How exactly will that bill save "video games" california going to force DEIs into roles at gaymin companies?
>>
>>536110901
stop killing games is objectively wrong.
there is no reason for a company to support an online game ad infinitum just because a bunch of hold outs like it.
if it's no longer profitable it should be shut down.

When online games all contain paid content that can only be accessed through those servers, then yes they do have an obligation to keep the servers running indefinitely. I don't care about their profit margins. They backed themselves into this corner by pushing this "games as a service" bullshit.

A broken clock is right twice a day.

Imagine in the Middle Ages the king passing a decree ordering the games in taverns be offered in all days the tavern is open.
Peak goycattle legislation. Next step is turning OF affordable or some shit.

The Brazilian is correct. At 10am the clock at 10pm isn't the correct time.

Game releases are going to come to a trickle when more developers try to unionize.

Evidently it shows 10:10 am. Or pm. But definitely one or the other. Zoomzooms are gonna zoom I guess. Better turn my vintage watches in to the zoomer police for not being specific enough to know whether the sun just rose or set.

Yea bro, game devs are going to skip out on the 4th-largest economy on the planet instead of just paying a dude $20k to spend a few weeks adding a "host server" option to their game before they shut it down, or just foregoing that entirely and giving 6 months notice.

Basically for live service games, rather than just shutting them down, publishers would be obligated to release a server client or a way to run the game locally.

That's right goy, now go get fit and die for Israel so Jews can get more special treatment laws in based Republican states who are totally nothing like those Jewish Dems.
>>
>>536111903
I don't think they even demand that. They just require a published support plan so that customers are informed before they buy.
>>
>>536111018
SKG is about making it illegal to pull the plug on a game without either adding a token offline mode or letting players run their own servers.
This is important for:
>conservation of online game
>stop game designers from effectively holding a knife under the consumer's throat ("if you don't buy all DLC/cash shop garbage we will destroy the entire product")
>stop publishers from taking back the product you bought whenever they want to release a new one
The last two are actually a growing problem now that publishers realized they could just make ALL games have a mandatory online mode so they can have this hostage situation even with games who objectively don't need an online component.

Pretty much everything in SKG is just basic-ass consumer rights that already exist in the law, but that the vidya industry somehow managed to exempt itself by abusing the fact that lawmakers don't take vidya seriously and thus never ruled that practice that wouldn't be legal when selling vaccum cleaners shouldn't be legal when selling "Ball & Gun VII: Zombie DLC".
>>
>>536111903
You don't have to support it ad infinitum.
After the game is no longer profitable, you just let people download the server program so they can run private servers.
That's all you have to fucking do.

Companies don't want this because that means they won't be able to force people to play games that they can profit off of, because people will be able to continue playing the old games that they aren't making a dime on.
>>
>>536117525
Are you one of those zoomers who's never seen an analog clock?
>>
>>536119826
Analog clocks don't show AM or PM. They just show the 12 hours. Therefore, when they are broken, they are right at two times during the day.
>>
>>536111903
All you have to do is release the server files so people can host their own. If you're shutting down the official servers then you're not expecting to make any profit from it anyway.
>>
>>536121136
This is the fault of the consumers. You're the ones who spend millions of dollars telling companies that you love multiplayer games and want more multiplayer games.
>>
>>536111903
All they have to do is make it playable offline
>>
>>536119791
So in your head a clock is only broken if it is not analog and/or functions properly? Gotta be 18 to post here.
>>
>>536119826
... An analog clock shows the time in increments of 12 hours, and if it breaks and stops working it's correct twice a day. Please be a troll.
>>
>>536122123
If an analog clock is two hours ahead of another analog clock which shows the correct local timezone time, the former analog clock will literally never once during any day be correct.
>>
>>536119786
An update like that is not as simple as you think. It would be cheaper to continue physical media so they still have access to your product, though digital codes bought through can work too.

Meanwhile if it affects companies based there, the could have already saved a lot by moving even before this,
>>
>>536122305
In what sense is that clock broken, dumbass? Set improperly, okay. Broken?
>>
>>536122617
The retarded faggot boomer who coined that idiotic phrase never specified how the clock is broken in the first place. You would have to have it broken in a specific way for that boomerism to be true.
>>
>>536122838
Who coined the phrase, and how is your worthless zoomer definition of "broken" somehow more "valid" or whatever you faggots say now? Are you so adhd you can't parse a simple metaphor?
>>
>>536122910
it's a retarded metaphor that doesn't even logically compute because it's a vaguepost
>>
>>536122948
Miss me with this kike bullshit, then. Effortpost or get off the shitter.
>>
>>536122305
The broken clock isn't supposed to be ticking, but stuck on a specific time.
>>
>>536123273
Why wasn't that specified then?
>>
How does SKG not force developers to appeal to the broadest demographics going forward? This shit might as well say "put minorities in games so it will sell well if it's live service!". What a dumb fucking bill, strike this stupid shit down.
>>
>>536123396
Because a clock that can tick generally isn't broken, it's just wrong.
>>
>>536124557
According to you. A clock can be broken by having really bad clock drift.
>>
>>536121578
Multiplayer games existed for decades and didn't have this problem until the 360 era. It's called a server browser with self-hosted servers
>>
>>536124607
That's why I said "generally". You don't normally see a really fucked up clock like that unless somebody broke it.

>>
>>536124650
Well I guess your plan to release a live service indie game you plan on dropping support for after a couple years to scam your customers isn't going to happen anymore, sorry Chaim.
