Obviously there are the directly economic arguments, and those are largely correct, but it's also a reduction and way to avoid or break down the discussion, rather than seriously discuss it. It seems to me that the economic issues - housing, child care, etc, are just part of a broader tendency and problem of modernity itself, where both the economic wellbeing and independence, as well as cultural and social, even personal, identity-related aspects of the human condition are progressively being eroded and degraded, creating a deracinated, alienated civilization and an increasingly abstract and ultimately unproductive speculative economy. This goes beyond liberal and conservative, capitalist or Marxist, but rather reflects the broad spirit, or lack thereof of the age. Fundamentally there's no cure, and the discourse is poisoned by ideological and psychological factors that render it impossible to actually discuss it seriously or act and create something new, just as responses to my reply will just be nonsense, and my reply itself is largely useless nonsense and not particularly coherent, for which I apologize.
