A lot of countries are stuck in a cycle. Economic downturn means people have fewer or no children. Fewer or no children creates more economic problems because fewer workers to support the elderly retirees. Fewer kids ect. The solution governments in Europe came up with this was MEGA immigration from developing countries. Problem with this is that more immigration also mean increased competition for housing/increased cost of living which further lowers native birth rate .Not to mention to cultural conflict, crime and violence from mass immigration. In retrospect, as soon as the birth rate dipped below 2.1 a major priority of western governments should have been to raise it back up. They never saw the problems this would create. Japan and S Korea are going to collapse eventually.
