Before 2010s or so, men cared less about female promiscuity because average men were having sex with those women. Nowadays, many of the average men are not sleeping with them but expected to marry them. Promiscuous female + virgin male is becoming increasingly common, something historically unprecedented. That is why there seems to be growing backlash against it.
