Depends on the game. Competitive games with ranking might be good for you because you need to be high iq to reach the top ranks.
>>536286718It's better than watching TV, browsing social media or doing drugs.
>>536286718Games certainly have some value. They're just highly addictive and supplant real achievements with fake ones, sometimes literally.
>>536286806Non-competitive puzzle games are even better. And world builder games where you can be creative.
I didn't like it at the time but games that were harder because of arcades and to deter renting were better for development than the current games made for DSP.
>>536286718Better than being addicted to social media
Gambling is gay
>>536287042What's wrong with competitive puzzle games? Puyo puyo, tetris, puzzle fighters, etc?
There's a massive difference between someone that plays singleplayer strategic RPGs and simulators at home and someone that plays gachaslop everywhere they go on their phone.
>>536287042I disagree. Competition gives you the motivation to improve.
>What's wrong with competitive-Anything competitive just makes you more anxious and upset. Being good at low-stimulating singleplayer games shows how good you are at understanding applicable systems. Being able to aim and click on heads in 0.1 milliseconds shows you're good at stressing yourself for no reason, and reflex speed is overexaggerated in almost all physical sports as well.
Vidya is good for the brain and will help you stave off dementia in old age. It's science.
Because gaming rigs have increased like 10x in price the last few months.Perfect moment for a targeted ad and some stupid fucker to pay overprice for a rig.
>>536286718Good because it creates weak, impressionable and pacified men. Of course (((they))) would say it's good. Lots of troons of gaymers, anime fans etc.
>>536287805>Lots of troons of gaymers, anime fans These people play single player games or gacha slop. I am a top ranked player in a first person shooter and I only see normal guys in their 20s(usually college students) and streamers.
>>536286718I imagine something like EU4 or HOI4 would be great for kids in a lot of ways.
>>536286718Of course we are. We’ll inherit our parents houses and you’ll pay for our disability and medicare.
>>536287573Being able the constantly think in 4d where you, your team, and where the enemies are is what's beneficial. Mechanical skill has nothing to do with it.
>>536286718It’s distracting goyslop.
>>536286718Shit like gacha, FPSs or any highly repetitive games should be outlawed, every kid should be made to master at least one RTS game while in school, banning doomscrolling and social media for kids should be a high priority for any healthy society.
>>536289721FPS players have the highest iq. Just admit you have old man reflexes.
>>536287163When there is a competitive element games rely more on speed than thinking. In a good puzzle game like The Talos Principle you can spend an hour or more solving a single puzzle - can't do that in a competitive setting because that would become incredibly boring.
>>536289400The problem is that shooting people and winning are the entire point of these games. You cannot learn spatial reasoning if you can't survive. Teamwork is pointless if you can't kill. If you aren't beating your opponent, that should mean you fail at whatever this game wants to teach you.On the other hand Minecraft is a pointless game. It's designed around your own goals instead. You imagine you want a gigantic house and have to learn how to do it. You want to hoard thousands of materials so you need to schedule your efforts. Dying is not game over, the world persists but you're not behind, it's only punishing. And the world will your progress and success forever. This isn't about fps = bad.
>>536286718screen time is terrible for everyone.
>>536286718>does this mean neets are actually super smart? No, it means they are lazy and filthy casuals. The line to be drawn is very easily identifiable. It is multiplayer. If your kid is online getting help to shoot the baddies, or playing sportsball over and over, nothing is improved at all. Games with puzzle and challenge where solutions have to be figured out to proceed is what they should playing more of, it will actually be of use.
>>536290117*the world persists but you're behind, it's only punishing. And the world will have your progress and success forever.
>>536289885Every retard out there has played FPS games they're clearly just a waste of time, they just polish basic human motor and spacial skills like predicting where enemies will be(something humans are alreafy good at) they don't teach any real problem solving skills, really they're only good to funnel grunts into the military.
Watching TV programming for 4 hours a day gives you serious physical brain damage.Playing vidya specifically does not, it was used as comparison in the several studies which since 2024 have shown how watching TV programming causes brain damage. Using the internet also does NOT cause physical brain damage.
>>536290117Not to mention that in order to be good at FPS, your opponents must be better than you, or challenging in a way you haven't experienced yet. Almost no one enjoys playing against people better than them even competitively. Multiplayer is fundamentally about socializing. When you talk about teamwork, those are social skills and is independent of the game. Even with good social skills, playing is useless without exceptional aim.So the only tangible benefit you get from fast-paced competitive multiplayer are social skills.
>>536290170I play binding of Isaac. It has a ruthless progression system and it challenges reaction time and forward thinking strategy. It’s an excellent game.
