palestine. Occupying jordians and egyptians lost some wars.

Oh, and don't forget to boycott the entire first world. Every advanced country has crossed some lines in war. Boycott the third world too. They do fucked up shit daily.

Olympus is basically sony’s PNS division so its green tinted. They pay shills so you dont notice.

Buy a panasonic G9II. It uses a nonsony sensor. Also, panasonic’s 100-400 is sharper cheaper and lighter. Olympus is overpriced.
>>
>>4524029
M4/3 is basically only useful for wildlife photography IMO. It just makes sense and works the most comfy when in the field. I have to often spend the night in the field because I shoot crepuscular or nocturnal animals that I can only see at dusk and dawn and I need to be already in the location I want to be at when dawn breaks. This means I need to carry a tent and sleeping bag and enough food and water to last that long. Space and weight are at a premium. I prefer to shoot with a few prime lenses and teleconverters rather than a single zoom and only M4/3 would let me bring all that and not have it take up too much space. It's also good to have the weather sealing for stuff like condensation in the tent or rain. The good IBIS and autofocus on the modern olympus cameras make them a dream to shoot. I am eyeing the OM-1 as my next upgrade.
>>
Thank you anons.

stumbled upon him myself today and watched it. He seems positive compared to what I've been reading but he does seem genuine and what he shows makes sense to me.
>>4524139
That was another one I researched. From what I understand the af may be marginally to considerably poorer on it than on om1.2. Anyway, I have no way to check. No place to rent either.
>>4524149
Interesting. And the supposedly poorer lowlight performance doesn't bother you? Or are you shooting for research mostly and don't care?
My preferred way of photo outing is grab and go. I don't go on overnight trips but I do like to walk/hike and often would do 15-20 km a day. My current setup isn't heavy in terms of handholding, but it does get annoying enough towards the end to make me reconsider bringing it.

Om is tempting me yet again with the discounts and a free MC20 (apparently, on their official website) with a 50-200 lens.
What stops me somewhat is the upcoming sept 9th anouncement. Could it be om1.3 or another body with a new sensor?
>>
>>4524150
I've never had a problem with low light. I use mostly the 200 f2.8, it lets in plenty of light even with the 2x teleconverter. I do have to crank the ISO sometimes, but then the noise you get is comparable to full frame with a 2x crop, and denoising is one of the things AI is actually good at these days. The only real drawback is slightly worse dynamic range. Subtle shadows in the details can be a little underexposed, but honestly it's a tradeoff I'm willing to make.

I sold all my heavy Nikon Z stuff, except Z6II and a 85mm f1.8s for the occasional BOKEH portrait. I now rock an OM-5II with a shitload of different lenses. It really makes a difference. Taking my OM5 with me is a no brainer. I can just casually carry it around on a walk. I couldn't do that with my Z8 and whatever huge lens was attached to it.
Recently took my kid to a walk around the lake and packed my OM5 and 40-150 f4. Didn't even notice it and made a bunch of nice photos. Sure they might have come out marginally better on the Z8 but I wouldn't have taken the Z8 in the first place.
Just get your feet wet with an OM body and a lens and see if it's for you. Then you can still decide to sell the Nikon stuff.

>>
>>4524150

NTA.
it's only an issue if you need fast shutter speeds at low light. the superb IBIS (and sync IS in longer lenses) makes up for a lot with subjects that don't need 1/1000s etc.
also AI denoise is really great nowadays. nothing like the "wash out plastic wax" shit from a few years ago

Fuji IBIS is fine, and ergonomics are better that OM (no PASM, aperture ring on lenses, more dials on the body). Snoy a6700 is probably pretty good as well especially if you are colorblind. Now, Nikon is rumored to release a new APS-C camera soon, let's see if it's a blob or they make it compact.

I'm almost ready to take the plunge. Two things stopping.

Rumor on DPReview (I wish jannies banned for mentioning that place) is that it's an OM-1X.

Otherwise, I'm wondering if a high-res APS-C (Fuji or Canon R7 or maybe the supposed upcoming Nikon body) makes more sense now. You can carry the same focal length as m43, crop, and get the same IQ as m43.

Ok, one thing I cannot agree with is how Nikon is using a plastic bayonet on a bunch of DX lenses. I perceive it as an insult. Like, cmon, cannot they splurge a $1 for a piece of chinesium on a lens that costs upwards of $500?
>>
>>4524363
I pretty much arrived to the same conclusion after researching field pixel per subject outputs at different length in different light and the comparing the weight of the rigs.
The ideal is an apsc around 35-40mp, stacked sensor, the works, pre capture. One stop - ish worse iso than FF on average that gets compensated by lighter lenses at 1.6 reach.
Fullframe is basically not needed if such a combo existed. As well as m43.
For wildlife ofc.

Took an OM1-2 + 40-150F4 to test for a day. Haven't commited yet but the results are pleasantly surprising.
1. Detail is fine as long as you don't go by the "m43->2x FF magnifikashun" meme and try to fill the frame. You get around 1.3 focus distance leeway if you want pixel-on-the-subject parity at distance.
2. ISO 6400 is fine in terms of manageable noise. Blacks suffer. So exposing to the right helps a bit. FF can do that too. Physics is a bitch.
3. What helps with two is the lenses are lighter and more handholdable for lower shutter speeds and you generally work with more open aperture too. That partially compensates my second point.
4. Nikon's AF is better. Sticks better, faster. But OM's AF and detection are no slouches too.

Oerall a very nice camera, portability is what makes it shine really.

Disappointment.
There's still a chance the rumour is just a clickbait tho.

Pen with EVF, smaller than L10, with m4/3 mount as opposed to fixed lens is going to be a smash hit.

Oh cmon now.

Itll cost more than an a7cII or zf and we will hear endless shill coping anyways

Some fat ladies and malaysians will make dishonest youtube videos
five birdwatching boomers will buy it
The canon r8ii will outsell the whole brand

You'll get another top dial a year later in a upgraded version :^)
Let's be happy that there's a new compact body and wait for the release.
>>
>>4524860
I will never understand the fawning over an abundance of tertiary features when the bread & butter technology is so ass.
It 100% will cost more than the affordable full-frame offerings from actual camera manufacturers but because it's a little bit lighter and has a couple rubber gaskets this board strokes their cocks over it.
Like actually just go buy an R8 or Z5/Zf and get nicer photos. Isn't that the whole point of owning a camera? The photos?

You MFTards are actual specsheet-grade faggots.
>>
>>4524866
The current E-P7 is not "a bit" lighter, it just doesn't compare to other current ILCs once you actually get to hold it. The issue is that yes, it has visibly worse IQ compared to APS-C and because it's also an entry level and relatively old model, it doesn't have anything else to redeem it.

Compared to other crop junk like the foolji xe5, uh, lol. Like 100g who cares? a straight photo quality-rainproofing tradeoff between the two silver plastic brands is not enough anymore.

Ergonomics is not adequately described by numbers. You need to try both to see the difference. You may say you don't care, but then this type of camera is just not for you. Others buy stuff like X100, so there's a demand.

But then again, comparing what comes out of m43 to APS-C, I'm not buying anything from OM either until they do something with the sensor.

Compared to PEN-F?
No exposure comp dial but it still has a rear thumb dial.
>>
>>4524903
Yes, but also compared to all other bodies they are replacing a proper top dial with a tiny piece of crap.
>>
>>4524886
Ergonomics as a term was invented for accommodating the elderly and disabled and reducing work related injuries particularly among the weaker people

Whenever you say ergonomics you’re basically saying you’re weak, injured, disabled, or old and your opinions going forward are nonsense for an average able bodied male, 6ft 180lb aged 20-60

I have an idea. OM should have a real internal filter (like the ND on X100VI), but make it interchangeable, where you'd buy proprietary filters from OM.
>>
>>4524909
A recessed rear dial like that can be made clickable.
I would use that to switch the dial between shutter speed and ISO.
>>
>>4524915
Yeah, Fuji bodies have two of those. They are made like trash and you accidentally press and turn them.

>No. Do not show interest in the new PEN. Do not buy the new PEN. OM is not a popular brand. Canon is the most popular brand. OM sensor is small. Canon sensor is big. Buy Canon.
>>
>>4524916
Yeah, too easily clicked would be a pain. I have a clickable wheel on my lumix and I forget it's clickable because I don't use the click. I have never unintentionally clicked it and use the wheel all the time.

Maybe not while consciously using the dial itself, rather while handling the camera.

Unflattering. If you used a canon 5DII this would be better because of the AA filter, vintage lens rendering, and filmic color science. Mirrorless makes womens skin look bad without pro level retouching. And the harsh bokeh cutoff looks like an iphone.

many are saying this

Many people make the mistake of viewing their micro four thirds photos too large

You see, TWO micro four thirds megapixels are equal to one full frame megapixel, so a 20mp olympus is actually just 10mp, just over 3500 pixels wide. This also applies to APS-C, but with a 1.5 to 1 relationship. If using xtrans, it’s actually 1.9 to 1 so micro four thirds basically = smaller better fuji.
>>
>>4525056
Can confirm, my om5 and D700 take similar photos (both green tinted too) and so do my xt5 and 5DIII (but the 5DIII has much better color science and highlight recovery at the cost of less shadow recovery, because man was not meant to peer into the shadows)

Whats your proof? A dpreview screenshot or an auto mode snapshit of your dog?

FF could as well be a stop better, I don't have an FF body. M43 sensors are not only small, but also outdated.

If you're wet it's probably due to bad weather sealing, you should get that looked at anon
