I always ignored those fags. I vividly recall "you'll never need more than 4gb of ram" and "you don't need 250gb ssd, you can run everything off 120gb" back in like 2009-2011ish

I did pretty well in my 2013 build. It lasted 10 years and still going strong my nephew is enjoying a 2060 and 16gb of ram for roblox and Minecraft and still able to play many stream games.

For my 2022 build I made sure to future proof as much as possible. But I did stay with a ddr4 motherboard. I thought u was good with 32gb. But the ai shit forced me to upgrade before price spikes. I am loving being at 64gb of ram. Absolutely no issues.

System specs are just a dick measuring contest for most of you fags. I built a DDR4 system earlier this year. It has 32gb but I choose slower RAM that would allow the mobo to support 64gb later. I'll probably never need it. The system it replaced was built in 2015 using 2012 parts and it was still running fine. It had 32gb but only because I found 16gb on eBay that was identical to the 16gb I already had. I never needed 32gb. The only reason I upgraded was to run W11 so I could run SOLIDWORKS for school.

all part of the plan. they want to make us reliant on ai out of convenience, instead of doing our own research or remembering passages from actual books. the internet got out of hand, they cant censor it so they try to establish alternatives that would eclipse the free internet if enough ppl use it. they tried turning the web into cable tv with a few curated channels, facebook, instagram etc. next step is only fake ai generated history & post-hoc falsification of sources.

Not going to last forever, and here's why.
AI is not profitable enough to use. Profitable to make the hardware for, yes, but everything else still runs net negative. The end customer is realizing this more and more. This leaves only cost-effective alternatives such as shittier local models as useful.
The data center boom will end in a bust unless the models can both become more efficient, and more powerful at the same time. And they ahve maybe a year to make that happen, and to justify costs.

Although I only put 32 gigs of RAM in. Kind of mad about that. I was considering going with 96GB since I fuck around with AI occasionally but I thought to myself "32 meets all my immediate needs... I can always buy more later"
>>
>>536394905

Imagine how bad things really are that they have to restart production from the discontinued last generation so the AI vampires can keep sucking on the DDR5 supply, but at least it will make some people happy to be able to afford building a new PC, even if it is not with cutting edge technology.

Here a fucking 8Gb DRR4 @3400Mhz used to cost barely 20 bucks in 2024, now it sits on somewhere around 80 dollars, it has QUADRUPLED in price and let's not even talk about DDR5 RAM.
>>
>>536397774
I don't use chatbots but it's always the same strategy. Give people something useful for free, let them get hooked on using it, then cut the quality in half and stuff it full of ads, then offer a "pro" version without ads, then eventually put ads into the "pro" version as well. It's a tale as old as the internet itself

The issue is that the Gen Z'ers who do want to get into PC gaming are getting cock-blocked at the door.
And if their money doesn't get through the door that kills it, eventually, for the Millennials and Xers who are already there because the industry is going to move away from DIY PC gaming (which we are already starting to see) if new money isn't coming in.
They can still get in via DIY + used hardware.

DDR4 memory is still insanely overpriced. i bought 32gb of dram a little over a year ago for an older PC for 50 bucks. that exact same kit is now 220.i dont think they'll produce in numbers high enough to make a difference, and even if they did its still shitty that technology is regressing because of soulless ai slop that floods the internet.
>>
>>536398299
>I really don't know what people use more than 16gb for.
Well real world example, I sometimes fuck around on VRChat, and let's say I'm chilling on VR Chat, but I'm also checking email, watching videos, etc, in the background RAM allocation pushes into the high 20s.
Systems are also strong enough now that you can do something like run the desktop version of vrchat in the background and you can use it as a vtuber avatar, it can actually animate your face and hands using webcam input. So if you want to be some tranime streamer that's the easiest way to accomplish that. 16 gigs of RAM is fine for running most games. But running 2 games at once... you're going to want more. Plus a lot of people like to run playback programs so that they can clip instant replays of interesting moments in their games like if they just had a lucky knife throw or corner banged someone real good etc.
These days my minimum recommendation will always be 32 gigs for those above reasons.
Because there's ways to go well beyond just having a glorified overpriced game console and it's when you get into power user territory that suddenly the minimum minimum recommendation is no longer enough.
The "good enough" PC gaming experience stops being "good enough" quite fast.

64GB is overkill for nearly everyone unless you're doing some super advanced shit with your computer. 99.9% of people aren't doing anything special w\ their computer.
Obviously if there's high demand, there will be increased production. This entire topic is retarded because people come at it from a perspective as though everyone is trying to build a new computer w\ ddr5. Obviously people will see this massive demand, and there will be additional manufacturing created. Not to mention by the time all this shit will theroretically happen, the existing stuff now will be getting older... in 3-4 years it will be refreshed...

Then people will be crying about trying to get ddr6 ram.

Even when I do vidya which I've got no time for, I fix or update mods I use because no one else will. Fixed an Anki thing last year because the owner abandoned it a couple years prior. Make tampermonkey scripts to fix or add features to sites I use sometimes. Experiment with new features in languages I use sometimes. I don't know, I do a lot of shit. Whatever my current interest or need is at the time. Making a comfyui node for wan 2.2 too. Probably forgetting to mention a lot of other things I'm doing but whatever
Why aren't you doing shit, anon?

I don't know about 10 years, but you should be good until 2030 or so.

I'm gardening, playing with my kids, honing my culinary skills, reading, going to the gym, playing pickleball, hiking, and I just joined a gun club to get into sporting clay shooting. I'll play a little bit of vidya or shitpost when I've got a free hour or so but it's pathetic to spend so much time on a computer you care about gen 4 vs gen 5 RAM and I certainly don't shed tears for gaymers having to cope with dropped frames while they shoot heckin bad guys

Reading this thread reminded me of Raspberry pi's so I looked them up. 4 gb Raspberry pi kit on amazon $135 chatjeetpt or whatever the google mechanical redditor swears it's totally not a scam.

lol look at this retard trying to prove to himself he's somehow better than the rest of us

>4 gb Raspberry pi kit
It's LPDDR4, so it basically only competes with low-end smartphones.

Yet it's still 5x the price it "should" be at. We're going back to DDR3 boys.

>HackerRank's global survey puts it bluntly - 29% of all code is now AI-generated, and 15% of devs say AI writes more than half their code.
And it's going to get a lot worse. Even today these stories are very common:
https://www.tomshardware.com/software/a-suspected-youtube-interface-bug-spikes-ram-usage-above-7-gigabytes-users-report-severe-lag-and-frozen-tabs-bug-might-be-trapping-browsers-in-an-endless-layout-loop
>A suspected YouTube interface bug spikes RAM usage above 7 gigabytes, users report severe lag and frozen tabs — bug might be trapping browsers in an endless layout loop
7 GB gone, just like that
so the functionality gets worse, while they waste more resources

Microsoft already recommends 32 GB to normalfags. You know what that means, right? Every dev will look at these statistic and think
>great, my shitty program can waste all of it
It's the same kind of mentality that makes jeets pollute the world with garbage (see webm)
>saar is not a problem, the earth is very very big, hinduism says earth is infinite, i can throw garbage everywhere saar

The average user won't even notice the bandwidth difference between DDR4 and DDR5. The real problem is that DDR4 is incompatible with AM5/LGA1851 socket motherboards, so automatically you're limited to CPUs from 4+ years ago.
>>
>>536402367
Yep, they hire pajeets to do all the coding. The pajeets not only suck but they also don't care because muh fast cpu and memory. So now we're in a downward spiral of everything getting shitty.

m8 all code is written by AI now.
All AI is trained on jeet programming examples.

This. My draw rate is fine. I can't do advanced graphic design but thats mostly my shitty 14 year old 1070 TI ROG Strix. Still works fine and overclocking rarely makes it crash unless the card is hot, and thats only if AC don't work. But no ray tracing, reflections and shadows are murder and if I have too many graphics mods installed it won't be able to draw in some complex NPCs. I am just going to wait. I missed all the windows I wanted and I had to upgrade my CPU like 3 fucking times in 5 years thanks to Microsoft.
>>
>>536404704
They're just re-releases really. They are still outperformed by AM5 CPUs from 3-4 years ago.

Some of them are still pretty good CPUs, but if DDR5 was not so expensive, nobody would be recommending them at this point.
>>
>>536399924
Dude windows sucks what the fuck man its all bloatware now. It doesn't even do what I want for free now. I am going to axe Windows for good.

Right?

>The average user won't even notice the bandwidth difference between DDR4 and DDR5.
You have to cherrypick the fastest DDR4 and the slowest DDR5 for that to be the case.

I ignored them and bought the 64, I even have backup pair. I also purchased several nvme drives for $100 just to have them even though I didn't have an immediate use for them. They're now like $640 lol

Hoarders always win in the long run.
