Is it ethical to photograph a tragedy, like a car accident or a house fire? What about a man being placed under arrest? Is it ethical to photograph that? These are all things that happen in public: is there some imperative that ought to restrain a man from taking a photo of such a situation? For my part, I do not find it unethical. I am a witness, and the camera is a tool of my testimony; and the people are hypocritical who talk down on the photographers who take such photos: for, in one breath, they censure taking photographs; but, in another, they tell all they saw to their friends. It is a double standard that, somehow, telling the tale is no burden for a man's conscience, but taking the photograph ought to be; but I am somewhat a cold and hard man. What do you think, anon? Is it right to photograph a tragedy?

If it's wrong to photograph something it is also wrong to look at it. Is it wrong to look at someone getting arrested?

Some zoomers set a bar on fire a few years ago. They just stood there recording it with their phones until they died. I remember seeing the video circulate around 4chan. Do you really want to be that guy, anon? Help, or get out of the way.

Seems like you're conflating ethics with social standards. Photographing some chimp getting cuffed is ethcial but will likely get you told to fuck right off by both the nig and the 5-0 at minimum. If you are ready to defend yourself (either through an argument or physically) then there's no barriers.

The ethical part comes into play when it's you holding your bazooka lens and crouching down like a sperg in the middle of the street while some guy bleeds out from a car crash because you don't know how to tie a tourniquet and would rather be a proxy a CCTV feed.
There's enough gutless women-minded people on the planet. Step up and be the kind of person worth being remembered by others, not the walking tripod with a student loan.

At no point of me ever holding a camera have I let that take priority over any actual scenario. I found myself doing CPR on a guy who collapsed at a race day and have zero photos of it because I'd rather BE somebody than WATCH others.

technically, it's journalism
physically, i don't want to be assaulted by homeless people so i don't photograph them unless they're actively committing crimes that need to be recorded
