They also were the most advanced and industrial society in Africa at one point. Then the world forced them to join Ethiopia and Halie Selassie sabotaged them because he was afraid of their power compared to Ethiopia in federation.

If the UN allowed them to be independent and didn't force federation for decades they would 100% like south korea now + the tourism sector would be booming on the red sea with prime snorkel spots, monasteries, etc.

The only reason they haven't gone full African tiger is they have a repressive dictatorship with siege mentality always afraid of another Ethiopian invasion and maintaining their own power
