They wanted 'jokes' that reinforced and validated their rage so they could be mad as a group. But they didn't want to laugh. It seems like what happened is that the right lost a very important feature for comedy: the ability to laugh at yourself. Look at something like The Daily Show, they would constantly poke fun at their own side. Making fun of Biden for being old, or the democrats for fumbling the ball, etc etc. The left can make fun of the right AND the left, often in the same breath.The right doesn't make fun of itself anymore. Thats not allowed, they see that as admitting defeat or disloyalty. Can you imagine a rightwing standup comic making fun of Trump? They would get eaten alive. For the right, comedy has become purely a vehicle for attack and so they can never aim it at themselves.
