Sending hundreds of applications, getting to final interviews and doing long tasks that take hours then getting a rejection, doing the whole process again with another company for the same results. Many of the jobs you are interviewing for don't actually have open roles, they need to keep them up so that HR keeps their job and investors are happy

I remember my Dad losing his programming job during the 2008 pullback. He got 6 month severance + 2 months vacation earned. He took a month off, then spent the next 7 months full time searching/applying/interviewing for a position that paid maybe 120k a year in today money. To get 6 figures of pay you have to endure a fucking gauntlet.
