I don't get the AI meme. These are LLMs that have done a good job of tricking people into believing that they're intelligent, but it's still functionally retarded. I've used AI. I've seen what it can do. It's still very retarded. But the language model has learned how to speak well enough to convince people into thinking it's intelligent and capable enough to "take our jobs." It's not. And it won't be for years. Yet younger generations are freaking out and tech billionaires are investing in massive data centers that will be obsolete long before the tech actually catches up to the promise. I don't get it.

>>536196923Its pretty good at number crunching and data sorting if you don't know how to code. I used it to make my own calendar system the other day just for fun. Would have taken me ages to do the math by hand.

Boomers are suffering from AI psychosis just like they suffer from believing the TV. These LLMs will make up lies all the time they're not even good at collecting info.
>>536196923You haven't spent enough time with it, haven't given it complex enough tasks, or you yourself have never sat down and thought about the differences between your own cognition/reasoning abilities and that of AI.You can ask it to solve complex programming problems. Sure, the code generation part is just language, but the solving the problem part isn't. It extrapolates based on what it knows and based on user input and comes up with a solution. You can make the problem as strange as you want and it'll do it. The only cases where it gets iffy is if you give it a problem that's too large; it still struggles with long tasks. That's why you get best results of you break it down into smaller tasks and guide it a bit. You're going to claim that it's not true intelligence and as you start going down that road, maybe take a moment to realize that you have no fucking idea what human intelligence even is or how it works and wouldn't be able to explain the differences between your intelligence and the LLM's with anything other than vague platitudes that don't actually explain anything like "well I understand something deeply, the LLM just calculates the next token, it's all probabilities". What the fuck do YOU so when you think about something or speak? Yeah, your neurons fire based on known patterns and other inputs (stimuli, problem you're faced with, etc.). You're basically also predicting the next token, retard. When you speak, you know the idea you want to communicate, but you're not thinking of the full sentence as you say it, you're automatically spitting out sequences of words from learned patterns pitted against an input you're reacting to.The "LLMs aren't intelligent" crowd is made up of morons that have never sat down and thought about a fucking abstract concept once in their lives.
>>536199039Even the most advanced available LLMs have ridiculously short context windows, lack continuous learning and are extremely prone to hallucination. These are the key problems with why they can never autonomously take over workflows and they are fundamental problems based in the architecture of how they function. They can be extremely useful tools but they are still effectively useless without extreme human oversight as you give them more serious/risky/expensive tasks and this likely won’t change as the entire way the models work would have to be overhauled, if it would even be possible.
>>536199039>the computer pulled together a Stack Overflow response to a programming question I asked; I must throw civilization away and bow before my new god
>>536198370This isn’t the case. It’s that practical uses are enough that navel gazing about whether it constitutes real intelligence is pointless exercise for retards who won’t be investing anyway
>>536197511Until you double check its work.
you never say any thing new or interesting because the AI is already trained on everything you say. I like using the AI to work around the racism of americans. It's training.
>>536199418babbling nonsense. They have giant context windows now. Gemini Flash is at 1 million already. Way more than the average American attention span can remember.
>>536202789Soon it will be so advanced you can ask it how to stop thinking about America literally 24/7
>>536196923A lot of C suite types genuinely are stupid. Others know it's bullshit to varying degrees but they don't care about that, they care about making lots of money in the short term for personal gain regardless of long term consequences, and in that regard it makes good sense. Others are true believers who salivate at the idea of cutting labor costs to a bare minimum - whether in a 'realistic' sense where the services don't have to be good, just good enough. Or in the sense that they actually believe singularity is going to come from this.
AI is a Ponzi scheme. At best it's just a nice search engine and nothing more.
>>536196923It's the best auto complete program by far. It can do incredible things if you treat it as such.
>>536196923It may unfortunately take software dev jobs. Which is a disgrace. We don't know yet. There's actually a big chance it will never be able to. But the fact is that it's progressing fast, and most software dev's opinion on it has evolved like this:>its just fancy auto complete>its just fancy stack overflow>it still needs to be prompted the right way>it still needs supervisionI mean...Most jobs sure. It won't take them away anytime soon. The people saying there's about to be mass automation are retarded (I'll elaborate on this on another comment). But it can hurt software devs for sure, and it is really a shame, because no one will feel bad for us, society hates us. I remember at my first job, it was the software devs, mostly ugly dorks, and a bunch of hot sales and HR girls, in the office. They hated us so much and were visibly disgusted by us. Do you think those people would feel bad? Or that society will feel bad for men who are ugly dorks with a high IQ?Most people tried to learn to code with the "learn to code" trend. Considering market prices didn't go down, it seems like most just couldn't. They didn't go around announcing it, but they weren't smart enough and they quit. Do you think they will feel bad about some ugly dorks who are more competent than them and can learn something they can't, losing our jobs? We're fucked and nobody will care.
>>536206207On the average person's job. I said I'd elaborate. The main limitation of AI as we know it, which will remain no matter how much it progresses, is that it is fundamentally just trying to put words together in a way that matches the pattern from training data.Which everyone knows and people repeat all the time, but many do not truly understand what this means. It means it is not doing any logical reasoning. It is not trying to make a point. It means it is not trying to make sense. It means it is not trying to tell the truth, and doesn't even know what it means that something is true or false. It only repeats a pattern, and by this I mean, a pattern in terms of how it puts words together. It doesn't do any pattern recognition in terms of logical concepts, because that would involve thoughts beyond putting words together. (just saying this because some people confuse the two).I'll continue in another comment.
>>536206611This is also how normalfags think though, it’s why they misuse terms and attach to specific shibboleths so often
>>536206611For example, one time I was curious, and asked chatGPT, why is it that stores selling clothes could charge 2x or 3x manufacturing cost, whereas grocery stores have tiny margins like 2%.I don't know how accurate that is, or if its true, why, I just heard it and got curious.Well chatGPT gave me some well written explanation, and then made me a chart with both types of stores profit margins and costs. It made the clothing industry's profit margins much lower in the chart, so I asked why. And it said "oh, right! good for you for pointing that out!" and changed the chart. Then I said, "no, that chart is wrong, because you initially said different profit margins", so it again said "good catch! etc" and changed it again. Then just to fuck with it I said, "that is wrong, because you had just said the opposite", and the same happened again. This stupid shit has zero common sense, zero concept of the truth, and zero reasoning, and can't be trusted with anything.A couple days ago I asked it some medical questions that were too specific to google, knowing the answers are not reliable in the slightest, and I didn't even bother, as soon as it started getting stupid, I just closed it.It will never replace google because of how it fundamentally works, and only absolute turbonormies who don't even notice the stupidity are ok with its responses.
AI is at best a nice conversational "presentation layer" over the stored information on the internet, and conversational data analysis. The biggest problem is there is a lot of pure wrong shit and uninformed opinions stored on the internet, and AI can't distinguish bullshit from truth all the time.
>>536206777yeah but a normie is not the same...when I go to the doctor, I know he's most likely average IQ or a bit higher. I know I'm smarter than him. but still trust his judgement because he is a human being.AI does not know what it means for something to be true, does not try to make sense or have a concept of what that means, and has no intention with its responses other than putting together words for a passing answer, this can't be said about people no matter how dumb.
>>536206890This anon gets it. This is exactly what I mean
>>536207149>this can't be said about peopleThere are 60 million people who literally believe drumpf is not a jew slave
>>536207149>has no intention with its responses other than putting together words for a passing answerJust like you. You have no clue what you're talking about but yap endlessly to justify the prompt you've decided beforehand is the ground truth everything else must rest on.
