I have this. For real. I've been tested for it. What annoys me is that it's become like autism. Where women see that they can get some extra attention and preferential treatment if they just lie and say they have autism.Autism has become more wishy washy in the definition. I will sometimes see things like a flash on my vision if there is some unexpected loud noise, but I don't get the kind that is really seeing colours when music is playing.To catch fakers for this, something like a piano notes are played. They're asked which color do they "see" / associate. Let's say they said blue. Then the tester might try different notes, different keys and so on. Noting down any differences. The experiment is also repeated a few times, so if A minor is "blue" then the tester might return to it again to see if the same result happens. The final test then, is to play some short melodies and record the colours. If the process is automatic like they claim, they will be remarkably consistent, because they are just recording the patterns on their vision. Fakes? They have to remember the associations and even for very simple sequences, they take too long and end up guessing.
