Once upon a time people got old and died; now they get old, get more old, get even more old, until nearly a third of their existence on this planet has been spent in a state of worsening detioration. To this list I would add people's cognitive decline; I've heard it said that old age is a second infancy, or something to that effect. I speak to the elderly all the time, and they have got like one functioning brain cell left. What a fucking nightmare.
