If you drink too much you become an alcoholic as with the hangover your dopamine goes low so you feel like shit until you have a drink...Alcohol is also highly adulterated with glucose syrup added to beer for example. So buy pure stuff like a good wine or real ale. You only really get liver failure if you drink more than a bottle of spirit a day and still it will take awhile for that to happen.The reason for drinking alcohol is also important, if you just want to feel happy and get stoned it's not a problem, on the other hand if you're using it to drown your sorrows you might become an addict and act out when you drink leading to legal issues.
