Why don't we have blowouts like this anymore? It looks like they were relatively common in the past but my whole life has been nothing but 50/50 elections decided by a handful of swing states.

Shutdown the federal insane asylums? Democrats had been demanding that for decades. Even back when he was governor and was the first to approve no-fault divorce, it was something the left wanted. Over on the international affairs side of things, Democrats did hate his opposition to communism, so with Mondale we would still get browns, crazy people roaming the streets, but also pandering to commies. Not sure which of the candidates back then would have been better but surely there was someone better than those two.
