Highlights are blown but that's not always bad or possible to prevent so don't worry about this too much for now. In digital photography you generally expose to protect the highlights because you can always boost shadows in post later but blown highlights are mostly unrecoverable.My first advice would be to get yourself a wrist strap and not a neck strap and go out and shoot. Check out famous photographers and their portfolios for some inspiration but don't try to blindly copy their style. Try to apply rule of thirds where it fits but remember that those "rules" are actually only suggestions and nobody will call the cops on you if you break them. Shoot for yourself and enjoy it. Never crave attention or approval online because vile nophoto fuckers will always shit on you no matter what.

This way you get foreground, subject and background in your wide angle photographs. Layering is another technique that makes wide angle photos more appealing. This means shooting in such a way to get something in your frame that is close and out of focus as foreground, then further away your subject and then background.For portraits you can't get too close because of wide angle lens distortion will make faces look weird. This is all you need right now. Enjoy photography.
