I've studied American politics of the 1990s and Americans back then had a prequel of what right wing beliefs look like now (Pat Buchanan) and he was seen as a crazy guy. This meme would work better if it was 1965 or even 1925. Right wing beliefs are the furthest right they've been in at least a century, the prosperity of the post war era really made people less extreme overall.
