It's similar in other research fields. Anti-aging research recently had a mega scandal that revealed that basically every major player in the world was publishing completely fraudulent research. Nobody noticed for 10 years and every new paper was more made up fraud based on previously published fraud, nobody cared when it was finally revealed, nobody cares now, no research grants were redirected, nothing changed. It was just completely ignored.
