They understand the term but not how it works. Thermal shock is something that happens as a result of an extreme and sudden temperature change, and it's by considerably more than fifteen degrees. You would have to be going from something like a literal ice box to an oven for it to affect organic tissue in such a way.

In villages here you can easily enjoy your summer with up to 28°C in the shade, the next lake is not far and usually houses are built to be cool and with enough shadow to not heat up much even in the summer.

I haven’t had AC since leaving home at 18. Lived in some hot areas and now I’m on the west coast where besides the odd heat wave it’s temperate. I like keeping my house cooler in the winter and more or less outside temp in the summer. It’s how we’re supposed to live and I find people with AC and always living at a constant room temp don’t acclimatize well. I also don’t like when luxuries become necessities so I avoid that shit. It’s sort of effeminate to rely so much on indoor temperature control.
