Answer: He was spreading information that made the Canadian government look bad (true or not), a nurse "Certified" him without speaking with him days after he visited MPs with his China Vancouver Attempt article. Another medical professional "Certified" him a second time after detention. Due to a 1998 change to the law, this is easy to do, no independence required, and collusion is allowed. So he is now locked up anywhere from a month to indefinitely. Everyone here stating he is mentally ill are making a ton of assumptions, there is no public information available to back that up at all. What is publicly available makes it look like the MPs are the ones that reported him, and the nurse that certified him did so in bad faith (she never spoke to him).

This is a common thing and has been for years.

Remand and psychiatric holds are just a mechanism the justice system can use to keep people in custody, be it jail, a mental hospital or the suicide ward of the mental hospital, its a funny thing they can do that softlocks them out of alot of things later on in life,

I think people struggle differentiating between eccentricity and insanity. From actions you cannot tell - and you can only guess based on the alignment of a person's mind of actions - but still, you cannot know what the value of the achievement is to the person.
