Second time I got drunk I shit, vomited and passed out in the mess for a good 20 minutes. This was in 2005 so the only evidence of this is a granny 240p image on a phone in a drawer with no charger and stories from people I haven't seen in 20 years 1000 miles away, point is you'll have to dig and at best the only proof this even happened are fuzzy second hand memories. When I was a young lad in my 20s, even going to a tourist trap like Temple Bar, a pint was around 5 euro, and considered a rip off at the time. I recently bought a pint to meet some American girl in that same pub, 15 years later and it cost me 17 euro. Wages also haven't really kept up with this. At my first "real job" after university, it was 30k before tax. That was considered "good" because I knew people that had similar degrees that were in the low 20s. But my rent was just 800. It seems like the bare minimum for a decent apartment now is more than double that, unless you want to live with junkies or niggers nearby (which I didn't have to do).There are also other reasons, like the fact that everyone is walking around with a camera in their pocket that can upload your drunked foolishness to the entire internet. Whereas in my 20s, I did make a fool of myself, but it wasn't really considered polite to be going around videoing everything. Now we have children that grew up with smartphones so they don't see any stigma whatsoever going to places like a restaurant, bar or concert, with the phone out. That taboo is long broken.That said, it's kind of a rite of passage for young men to go out and make fools of themselves. Alcohol does serve as a social lubricant and as long as it's just "social drinking" where you might just get into a state of tipsiness, it should be fine. Also being a young man you might feel you need the Dutch courage to approach women and just get it over with. That is one way to get over "social anxiety" but sadly if you never drink or even go out at all you will never get past it.

People bringing up the cost of drinking: the average price of alcohol has increased less than the average inflation of consumer goods. The reason younger millennials/Gen Z drink less is because of cultural reasons, not economic. They prefer other drugs. I was at an edm festival recently, really feeling my age. Some people were drinking but almost everyone was opening smoking, vaping, taking pills, and snorting cocaine. And a lot of that was around before - but people were doing that and also drinking alcohol. Now it seems the younger crowd has eschewed drinking in favor of the other vices entirely. I also think the long term effects of 21+ laws, drunk driving laws, harsher underage drinking penalties, and reduced frat/sorority culture has played a part.

You can't get drunk without being recorded or ending up with rape charges if you had sex with another drunk woman while drunk. Zoomers also don't like to socialize they think their screentime = socializing. And weed and better legal narcotics are available because anyone can get a script for benzos or Adderall. It's also expensive to go out, a bar used to be the place you could go to relax after work and the cost was negligible, now thanks to higher costs + tip culture it ends up very expensive, $10 a beer total is not that unusual. Also due to millennials it feels like most bars don't want to serve cheap beer but want to serve gay overpriced IPA slop, you used to be able to get pitchers of beer for cheap. Finally, we simply live in a 'diverse', low trust, polarized shitty society now, no one wants to get drunk with people who hate you.
