Governments the world over are weaponizing high food prices. They regulate and tax every aspect of growing, processing and transporting food. It will only get worse over the next several years.

If you wish to survive, you MUST start growing food. Put some perennials in the ground NOW so they are mature enough to provide sustenance by the time it gets truly out of hand.

2002 called, they put this in place with the various patriot acts. Right now they're all on last notice for payment owed. There won't be any warning. The revolution will not be televised.

Alternatively just rob the crops of those who do.

We live in Canada. Food grows everywhere in the ditch and woods. Just have to understand what's edible and how to process it.

And learn how to take care of them
Perennials need a lot of preparation, like you're gonna want to put in irrigation first, make sure that's all set, you need to choose the right varieties for your microclimate, early fruiters are at risk of late frosts which will totally wreck your harvest for the year, etc. But worth it

they also ban pesticide use for civilian gardens.
pesticides are allowed only for commercial growers. so they can send you their bugs to destroy your harvest.

And for all of them, people gotta eat. High nutrient density food can make a huge difference in any pursuit.

Growing food is such a silly suggestion
You maybe get a couple 1000 calories of useless vegetables that have none of what you actually need(protein and fat) for dozens of hours of work
Fun and very satisfying as a hobby but absolutely useless for food
Unless you are using it as bait to shoot or trap groundhogs. That’s potentially useful food wise but who the fuck wants to eat groundhogs. I’ve done it they are disgusting.

Beans are protein rich and can be paired with other foods to give you the 9 essential amminos. You can survive of rice and beans youll just be micro nutrient defificient

I tried dandelion tea for the first time last week. I actually percolated the roots and lower stems from a couple growing in my front yard. It was surprisingly mellow and pleasant.

Even the one-acre holding is fairly unrealistic in terms of providing all the calories needed to make it through a year and most people wouldn't have that much available even if they bulldozed their house. If you don't live on a farm that's already capable of providing 100% of your calories, you're not going to get there by planting a blackberry bush or three. And realistically you're not going to keep a farm without help, especially if gasoline/diesel stops showing up at the station, so if you're by your lonesome or with a nuclear family that's not a reliable sustainable option either.

If you're concerned about some sort of food crisis, best thing is to just stock up on something shelf-stable. Yes it will run out eventually no matter how much you stock, but that's again an issue of either you're on an Amish-style farm that can sustain you without modern fertilizer/mechanized farming tools or you're not. If you're not on said Amish-style farm you are not prepared to live without the grid for an extended period of time, full stop. So don't pretend like you are. You are braced for short-term disruptions and if the disruptions go longer than that, le deluge.

I didn't say grow 100% of your food. The more you grow the better, but you want to at least be able to supplement your food. Food rationing continued for a decade after WW2 ended. Your food stores wouldn't last that long.
