Every ground breaking technology in human history has been met with the same response, fear, outrage, prophecy of social ruin, and demands for suppression or outright elimination.

>Socrates and Plato denounced writing as a destroyer of memory
>The Gutenberg press was condemned for giving unqualified people dangerous ideas
>Queen Elizabeth I twice refused to patent knitting machines
>James I refused to patent knitting machines
>The Swing riots against agricultural machinery
>Luddites destroying knitting machinery and power looms
>Victorian's believing railway travel would cause insanity and uteruses to 'fly out of their bodies'
>Senator Olive Smith of Indiana believed telegraphs would cause derangement
>Swedish citizens believed telephones would attract evil spirits
>Electricity itself was widely terrifying to the common man and lead to the Lamp Lighter riots
>The chairman of IBM in 1943 said there was 'a world market for maybe five computers"
>In 1968 an engineer at IBM's advanced computijg systems division said on the microchip 'but what is it good for?'
>The president and founder of DEC said in 1977 'there is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home'
>The anti-radio and TV studies showing connections to violence that lead broadcasters to publically denounce the technology
>Gaming being hit with the same arguments used against radio and TV
>Boomer smartphone and internet hysteria (you should remember this)
>Today AI and Data Center hysteria

The pattern is identical and the predictions have been consistently wrong. The arguments made by Plato towards the written word fit current AI concerns on the stupidifying of the youth. Walter Ong famously observed in 1982 that Plato's arguments were the same used against early computers.

Despite the hysteria all of these technologies have improved the societies that adopted them. In every case. Each new technology has augmented human capability, not substituted it. This is at its core, moral panic.

I didn't read any of that but you sound like a faggot

>bringing socrates and plato into the data surveillance obsessed control freak pedophile sociopath debate
Least mentally ill goy subhuman.
>>
>>535821236
All good points but still each technology must be taken on a case by case assessment for whether wide spread availability is good.

Take nuclear weapons for example, you can make the same argument for individuals having their own nukes however you won't find many agreeing with you on the conclusion
>>
It would be nice if AI actually did anything useful.
>>
>>535821520
It only helps people that are already useful as it accelerates learning. Augmentation not substitution
>>
>>535821236
lump of labour should be discussed as a philosophical fallacy, not through an economic lens
we already know meaningless busywork to keep women at work and not making babies is physically possible
that is not the discussion
its whether we should do it or not
retard jew
>>
>>535821595
>Accelerates learning
It straight up lies to you the best you can hope for is making speeding up the details that do not matter. Even in basic bitch data entry and accounting AI is still unreliable.
>t. friend is an accountant and still has a job with long and boring hours
>>
>>535821595
It's the opposite, ot leads to skill atrophy
>>
>>535821701
If your AI is lying you are not using it correctly. You are like a boomer with a smartphone. If you arent using a council of independent AI's I cant help you because you do not understand how to use it to your advantage.

You could learn if you wanted to but like the boomer with the smartphone you do not want to.
>>
>>535821701
for me personally it is better as a tutor and professor than the mystery meat SA/SEA retards i get for some classes
what you get out of ai is proportional to your intelligence
>>
>>535821236
None of those technologies were telling people to kill themselves.
>>
>>535821748
>"If men learn this, it will implant forgetfulness in their souls. They will cease to exercise memory because they rely on that which is written, calling things to remembrance no longer from within themselves, but by means of external marks. ... You have invented an elixir not of memory, but of reminding."
Plato on the written word.

Many technologies were pushed as gamechanging at first that never met their promise. Maybe they were progress in utility from before but they also resulted in several bubbles and collapses in terms of the hype and money poured in.
>>
>>535821955
List the technologies you are talking about. Electricity did not collapse. Power looms did not collapse. Computers did not collapse.

>tv, social media, smut novels measurably DO destroy peoples' brains
>development of industrial machines and mechanization of society destroys the relative utility of dumb retards (such as yourself) because they're not needed in the fields, on top of gender norms and extended families for the sake of industrial/commercial output
>computers are used for porn and studying how to cure cancers caused by the transport and refinement of the same resources used to build them
>more education/knowledge leads to greater understanding of how miserable we truly are
You are championing the biggest case of missing the forest for the trees on a scale that brings the universe to its knees in tears, pity, and finally anger.

Nobody has yet conceived of an argument against the technology. You all clearly need AI to hold your hand to even think critically.

Ever technological leap forward has bitten mankind in the ass because man has always misapplied technology before finally learning from his mistakes. AI is no different and is not only being misapplied but maliciously misused by Jews and shabbos goy, people who actively despise everything good and decent in this world. Fuck the date centers, fuck the (((tech bros))), and fuck you for defending them.

None of those things gave those same elites the power to fully eliminate the common man by the billions without harming any other systems. You're either stupid or a shill. I don't think 99% of people are even smart enough to begin to think about how AI should be used, let alone understand it, that's the real problem, the people in charge of it, wether the masses or the elites, are fucking evil morons.

Knowing this, AI should be spread and decentralized as much as possible, then the smart people can decide what actually should be done with it, limiting it to politicians and militaries sure as hell isn't going to end well.
>>
>>535821236
Technology is satanic and should be destroyed. Humans are meant to live in caves and live in terror of nature and wild animals. The modern and technology is a demonic perversion of the natural order. I truly hope that some day technology in all its forms will be dead and gone and we can go back living as hunter-gatherers. I mean this completely unironically.
>>
>>535823846
>Knowing this, AI should be spread and decentralized as much as possible, then the smart people can decide what actually should be done with it, limiting it to politicians and militaries sure as hell isn't going to end well.
Small minded fool that you are, you're blind to the actual solution to problem posed by AI. That solution is the complete and permanent obliteration of any and all forms of technology, and force the entire humanity to live as hunter-gatherers and living in caves. I mean this unironically.
>>
>>535823846
AI can be useful, but not profitable. The problem with AI isn't its potential utility, it's the greed investors seem to have over it that will lead to worse outcomes for everyone especially themselves. Tale as old as the Industrial Revolution. Many first gen AI and big tech companies will probably see massive disappointments.
>>
>>535821236
Luddites are morons, this is known. Have to be careful that AI does not become a cloud only mega server dependent control tool of government though. Never, and I mean NEVER, let them stop private individuals from being able to do AI small scale without the internet with just a gaming GPU.
>>
>>535821312
I read all of it and your assessment is spot-on
>>
>>535825641
Survivorship bias makes people not realize how many times "luddites" were actually right too though since when they're right nothing changes as was promised or being shoved into society.
>>
>>535825713
I actually read it and it's like 50/50.
>>
>>535825641
Oh, i see you are one of the Satan worshipping, psychotic imbeciles who worship technology and who genuinely believe that humanity and society will keep progressing technologically forever and how we will never go back living in caves as hunter-gatherers.
Well, i have some bad news for you, friend, the time will come when technology will be nothing but a distant memory, and when even a simple flashlight will be considered as an demonic object and which will be destroyed by the tribesmen by crushing it with a rock.
>>
>>535825446
You have no idea about the scope of the AI issue if you think the biggest potential problem is corporate greed, you have no clue, that's the scariest thing. If an AI drone comes for you you won't even know what's happening.
>>
>>535825997
Lol, i'm fond of primitivism but you've got to be trolling. The only way you'd achieve what you want is a giant nuclear war that puts humanity back at the stone age, why don't you just shill for the amish, i like them
>>
>>535821236
And none of them were wrong, even luddites. Especially luddites.
The industrial revolution brought pollution, turned cities into shitholes, and enabled the multiplication of third worlders that would otherwise be extinct by now.
>>
>>535825853
He's only picking positive examples of new technology/ideas while ignoring any that failed and implying anyone who disagrees with him is retarded so it's gay from start to finish
>>
>>535821748
All tech does. Orwell wrote a good essay about it.
No tech meant most people were employed with a sense of purpose.
>>
>>535821236
all that can be summed up as white fragility.
>>
But Plato and Socrates were right. Our ability to memorize vast quantities of information did get worse when we started writing things down. Furthermore, arete is rarer than ever these days. We live in a world of techne. You might even call it a technocracy. But techne without arete is dangerous and oh, would you look at that, that's exactly what the Greek philosophers of yore said would happen.
>>
>>535821236
>prior machines helped human beings
>therefore, there are no risks whatsoever to creating a machine with an explicit goal of outperforming humans at the one thing which made humans conquer the world
the whole point of this AI shit is to make us obsolete. Not "able to move into higher productivity jobs", not "better at our work", just outright obsolete.
>>
>>535826518
Link to the essay?

>>535822268
>>535821236
Electricity and wireless radio pulled us into the demonic matrix. That was why there was WWI and afterwards the destruction of beauty and the steady decline of civilization.
Think about this rather than dismissing out of hand.
>>
The purpose of data centers is to monitor everyone at all times so that the loved ones of those the elite consume can never rise up and depose the elite who torture them.
>>
>>535821236
But technology has lead to social ruin.
>>
Knitting machine, steam mill, dynamite, automobile etc.. proved their worth from the get go.
AI has proven it can store what other people have made, mix them up, and push the mix out as new.
Furthermore, AI industry have proven it is willing to steal from people and then sell back to people what wasn't theirs to sell in the first place.
>scam, fraud and theft written all over it
Unlike in previous revolutionary inventions, where, granted, the original idea may have first been stolen, but the idea itself was nevertheless brand new.

That said, AI may be useful as a quick TOOL to go through the archives, then as a tool for brainstorming ideas.. but that's it. Maybe a tool for holodeck
>computer, I want counselor Deanna Troy to be a goddess of muh dick
but, that too, would require a shit ton of actual human handiwork, by competent artists, for the AI to learn from.

>>535823757

Combining various camera networks like flock, with retail camera's designed to identify shoppers' faces in real time, with phone surveillance systems that already exist, combined with ai data-centers we basically have a situation where a single bad president / congress could turn us functionally into a totalitarian system and end our democracy and way of life.

Maybe that's bad?
>>
>>535827124
This is the same argument used to ban guns. Misuse of technology does not justify its ban, it justifies regulation.

This. It's like a fussion that is always a decade away. Imagine now all those fussion companies would be 40% of the stock market based on just a simple promise of unlimited energy in a decade or so.
We already had AI 20 years ago. Now it's slightly more advanced, to the point boomers can't distinguish a real person from a chat bot. But that's it. Ai has already been everywhere and now we have advanced search engines with AI. There is no argumentation why it will be a huge revilution in a coming decade.
