I think this cames more from the 1848 revolution of republicans and students which fits the nowerday German flag black-red-gold (from bad time with blood to golden times) I think the prussians adopted it. 1848 was more the vipe of "we are sick of all the small kingdoms and royals anyway. we want a republic" Blood and iron vipe is from Bismarck a total rolalyst "we are the biggest Kingdom in Germany and the Prussian King will be Kaiser over all of Germany". The doctrine was as many soil as a state to be independed of imports via sea that can be interrupted by British Navy. Iron is their tools of war. In other words, what Clausewitz meant by "war is politics using other tools." The Nazi slogan's "blood" is about race. But "soil" is not "Lebensraum" (ie- expansionism). Instead, it has to do with self-sufficiency due to famines. "Soil" as in farming the land, control of your own ability to transport logistics, etc?
