If you need more you are a consumer. A log cabin like this only cost $50000 or less in the Nordic countries.

I want to do this in the US. I think a decent, small dry cabin can be built for around $20k or even less. I've considered using an outhouse and solar which seems to have become inexpensive in recent years.

I could live anywhere even if the tide goes out on a twin keel, so I could sail into coastal area where other boats don't go with a shallow draft and get out and service the boat like painting or applying resin.

It would be fun to go all the way to japan on a sail boat, but crossing the sea at 7 knots tops would take like 30 days, and the pacific would take like 3 months.

In Alaska you buy off the grid property and a portable saw mill. Buy a bunch of threaded rod and nuts and the long sealing strips in between the logs. If you make the foundation off the ground with cinder blocks you can use large threaded rod to hold the cabin up. When it settles, doors and windows stick, you can re-level the place with a wrench.

From 19-27 I almost exclusively bathed. All my buddies gave me shit for it and I couldn't have given less of a fuck. If you're dirty you just rinse yourself in the shower quick before filling the tub. I'd wake up 30 minutes early every morning just to have a bath and relax. I highly recommend. Fantastic way to start your day. Grab a book, throw on some music, or make a cup of coffee/tea. That routine took so much off of my daily stress by starting from a better place each morning. I feel like most people think of it as an evening thing to wind down.

what really is the worth of uncle ted's cabin?
>>
>>535988220
The cabin is probably a piece of shit. Plumbing and electric are probably not up to code or capable of supporting modern appliances. I ain't going to live on an Amish. That is a hunting cabin for a weekend. The logs, foundation, everything about that structure I guarantee would need work if it's that cheap. Taxes, approval, and land are the big expense. How big is the property? Who maintains the roads? Do you even own the access to the property? Are wells allowed? Is septic allowed? The price of good land can easily cost you 50k per acre in rural areas, not even considering some place like Montana where buildable land is limited or outside of a major city where rural land is premium like Boston in the most extreme or just your midwest city where people commute. Land is expensive and there ain't much left of it. It's even more crazy with data center development and billionaires buying all the land. Then you have all the other considerations. How do you live there and make an income? What is the cost of living? You could bleed through savings real quick if you don't know what you are getting yourself into. The days of buying a piece of land and living in a cabin died a long time ago. It's all a bunch of hippy homestead bullshit. I like homesteaders, but the idea has been killed.

Strip pontoon boat down to frame and pontoons.
build light strong dwelling on waterproof deck you install. Metal roofing over frame with insulation board works well, though its hard to beat 2x4 w/insulation frame covered in roofing metal sheets. No taxes, tiny house. Live on any river.
