Theme: Autumn

All photos must be taken during the current challenge month. No old or archived shots.
Get creative and enjoy the process. Unique perspectives are encouraged!

Good thread though. I'll try to get some autumn themed shots but with current weather idk if I'll be able to create anything worthwhile.

Posting a photo. Literally unfathomable for most people on this board. Making it fit a theme adds another layer of difficulty.

I really dislike that showing season narrows down your latitude and then the tree species if you include leafs narrows down your longitude a lot. It forces you to post foreign species to preserve some degree of anonymity. Even then a while ago someone said I was in Palmstranden lol. It was wrong but shows the desire to lift the veil of anonymity.

The kind of selfish ad-hoc thinking I'd expect from a burger caught in a position he didn't plan for. How will any Australian user contribute a photo taken this month of Autumn when in the southern hemisphere it's Spring?

I'd have liked it to be better, but what would you have done differently without scaring the squirrel off?
>>
>>4537432
>what would you have done differently without scaring the squirrel off?
Get lower. Crouch. Shooting from eye level is noob tier. Makes every photo look the same. Literally iPhone tier perspective.
Not shooting at ISO 12800 in the middle of a day and blowing out the highlights like crazy could help too.

>>
>>4537432
Literally a case of just get better gear.
You need a 400mm or something to actually capture the subject that you want.
>>
>>4537467
kek, would have more motion blur. do you even understand the technical faults in this photo?
>>
>>4537476
I mean, you need to learn the basics of operating your camera as well, duh.
And if you don't understand exposure, you are better off sticking to S-mode for quick animals like squirrels.
>>
>>4537478
It's obvious the focus was on his pet rabbit. That's why it's blown out.
>>
>>4537482
That's not why it's a bad photo, and you can underexpose a notch and fix the raw in post to avoid the clipping. But that would not have made it a good picture.
>>
>>4537547
It's exactly why he had problems. The focus was on the rabbit in the dark, leading the camera to meter overexposed blowing out the highlights and getting low shutter speed leading to the blur. I would have had it on spot tracking mode with aperture priority and raw image. Then when the squirrel wanted in the photo I would have taken my finger off the release, moved the camera over so the squirrel was in the spot, pressed half down so it tracks, then moved the camera back to frame in the rabbit, then release. That way it meters the bright side and get higher shutter speed and lower iso while leaving the rabbit in the dark which i can bring out in post. What happened to not having the right gear? what happened to that 400mm?

That's fair. This is my first digital camera after 10 years on film, and it doesn't have an EVF. Only had it for a week now, still getting used to composing on the screen.
>>
>>4537558
That would not have made a good photo.
And it's faster to just hold the exposure comp. and scroll.

That's flickr advice
>crouch! CROUCH! EYE LEVEL BAD!
>NEVER BLOW A HIGHLIGHT NEVER CRUSH A SHADOW
>USE A 400MM! ZOOMS RESULT IN BETTER COMPOSITION AND SUBJECT DETAIL!
Congratulations you are now google image search from taking "sharp water is a sign of an amateur photographer" tier advice

The photos as you posted them have character. If anything you should have blown the highlights more.
>>
>>4537432
There's literally nothing wrong with this except the squirrel isn't in focus and the composition is just a little off kilter (maybe would have angled the camera up and to the left a little idk)
>>

>he's been getting the same advice on flickr and still won't listen
oh no no no
>>
>>4537564
With film you expose for shadows because film handles blown highlights gracefully but loses detail in shadows easily.
With Digital cameras you expose for highlights and then boost shadows later if necessary because digital cameras can capture a lot of detail in shadows but can't handle blown highlights well.
If you don't know how to use your camera yet then set it to aperture priority and set ISO to auto. Adjust exposure with exposure compensation dial. Full manual mode is only worth it when you need maximum control and have lots of time like when shooting landscapes with a tripod.
>>4537568
>That's flickr advice
Fuck off retard.
>crouch! CROUCH! EYE LEVEL BAD!
For most photographs, yes. Shooting from different levels ads variety to photographs.
>NEVER BLOW A HIGHLIGHT NEVER CRUSH A SHADOW
I never said that. His pic is just an extreme example of how not to expose photos. Blown highlights in sources of light or clouds or reflections are absolutely fine. If used for artistic effect it's fine as well.
>USE A 400MM! ZOOMS RESULT IN BETTER COMPOSITION AND SUBJECT DETAIL!
That's retarded. Not sure what you're trying to say here. Take your meds.
Toxic retards ruining a good thread once again.

Yes. Every now and then an interesting photograph is posted. Most photography forums are full of boomers shooting the same pictures of nothing/birds. Reddit gets good photos sometimes but those are usually from paid photoshoots posted by pro photographers as an ad. /p/ would be pretty cool if not for rotten assholes like you.
