Basically, as long as you aren't part of a union or in a government job you can be fired for pretty much any reason, at any time, without any formal notice whatsoever. The only thing they can't do is fire you for being black, a woman, etc. But it is 100% legal for your boss to fire you because he doesn't like the color of your tie or weren't wearing enough pieces of flair.
