Biggest scam in history. This game was supposed to be released 14 years ago. It has still not been released after collecting over 1 billion dollars from its fans
Whoa this still exists?I actually contributed to development for a while, but quit when I realised the project leadership is retarded.
>>536637075Yes. There is a huge reddit of it and super active. They relentlessly defend it if you call it a scam as they are so heavily invested at this point https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/
>>536637132The sunk cost fallacy thing has been with the game since 2014 at least, lolz.It definitely isn't strictly a scam, in that a lot of material was created, but I doubted whether it would ever be close to feature complete. The mismanagement and idiocy on the dev side is dramatic.Pretty much haven't even thought back on it in a decade.
>>536637075>this still exists?I remember every youtuber cancelling this game over a decade ago, apparently lot of newfags didnt get the memo
>>536637264It's not even close to being done. They just feed them some update sometimes then keep collecting more money
>>536637338I've also worked with Infinity: The Quest for Earth, which basically is the same shit, but at least that project actually died.
>>536636953imagine how many boomers put all their money in scam citizen, leaving their kids with nothing.
>>536637132I've heard that they ban you if you fail to complete a purity test. You have to walk around in a circle while proven players chant, and if your model clips out and falls into space it means you didn't have enough faith.
>>536637452I've seen my fair share of games in development hell, so I'd say that if the proposed release date is postponed by more than 3 or 4 years chances it will actually see a release as promised is close to zero, and I think Star Citizen was originally announced for 2014, so yeah..After such a long time period all the assets would have needed not one but two or three overhauls to keep pace with contemporary graphics.
>>536636953I member when everyone was hyped by this. I was hyped by starbase and dual universe, at least I got something to experience with starbase even if it was too ambitious due to people being low IQ in general.
>>536637075you're retarded for supporting early access scams
>>536637264It's so dumb why doesnt Chris's just makes product and release it. I dont understand scammers they get the funding why not just hire the right people and make product and release it and make even more money. I don't understand why people dont call out Chris on things like having his model actress wife as ceo. That there alone is a red flag.
>>536637739I was young and naive, but it's not like I actually paid them. I have mainly worked on the creation of assets.
>>536637866They don't ever need to finish the game as paypigs keep paying thousands of dollars for more ships over and over
>>536637866It follows in the tradition of Duke Nukem Forever in that they were overly ambitious and wasteful with funds, while not really caring about deadlines. They did set deadlines, but purely in unhealthy ways, unrealistic time spans that put too much pressure on devs and were impossible to keep. And over time feature creep and the need to overhaul things (can't keep assets created 10 years ago, generally speaking) means even more effort is wasted without getting any closer to a finished product, even in Open Access terms. It's very rare for such projects to redeem themselves. I've only seen that once or twice. There's also the question how they'll actually continue and make a profit after release, as the market tends to change.
>>536637948That's no excuse theres so many games right now that are not finished and the rest is released as dlc look at civ games. It's not right and have not played star citizen but why dont they do what cover did make the game release it the release bits or addons.
>>536636953>>536637075>>536637132it scam in sense shits incompelte as fuck and bugged to hell but it still a semblence of a game. 3 systems and some moons and planets, station and missions
>>536637948It may actually be counter-productive to finish it.>reality and disappointment set in>need an actual business model>muh Project Entropia xdd>subscribers? lmao>is there even a wider market these days besides the people already committed? So it may legit be safer to keep it as le private sicrit club echo chamber instead of exposing yourself to real market forces.
>>536638469this. buy the rumor, sell the news
>>536636953>Money Laundering: The Game
>>536638469Exactly
>>536638571By some metrics it's legit impressive they could maintain this scheme for as long as they did. Might as well play that game to the end.>keep releasing savoury screenshots and graphs and trailers foreverAfter all those need not have any real connection to the true state of the software.Turn it into a metagame about making early access games, instead of an actual game.
Post YFW you never backed Scam Citizen
>>536636953wrong board, nerd>>536637132this should result in a ban. go back
This guy has spent $20,000 USD on ships
>>536639072what is the point of this game? the objective?
>>536639249https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Citizen
>>536639072>OnlyWhores becoming millionaires from brownbux>orbiters wasting housingbux on non-existent game content>Shabbos cronies tearing out the West's kitchen sinks>untold trillions in debt>no one can make anything any more>no one mates>biblical floods of turdies into White world>billionaires building mansion bunkers in New Zealand>aylums>pole shifts>less than an inch of top soil left...Yeah... I'm thinking we're about at that page in the kike fables right before Lot's wife was turned into salt...
why wouldn't you just play X4?
This is unfair, the game was "done" and they held a poll on how should they procceed, most people voted for continued development. Squadron 42 is a finished product. They are scummy with the monetization, but 60(or less) will get you into the game.
>>536639412The game is nowhere near done
>>536639249The point of the game is that it's your second job you pay for the privilege of having with your first job.
>>536637665>After such a long time period all the assets would have needed not one but two or three overhauls to keep pace with contemporary graphics. Not remotely true. Video game graphics have stagnated in recent years. Here, take a look at an ultra realistic graphics mod for Star Wars Battlefront. This game and mod came out in 2015:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGyaR2sSBkA
>>536636953KekThis scams still going? So much coke.
google Star Citizen "Odin" P2W scandal.
>>536636953If you're dumb enough to fall for this you deserve it.
>>536639249There is no fucking game bahaga (kind of)
>>536639386This. X4 with dlcs is just massive.
>>536639555Recent years? They were stagnating in fucking 2005, or even earlier.>graphics hardware power became an excuse for shit inefficient programming and unoptimized assetsThe reason is simply that most devs suck absolute ass, and have done so for decades.Doesn't change that you'll need to overhaul the assets eventually, just like there are remasters or 4k texture packs or graphics revamps in literally every game with enduring popularity.Doesn't necessarily mean you have to start from scratch, but bake, export, modify, and so on, not least because the engine will also evolve or be changed entirely.
