California’s high-speed rail now ‘worst project in history’ — as insiders reveal unbelievable new costhttps://nypost.com/2026/04/28/us-news/california-high-speed-rail-falls-behind-as-costs-soar-to-231-billion/>The project — first approved by voters in 2008 — was originally expected to cost about $33 billion and be completed by 2020. The High-Speed Rail Authority now estimates the initial Central Valley segment will cost roughly $34.8 billion, while the broader “Phase 1” system will cost $126 billion — although that number is far from set in stone>Without changes that include revised station locations, scaled back design and using a single track that already has other rail lines operating, it would top $231 billion$231 billion>$231 billion$231 billion>$231 billion$231 billion>$231 billion$231 billion>$231 billion$231 billion>$231 billionNever let it be forgotten that your money simply vanishes into the etherAnd this is just *one* example

>The high-speed rail alignment shares substantial parts of its corridor with existing freight railroads. Construction activity that affects them are subject to their approval. For example, the construction of a road underpass in downtown Fresno required also building a bridge for existing Union Pacific tracks and their temporary relocation ("shoo-fly"). According to CHSRA officials, it took nine iterations of design reviews to obtain approval, with each step taking about 45 days.[175] Freight railway companies are further able to order construction stops at or near their railroads during peak shipping season in the fourth quarter of each year, thus narrowing the window for construction.lmao>By January 2013, the state had not acquired a single parcel,[164] delaying overall construction start to 2015. By 2019, less than 310 parcels out of 1859 required had been acquired. The number of parcels necessary was underestimated due to the extent of utility conflicts being larger than the Authority anticipated. Land conveyance processes were further complicated due to incomplete records kept by utility companies like PG&E on precise utility locations and easement rights. In hundreds of cases, the Authority was forced to buy entire plots of land, even though only a portion of its right-of-way was required.[163]lmao>In 2012, the Authority decided to issue construction contracts, even though design was only 15% complete, partially to comply with spending deadlines for the ARRA funding. However, this implied that the final sizes of bridges, overpasses and track beds were unknown, leading to incomplete identification of land rights to be secured.[163][120]lmao>The Central Valley with its agricultural focus relies on irrigation canals. These are usually dry from March to September, providing the Authority with a time window of six months per year to conduct work on canal relocations or bridging structures.[196] lmao

And avoiding embarrassment is more important to normies than avoiding another 200+ billion dollar cost overrun the next time aroundMore normies than I can count in January 2020 told me...>"But the TV says covid wont spread in the US!"I told them to get their toilet paper ASAPI got a whole Costco flat bed of it and was the TP hero of my family and friends. Bringing each of them a couple 30 packs free of charge. They learned nothing. To this day they all still continue to believe whatever the TV says. Muslim characters in the UK are depicted on Netflix as kind/caring/decent/honorable people. They think it must be true despite the hard data (picrel) I show themHumans did not evolve with television. Because of this, normie minds cannot comprehend that they are constantly being shown things which are a complete misrepresentation of true underlying reality. To the few of us who aren't tricked by the distortions shown in movies and tv shows and other media, we cannot fathom how normies can see something like the Muslim-rape-statistics-graph in picrel and simply casually dismiss it because it doesn't align with what the TV told them is real

I remember I was living in china when two leftoid Americans avoiding student loan debt in America joined this group of expats I hung out with. They were ecstatic about that stupid railroad project in cancerfornia. I told them it was a boondoggle. The conversation steered toward government being wasteful, they tried arguing government creates wealth by choosing which projects get taxpayer money lol.I made them shut the fuck up about the railroad scam in california by telling them Feinstein's husband's construction firm got a contract to work on it. They didn't even try arguing with me, by then they realized I knew what the fuck I was talking about and found an excuse to leave. This was in 2012, before Trump made them all rabid.

$230 billion is low and the project is going along pretty well. It's enabled at least three other train projects in Merced, Fresno, Tulare/Kings and Bakersfield. Gold Runner is already Amtrak's #5th route, so it makes sense to make it high speed rail. This whole thing has been a huge success for central valley republicans anyway, they get free money from the Bay Area and LA while Sacramento used HSR as a means to deregulate the CEQA. Liberals had to choose between CEQA and trains, and chose trains.

>>536041709For this project the problem is that the state of California doesn't own most of California's land. Most of the land that this rail needed to be built across is title land than was given to settlers hundreds of years ago. Those titles are still legally binding and still exist, so in order to build on that land the state needed to buy out the title holder of each little plot of land. The result was that each title holder in turn gouged harder until they started demanding prices the state literally couldn't afford, leaving the state with a half-built rail system and no way to move forward. The state tried taking the title holders to court to claim Eminent Domain and lost, and in the countersuit they were forced to pay each title holder they had bought out the price of of the highest payout. This is how the project got to be so expensive and why it just terminates in the middle of nowhere.
>>536062205If that's true, then its California's fault for not researching this problem to begin with.
>>536041381The voters were asked in 2008 if they wanted a high speed rail line from San Francisco to Los Angeles. This project no longer fulfills that voter mandated vision. It does not do directly from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
