Since that's fallen through, they'll need time build up an invasion force, so the midterms happen to be a convenient time to delay past. Also, Israel was clearly expecting to steamroll Lebanon, and have been similarly stymied by a Hezbollah they thought had been neutralized. So they need to regroup and rethink that front as well. I wouldn't be surprised if we deploy America forces to Lebanon to help the IDF, so at least Israel ends up getting something out of this shitshow.
