>15 year old basic shitbox with 200k miles that will need thousands of dollars in repairs
>that'll be $10,000 PLUS tax PLUS tip, go- I mean guy
I don't get it: how tf are you supposed to just survive at this point? Cars like this used to cost $2000 10 years ago.

You aren't.

You don't buy those cars.
You go for actual shitboxes if you know how to do basic maintenance or you buy new.
Buying 10k-20k used cars is nigger-tier.

You have the toyota tax on it. Also thats a dealer you dont buy used from a dealer. Also that wouldnt be so high of milage for a camry. It would ride fine after a full inspection, overhaul, lube service, and tune up. Also meme flag 1pbtid
>>
>>535642192
>Also that wouldnt be so high of milage for a camry.
That's something people never think about when they buy cars, especially used ones.
The question isn't "how high of a mileage does it have?" but "how much more can I get out of it."
I.E.
>Car A: 150k miles. Specific model rarely make it above 175k
>Car B: 200k miles. Specific model is known to last well into 350k miles
Everything else being equal, you should obviously pick car B, but retards always buy car A.

Toyotas have become overpriced due to the reliability meme.
>>
>>535643182
True but they are easy to work on especially when compared to german cars which are engineered to force people to give up working on them
>>
>>535641985
I paid 1,500 for such a car wth 110,000km / 68,350 miles.
Bought it from a German retiree, an airplane engineer who kept it in perfect technical condition despite quite a few dents and scratches that I don't mind.
>>
>>535643182
Everyone in my family has and does drive Toyota. The 1999 4 runner my uncle has with over 400k km on it still purrs like the day it was purchased. My aunts camry that is from 94? I think has had zero issues other than regular upkeep and maintenance. My first car was a tercel that was given to me when it was already 15 years old. Drove it for five years (did no maintenance on it) before buying my second car, used, off my cousin, a 05 matrix. Again, did no maintenance on it for 10 years before I sold it. It's not a meme. The 1990-2010 Toyota are bullet proof. Before planned obsolescence took over most of these vehicles will outlast you. Plus cheap parts and easy to work on. The premium on used Toyotas are there for a reason.

With jews you lose are you new here? In 07 I got a used 90 Honda for 1k it had like 150k miles on it ran like a champ. The hood and driver door were different colors because it had gotten into a wreck but it ran very well and did very good on gas. I was 16 I don't know how kids these days make it things are pretty fucked.
>>
>>535641985
Its an auto. Only women and brownoids drive automatics.
>>
>>535643845
This is true. German engineering has unironically raised the price of the opposition because the maintenance is quite onerous. Eu 7 compliant mercs are generally considered good for 100k now, tops.
>>
>>535641985
it does say it's above market price but a car like that should cost less than half that. keep it maintained and you can easily hit 300k miles with that
>>
>>535641985
it's a late stage toyota my man right before they tweaked cad design to kill the engines sooners, so she will live forever if you do basic maintenance.

>posts a Camry
>assumes thousands in repairs
nigga what? you could at least post something that actually is known for issues. 2012 Camry also uses a timing chain (not belt) meaning that's one less thing you gotta worry about replacing over time.

There are people with 200k+ mile cars that run just fine because they have been taken care of. If it has all routine maintenance done on it, it's probably fine.

$10k is also something you could possibly save up for and buy in full without needing a jewish car payment. I bet you'd drive that entire thing for a year without needing as much as an oil change. Saving up $200/mo (which would be far less than a car payment) for an entire year means $2400 in "oh shit fund" which is likely going to be more than any surprise repair in that car for a year.

I have several old JDM cars ('91 NSX and '06 S2000). Both of them just take oil. For the NSX the only thing I've had to do was pre-emptively replace CV boots but I did it because the rubber was starting to crack after 30+ years. I have owned it for 3 years now and put over 10k miles on it because it's fun to drive.

The S2000 has been the same, just needed oil and MTF in the 5 years I have owned it. The only repair was the cat converter went out and I bought a new high-flow one for $300 (because OEM was more expensive and unobtainable).

Oh and an oil change costs me $50 on each car because they are dead simple to do. Stop being scared of high mileage or older cars, especially Japanese ones.
>>
Burgers getting ripped off again as usual.
>>
>>535647217
I have a 2004 civic with 125k km as my spare car: runs like a champ. I should probably sell it and let someone else deal with the timing belt change. How much should I ask?
>>
>>535647357
you can see from OP that it's both at a dealer and labeled as high price (because it is). the true price for a car like that is much lower.
>>
You have to do peer to peer sales on sites like Craigslist the old fashioned way. You also need to knock on doors of older garages that seem to always have cars parked on the side; tons of these shops essentially are doing under the table car sales for their older clients that want to get rid of old cars. I almost spent $6k on a Prius 4 years ago at a dealership but then walked away when they had the audacity to try charging me $1k in additional ’doc fees’. Turned around and saw another Prius outside of a shop turns out some old lady wanted $3k for it and I bought it on the spot.
>>
>>535647446
It's not the timing belt that's gonna be your worry even though yeah that can be a pricey maintenance item. Those models can have headgasket issues over time which is an expensive one, and if you don't fix it you'll end up with overheating and a warped/crack block and bigger problems.

The 2006-2009 era Civics are bulletproof. The R-series motors are great and used a timing chain instead of belt.

I'm not sure about price though, I'd just look around local ads and price yours comparatively based on condition. You have really low miles on it though, here I've seen ones with double your mileage (and a little beat up) go for $4k so I think you should be able to get $6k+ easily especially if its in good paint/interior (and AC blows cold).
>>
>Buying a used car from a dealer
Why the fuck would you do that?
Just go to the faceberg marketplace or something, you can find the same car for like $4000.
>>
>>535647674
Granny finds are awesome but you have to be a bit lucky in timing to come across them. Another approach, if you have neighbors, is to chat them up if you see them and ask them if they or anyone they know are trying to sell a good used car. You'd be surprised.

My uncle does handyman stuff and often does tiling for people. One old lady had a nice 90s Miata in the garage and he asked about it. Her husband had passed and she wasn't sure what to do with it so he offered her $5k and she took it. It was a manual, in good condition, and even had the OEM hard to which fetches $2k alone.

There's an entire YouTube channel going through and mocking them with their broken retard English ads too, asking insane prices on something that doesn't even run.

if I was gonna spend a small chunk of change and buy a used car I'd get something cool.

I paid $2500 for my Toyota corolla because it had some cosmetic damage. Like I give a fuck if the doors have dents and the paint looks like shit. I've been driving this pile of shit for like 6 years now and I haven't had to do any major repairs. Very few things drop a cars value faster than cosmetic damage because it usually costs a lot to fix properly. Take advantage of normalfags not wanting to drive cars that have scratched paint and dents.

Thats a toyota with only 172k miles that thing is just a baby and has many many many many many many more miles that it will go. Toyota makes the bestest most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I have had my corolla for almost 20 years now and it has over a quarter million miles and ive only ever changed the oil and brakes and sepentine belt. Calling a toyota a shitbox shows that you are a fucking dumbdick.
>>
>>535652254
>20 years now and it has over a quarter million miles
Rofl. What an exaggerated way of saying you have 250k on it, which is not impressive. It's pretty much the standard for a vehicle to go at least that, and past 300k miles. Toyota cultists are the npcs of the auto world.

And if you see a modern Subaru that is either moving too slow, in the wrong lane, or spaced out falling asleep at the wheel, 99.9% it's a libtard. Oregon liberals are the worst drivers in the USA and they are obsessed with Subaru.

Yes, but just in case you didn't notice... US auto manufacturing died awhile back. Sure, there's a zombie husk shambling along, but it died. There's no new affordable supply. The used market is drying up, and as supply shrinks there too, expect used cars to go for x5, x10, x20 what they used to. It's only going to get worse. It's no coincidence that this and the r/fuckcars leftoid shilling all started happening at the same time... they're not just taking away the toys, they're brainwashing the masses to not want the toys.

It runs both ways. I was selling a 14yo first gen Scion xB with only 60k miles for $3,000. That would be about $4,000 today when you adjust for inflation. Pretty fair price, as it was in excellent shape and had maybe 4,000 miles on the tires. KBB suggested $3,400 but I wanted it gone.

Niggers kept offering $500 or $1,000, as if it’s some beat to hell shitbox that won’t last through the next tank of gas. “It ain’t worth shit it so old.” Dumb fucking niggers.

Used cars are a sellers market. Owners used to either sell privately (like FB or even a newspaper way back) or just bend over and take whatever a dealership would give them as a trade in. But now there are like a dozen businesses that deal exclusively in used cars. Carmax, Carvana, give me the vin, Driveway… it’s created a de facto bidding war for every used car. And since the US has been importing barely-employable brown retards for decades, there’s a giant underclass of poor people jacking up the prices as well.

This absolutely puts upward pressure on new vehicles, though that effect isn’t nearly as large as the aforementioned options and demands.
>>
>>535652169
