Am I crazy, or has everyone suddenly started referring to COVID as "the pandemic" for the past few months?
>>536380913I've been calling it retardemic from day 0. Will keep doing so.
>>536380913Because it was? A virus that spreads around the world at the same time is called a pandemic.
>>536380913they've been referring to it as that for years
>>536381050That's not what people picture when they hear "pandemic." Besides, using more letters/syllables to describe something less specific isn't how language normally evolves
>>536381116SARS CoV - 2, is the technical term for the RNA coronavirus that caused the COVID -19 pandemic. I guess if you wanted to get technical pandemic can be used in other context... a pandemic assembly for example. I guess it would be the covid - 19 pandemic. Pan meaning all, demic comes from demos, the people.
>>536380913Always has been?
>>536381050>le lolvid is a pandemicSo is the flu fucking retard lol
>>536381532The "flu" isn't a new virus... covid was.
>>536381105>>536381518It was only occasionally referred to as that in my experience. Very interesting that both posters ITT saying it's always been like this live in ground zero of globohomo
>>536381532Covid was a pandemic by definition. "Pandemic" doesn't mean "Plague of Justinian mortality levels". AIDS is a pandemic too and only 0.5% of the planet's population have died of AIDS in the last 50 years. (For the record, Covid killed 0.09% of the world population in 2 years; smoking kills 13% of the world population every year)
I remember when /pol/ called it "corona" until the western media started using the term pronounced "koh-vid".
