I always think of it as the left brings forth things that need to change or be addressed, and the right reacts in certain levels and a somewhat middle ground is met. Generally the extremes of either side are tossed away like a bad meme, ie trantender stuff and racial purity stuff. This is why classical liberalism tends to form in any stable society.
