I've become fascinated by 9/11 in the last couple years. I was born in 91 and remember the attacks vividly, and everyone was aware something historically significant was taking place. People thought it would be the beginning of a new era of warfare called "The War on Terror" or a clash of civilizations that could lead toward something like another Cold War. There was absolutely zero understanding that 9/11 was in fact the end of America. Still very few people realize this but it's becoming harder to miss. So looking back at footage and interviews, it's not like "Oh man the poor people on United 93 have no idea what's about to happen..." it's more like "Oh man, nobody realizes the whole fucking country is collapsing." It's very weird how the whole Islamic fundamentalist jihadi thing ended up being a ghost in the closet while we have been haunted by something far more powerful and sinister all the while.
