Upstate need to secede from NYC and become a low tax, high freedom haven.
Upstate NY is poverty-stricken and declining now but they used to be full of vibrant industrial hubs. The reason is their dependence on NYC. Upstate gets a lot of tax moneys from NYC, but it's a costly dependence that requires Upstate to adopt NYC's high taxes and to accept all the poor, unemployable benefits leeches NYC exports upstate.

>detach self from one of the wealthiest cities on earth
>become Kentucky poor inside of 5 years
why?

NYC should be made into a special administrative district, an economic zone ran like the City of London, by a corporate and financial conglomeration. Watch the streets clean up in a week, Watch all the useless eaters get kicked outside, watch the GDP quintuple

yes I unironically agree that we need two more D senators.

Nigga, upstate is poor because it's attached to NYC. NYC forces a high tax, high benefits socialism that makes it impossible for upstate to develop any industry or business. They also export the poorest, worst elements of the city to become permanent section 8 welfare leeches.

NYS won't be D, and places like Buffalo and Albany will slowly become less and less blue because the welfare takers will go back to NYC.

I was curious so I got this

If you define “Upstate New York” the way many political scientists do—everything outside NYC, Long Island, Westchester, and Rockland Counties—then it is much more competitive than most people realize. It is not deep-red Appalachia, but it is also not the solid blue image many people associate with New York.

Using that standard definition, presidential voting looked like this:

Year Democrat Republican Margin
2016 45.2% 47.7% R+2.5
2020 50.8% 47.2% D+3.6
2024 49.0% 50.0% R+1.0

That tells a pretty clear story:

* 2016: Trump narrowly carries Upstate.
* 2020: Biden narrowly flips it.
* 2024: Trump narrowly wins it again.
* Overall: Upstate behaves more like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, or Michigan than like Alabama or Massachusetts.

One interesting wrinkle: by 2024, if you excluded only the five boroughs of NYC and kept the suburbs, Donald Trump actually narrowly won the remainder of New York State, something no Republican had accomplished since 1988.

very intellasting, thanks anon.

And when your state income tax jumps, will that help you thrive?
