Never posted on this board before so sorry if something is wrong.Never owned a camera before, only taken pictures with my phoneDecided to splurge on an om-3 kit with a standard lense and a seperate long distance lense. What does /p/ think about my photos? Dont think 4chan will keep the original 4k quality and i would have to compress it so i made an album here https://imgur.com/a/rQb6g3Z
Im a complete beginner and i usually like to take photos of either distance horizons usually squeezed between two similar things (like one tree on each side to frame a scene) or animals. If anyone could give me some good settings or tips for the om-3 and keep in mind i know no terminology, i would be really greatful
>>4531070>lenseYou're a regular just baiting
>>4531078No, im not english? If its misspelled im sorry.
>>45310701st things 1st use the filtershttps://pastebin.com/diHque732nd there are a lot of green tinted and painfully neutral and cool pictures. This is common on olympus. Change your auto white balance to have a +1 magenta +2 warm bias in the menus. Maybe increase saturation also.3rd sell that POS it costs as much as a full frame sony for the same pictures taken by an $800 OM-5. Shekel efficiency is everything.
>>4531070Micro four thirds looks awful outside of test charts huh…Return it and buy a nikon z5iic
>>45310811. Uh????2. I kind of like neutral and unfiltered. I mean strictly in terms of better focus/details. Filters are just trash, im sick of em after seeing them for 10 years on instagram. But ill keep that in mind3. Hell nah, i love my camera, it has good qualities and survives well when i go bouldering or hiking and the wether is not optimal. I also got it for the equivalent of a thousand dollars less than i would have to pay for it in my country
>>4531082Idk what any of that means. But if you are talking about my thread picture, it was taken wirh a samsung phone
Thanks for making a photo thread, we actually are in dire need of those. I'm gonna take a look at your photos, but could you please post them here? Makes it much easier to take a look and comment. My first comment would be, it seem like those were taken during a cloudy around noon, which makes the colors a little sad. Additionally, for example for the photo with the bird of prey, it would be better if the sky was a bit more interesting than plain grey. I think your tiger photo is cool, because he's isolated from the background, facing towards the camera, and had some kind of expression. Photos of zoo animal can be boring pretty quick because everyone has seen those. So, you need to make sure there's some interest in the picture, one way to do that is to watch the behavior of the animals and take photos were they are expressive. Probably you'll need a zoom to get closer shots of their faces.
Also there's a lot of schizos like this guy here >>4531081, pay them no mind and they will return to the gear thread.
>>4531088Yeah, sorry. Im gonna try that.Anyway, the bird photo was taken this way because that section of the japanese beach was sectioned off and i had yet to buy a long distance lens its also during rain season in july and its been pouring down all day. The tiger is from a zoo in norway at max zoom, hes standing about 12-15m away and up on a rock cliff. I think the max for that long distance lens is 125mm.Thank you for the feedback, its invaluable!.
>>4531089I see, thanks
>>4531088Give me an hour or two and i can compress them on my pc and post in the thread but im not home right now
>>45310831. Uh???Just follow the guide use those filters. There are a lot disinfo bots and brand fanboy nerds on /p/ that exist just to drive people away from and towards different brands, usually by making up technobabble and putting other peoples tests out of context. If everyone uses those filters, they leave. They repost the same images and terms constantly and make a new gear thread every 300 posts to keep their "advertisements" on the front page. Quite sad really.2. Bro your tiger is a bit green https://i.imgur.com/9G9bCd7.jpeg. Here's how it looks like with a little less green.3. w/e it's your moneyOlympus has had a mild green tint problem for 10 years. I don't know why they haven't made the default setting better. I think it might have to do with daylight looking different in japan.https://learning.omsystem.com/OM-3/zz_html_manual/en/wb_fine_adjustments_134.htmlYou should only need a little bit towards magenta on the green-magenta axis and a little more amber to have truly neutral colors.>>4531091He's lying to you.Follow the pastebin guide, use the filters. Bookmark them. I update them occasionally to hide brand fanboys and other people attempting to use /p/ for advertising purposes. The only people mad about this are the weirdo geeks and possible paid advertisers who are mad that people can't see their disinfo/advertisement posts anymore.A lot of regular users have already left because these few people have the same arguments with themselves over and over again. There are literally 13 copies of the gear thread up right now from them doing this.
>>4531091BS. The filter guide is invaluable and none of the blocked posters even do photography. They had months to prove they owned cameras and they kept saying the government would get them (are they breaking some law or what?)
You could've gone full frame for the same money and got much better quality photos. Also, zoos are cruel and so is paying for or going to them
>>4531100This guy prefers starving and being eaten by lions to paying taxes and obeying the law
>>4531100I see. Well i got it super cheap, brand new and on sale in japan for the full kit
>>4531095Why should anyone let you censor what they get to see?
>>4531105There are no sales on new gear.
>>4531108Sorry, but as many people as possible will be filtering your reposted gearfag arguments until moderator intervention is made.13 gear threads are currently on the catalog. All of them are the same 4 people having the exact same argument over and over again refusing to learn anything because the "argument" is actually different fanboys of different camera brands trying to make shit up and prove each others brands are "bad". None of them are capable of proving that they take photos or even own a camera.Every new user who asks a question here will be given the filter guide. I will update the filter guide every time I check /p/. Deal with it.
>>4531116You are the new barneyfag and you'll end up rangebanned just like him
>4531117>nooo not my reposted anti-*brand*/pro-*brand* propaganda nooooSeethe moar
>>4531109Yes there is retard, frequently too. Its cslled bic camera, yodobashi. Look it up
>>4531121Sale + taxfree + cheaper yen meant i ended up paying the equivalent of 1.4k usd for the camera, 12 to 45mm lens and some small accessories
>>4531122Oh and discount
Anyway i just wanted to discuss photography, why stupid stuff like brands brought up?
>>4531137because your tiger was green tinted
>>4531137Because the filtersperg is a butthurt sonygger /v/ermin. The only filters we should be talking about are the kind that go between the focal plane and the scene. You just brought a brand new camera and are already using it and the retard's first idea is to sell it, kek. He wants you to have buyer's remorse because it's a camera that won't help Capture One sales as it doesn't have design defects that require being covered up by it.
>>4531137People are trying to warn you about being lied to, because there are some deranged autistic people who will pile onto you and try and feed you lies, running their own little marketing campaigns. That tripfag there is one such person. I won't even go into why he's wrong. A lot of people have tried to educate him but he just keeps repeating the same thing.Definitely use the filter guide. It makes /p/ tolerable.
>>4531151>PeopleThat's just you. Now I realize it's all a bit you're doing though. Soon you'll be joined in the stupidity by people doing it in earnest though.
>>4531145He said to get an om5 because its less>shekelsFor the same camera
>>4531081Based filterchad making the gearfags melt down
>>4531159Sure, after he bought it. In Japan. It's losing money for no benefit. The ship has sailed.

I am aware this is 1-2 mentally ill people spamming but still, it's the first time I see an attempt at photo thread being trashed like this. The gearfags have won. Sorry OP.

>>4531081>>4531094>shares filters to block gearfags and white balance tip>causes massive seetheBased
>>4531217You're dishonest and your filterspam is worse, and you tried to give OP buyer's remorse in the same post because you don't personally approve of his gear. Who the fuck do you think you are? You're less than nobody
>>4531217>>4531220Samefag
>>4531214Go to fgt it's based
>>4531221You're not replying to me and you sound angry that your shill campaign is on the filter list>noooo you told op that the om-3 performs the same as a cheaper camera how dare youDude, olympus is a scumbag company with a horrid lineup and worse pricing practices. Buyers remorse is inevitable with them. Get over it.The fact that he basically got it for om5 prices is a huge win in his favor. $1400 with a zoom worth $400 is a based price. There are no full frame cameras worth using without compromises under $1500ish.
>>4531413>without compromisesEvery camera is a compromise even if price is no object. The question is what is being compromised.
>>4531081Moop, shouldn't you worry about your ikea cork desk rotting to shit from the fungus instead of shitting up other people's threads? Get a life holy shit
>they brought back blaming moopwho knew a list of regular regex expressions would literally drive you /p/oppets insane
>>4531437You fool no one welfare leech. Sony+Fuji+capture one+seething at MFT... Who can it be now?
>>4531412i'm already there but I try to encourage photo threads :(
God damn, OP HERE. can you all please take this somewhere else?
>>4531488 (checked and heil'd)We can try, but please understand there's a very mentally ill British man who has targeted your thread. This guy >>4531081He's been at it for years now and won't let go. He can't drive because of his illness and leechs off welfare, but apparently parts of it are faked because they took away his transportation pass.Still a very bitter individual whose first instinct was to concern troll you.Pic related, his finest work.
>>4531488you have to post photos. they will leave because seeing photos remind them that they are wasting their life spamming a dead forum about equipment for a hobby they don't practice. I am not joking, do it.
>>4531488also, they are genuinely mentally ill. if you interact you will only get more insane drivel. the only solution to shield your thread is to post photos and discuss photography.
>>4531488Also what the fuck is this? Some weird donkey/kangaroo/hare/capybara hybrid?
>>4531494Not even that is enough to deter Moop. You see, Moop is immune to all dangers. One may call him a schizo, talentless hack, gearfag, parasite, faggot, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call out his name and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I’ve been found out".
>>4531070Some tips, first more specific then more general:Get your camera lower to the ground. When framing a photo, look at what's behind your subject. Try to unclutter and emphasize the subject by framing carefully. This would make a lot of your photos stronger immediately.Look up composition rules (they're all ways to create balance in an image) and study great photos and art. They are all well balanced. Use thumbnails to evaluate balance and impact; you should be able to see these things zoomed way out. A lot of landscape photos really suck when viewed small, but great landscape photos pass easily.Don't pay mind to people who criticize things like sharpness at 200% or who talk about gear. Gear is a different hobby than photography. You should be experimenting all the time when you're out. Try different angles, shoot into the light, get down low or raise the camera above your head.
>>4531502Meant to post this as an example of a great landscape photo thumbnail. It has plenty of impact: Ansel used his photographer's eye in the field and extensive editing techniques in the darkroom to achieve this.
>>4531488Have you fixed your green tint yet?>>4531502>Don't pay mind to people who criticize things like sharpness at 200%No, you should 100% care about taking your photos properly and not blurring them unintentionally. Only blur your photos intentionally. Garry Winogrand for example prioritized sharp photos so much he would always shoot at f/11 1/500-1/1000 and push (overcook) his film as needed to fix exposure.>A lot of landscape photos really suck when viewed small, but great landscape photos pass easily. And stephen shore and william eggleston built their careers on making stunning large prints people could explore instead of formal composiitons.Don't let taking a contrarian position in a gear argument ruin your approach to photography, just because someone on the internet told you their $350 canikon 5d800 took higher resolution photos than your $3500 fujisonic xt90ii and called you "sucka".
>>4531503copying ansel adams is like copying renaissance era portraits of royalty and greco-roman columns (and the people who call each "the REAL art" are pretty much the exact same retards)it's boring, and AI can do itforms should be learnt, but abstracted and rules should broken while being followed, to produce interesting photography
>>4531495Cinefag out here asking the real questions.
>>4531495Looks like a wallaby that spends Sunday arvo sinking tinnies
>>4531539I don't think we disagree. My point is after you learn to take decently sharp photos worrying about gear and technical perfection is a waste of time. A D40 is sufficient for good/real photography. Also Shore and Eggleston have fantastic compositions, are you blind? Printing large to get around poor photography is NOT what they were about. Their thumbnails read great.
>>4531792shore's don't desu>A D40 is sufficient for good/real photographybut people still use better cameras for a reason, and always have. 35mm film is significantly better than a d40.
