Just how bad were the years between the Soviet Union collapsing and the rise of Putin? I watched pic related last night and it looked like a country on the verge of cracking up

>Just how bad were the years between the Soviet Union collapsing and the rise of Putin? I watched pic related last night and it looked like a country on the verge of cracking up
It was.
And most of the indications point toward the west heading in that exact direction.
90s Russia was not far from 20s Germany btw.

So what do we have?
We have a boomer class and entrenched elites who already have called dibs on all natural resources and made land unaffordable for the normal population (similar to the oligarchs).
All jobs are shipped abroad.
The states are dysfunctional.
Only things that actually work are industries and energy generation built before the boomers started working.
All we have is the GDP per capita which means we can call dibs on third world resources, but this head start is slipping.

As soon as our GDP per capita dips or the government debts become unmanageable, we will have 90s Russia in the west.

Honestly, from the little I know about 90s Russia, it's surprising to me that people will point to Brazil or a vague "Balkanization" as the future of America, and not, as you said, boomer hoarding of wealth like the oligarchs in Russia. And then just total dysfunction until a strongman takes over.

Wanted to ask, in general, is the sequel worth watching? I looked it up and it's basically GTA 4: the movie. Sounds compelling.
>>
>>536701988
The sequel is more action oriented and trying to be a Jason Statham/Steven Seagal type of thing,I prefer the first one

The Soviet Union actually had way more industry then we do not and didn't rely nearly as much of money printing and cheap imports. It's going to be even worse for us.

My mom worked in a literal mafia den as a cook (in Moscow) and it was the safest and best paying job around. I remember spending some time there (I was around 8) doing barbecue with the thugs and enjoying the swimming pool.
They were super protective and respectful of her and the single man who tried to grope her just dissappeared forever the next day.
In contrast, any normal job paid pennies and was infinitely more dangerous.
It was a total shithole but also felt like a grimdark adventure.

I only watched it as a kid.
So can't remember.
I remember that Brigada (Бpигaдa) was popular, and it is great if you want to learn russian.

>And then just total dysfunction until a strongman takes over.
I do recommend reading about Weimar Germany as well, or even the time before the French revolution.
>>536702043
>The Soviet Union actually had way more industry then we do not and didn't rely nearly as much of money printing and cheap imports. It's going to be even worse for us.
True.
With all those imported niggers on top of the systemic problems...
It's bad enough with the fertility rates and working <35 yo not affording places to live near the jobs, and the deindustrialization.
But now we need to import even more mouths to feed because boomers thought replacing the nations young with an imported mass was better than actually producing offspring.

It's genius, and it will all collapse hard once it falls.
But just like a balloon, it grows to its largest and hardest just before it pops.

The movie is very accurate, and the situation was likely much worse if you account for sexual depravities that involved minors and trafficking - which the movie is not showing because it has a different focus.

Also, a lot of what you see in the movie applies for the entire ex-communist block.

Most of us fled as soon as we could because there were no prospects of any future there.
>mom managed to save enough to buy an apartment

It was a big wake up call to stop struggling and move elsewhere.

Russia has always been a land of barely civilized barbarians who need some flavor of strongman to keep them in line. And even with a communist dictator or oligarch at the reins they are only ever hanging on to power so long as they allow the right people to engage in unchecked corruption.

The only thing the commies ever did right was oppressing and monitoring the average citizen so completely they it forced them to more or less behave themselves or risk getting executed by the KGB.

Russians are a mongol horde perpetually searching for a Great khan to lead them.

The movie is great. Watch a 2nd one as well.
It's a MOVIE, not reality.

When Gorbachev sold Soviet Union to western oligarchs, USA and Club of Rome,
it was bad first.
All economic connections that existed between 15 republics were broken.
Basically all new economic ties had to be recreated, took 10 years.
>>
>>536712720
The west was planning to break Russia apart.
Putin didn't allow the country to break apart.
>>
>>536704390
I liked it alot. The best TV shows ever, absolute freedom and anarchy. If you transfer this into modern times, just imagine that all boomers just disappeared, became broke and irrelevant. All the traditions and conservatives gone. But of course economy, savings and salary disappear as well. That is how it was.

I don’t think one person can so anything. Putin, Hitler or whoever. They just a scapegoats, an image of what is happening in the society. I don’t believe anyone can control it. The talent of politicians is just to take credit for nice things and to wiggle out of responsibility for bad things. But they are not in control, they just ride the train.

It's kind of crazy how the Soviet Union went from one of the poorest countries on earth, to an industrial and technological superpower, and then just disappeared within the space of 75 years. Old Soviet murals you see in travelogs online are basically the modern equivalents of a lost civilisation.

Putin's gangster petrostate doesn't really hold a candle to it, so cannot be regarded as a successor to the USSR.

The basis of Putin's popularity is him choosing to rescue Russia from the 90s when he could've just fled and made money overseas. Let that sink in.
>>
>>536714292
when you think about it, buthurtbelt countries are in EU for 30 years already, and what did they achieve? To have the same progress they had in USSR they will need like 300 years now. But USSR had the society united by the idea, bright future, pioneers and so on. Now what are the ideas? Sustainability? Which means literally how to die slowly.

Poland continuously had above-replacement birthrates under Communist rule, for it's entire existence. Now Poland is demographically disappearing. Liberal capitalism succeeded where Nazism and Communism failed: to erase the Polish state.

It also stands to reason that all of Europe would be 99% White if they were under Communist rule right now. The Warsaw Pact were not too hot on foreign immigration ....
