Once upon a time 2 queens were fighting each other. One was queen Elisabeth of England and the other queen Mary Stuard of Scotland. They threw their armies of drafted common men at each other, and when they run out of men they sent boys to battle. The lives of "low born" males were probably worth less than the lives of the dogs in their castles, in their view.
